  1. Any metric you want puts Hosmer as just an awful signing and current player. Since you compared to Abreu (Hosmer is 3 years younger than Jose) so I will compare Hosmer to Abreu at the same age in wRC+. With the Padres (age 28-31): wRC+ 95 91 127 96 One above average year (and he only played 38 games). Abreu with the White Sox (age 28-31): wRC+ 131 121 139 114 And that doesn't even include the 60 game MVP season for Abreu of wRC+ of 166. Hosmer is bad and there isn't a metric that says otherwise.
  2. This team definitely has that FEEL of being special. What a fun season.
  3. Sano is a pretty bad 1B. That wasn't even a bad throw.
  4. Is Lopez a for sure? I don't see his name in the transactions log.
  5. Yeah I was surprised too. Seems like a waste.
  6. Doesn’t surprise me at all he is a scumbag off the field or he didn’t want to get the vaccine.
  7. I definitely wouldn't bury Kelenic. Vlad Jr. underwhelmed for 1.5 years and then it just clicked this year to an absolute monster beginning of the season. Madrigal has improved defensively and on the basepaths but he definitely is not as fast as I thought he was advertised to be. I also don't see how he was a SS at one point in college...he is arm is barely passable at 2B. All that being said he has definitely turned it around on defense and a smarter baserunner. I like the adjustment he made at the plate...it appears to allow him to have a little more power and be less slappy (more line drives). If he continues to make these adjustments and get better I think he could be a very valuable piece to a winning team because he can do something (extreme contact) that a lot of guys in MLB struggle with and offers a different dimension to score in other ways besides home runs. When Sox get Eloy/Robert back for more home runs having guys like Madrigal and TA7 can make them a more consistent offense and not rely on just home runs or just small ball...they can do both. I think that is important in tight, close games.
  8. I personally love Holmes...what don't you like? I think he is the most talented guy the Score has. Bernstein is meh and Parkins is more tolerable now that Spiegel is back teamed up with him.
  9. It will be interesting how it pans out with Giolito, Lynn & Rodon needing contracts.
  10. Definitely. I think they also need a bullpen piece or 2, even if it is just to get through the regular season. As long as their bodies allow them to, I believe both Eloy and Robert have good chances of rejoining this season, which would be a HUGE boost to this team both statistically and clubhouse morale. I feel like the team could just take off in August and go on an extended run if those 2 can come back with their talent and infectious personalities.
  11. I agree with this 100%. It doesn’t work with everyone but to some people gestures like this mean a lot. It doesn’t even necessarily mean he has to have an ulterior motive. From everything you hear about JR when you are actually one of his employees he is an extremely nice, generous and loyal guy....sometimes to a fault. He is an old school businessman that probably thinks if you make it a family like atmosphere people won’t want to leave. It has worked with guys like Abreu...he pretty much said in the off-season he wasn’t going anywhere no matter what the Sox said. Outside we think JR is a cheap owner looking to make money, but inside it is probably a different feeling.....maybe with an exception of how players feel about LaRussa.
  12. Whether Yermin missed a take sign or not is not the main issue as far as I see it. To me the problem is you handle these situations IN HOUSE. No reason to say anything about it and no reason whatsoever to call your player “clueless.” Secondly, no reason whatsoever to not back your player up when someone throws behind him. Your job is to have YOUR players backs not worry about some stupid “unwritten rules” and take signs. It’s ridiculous. Lastly, no reason to talk about Lance Lynn’s comments the way he did either. “He has a locker and I have an office.” That’s just ignorant BS. This ass clown needs his walking papers. Completely unnecessary and hopefully it doesn’t backfire and they decide to win in spite of his on the field and off the field errors. I hope TA7 rallies the troops.
  13. Sox would go 2 max. Probably why it didn’t happen.
  14. Is that the MLB way Tony? Dropping the bat on a homer? What a putz.
  15. Oh wait...you meant AFTER A's these teams. LOL. My bad.
  16. Thats a great call. Not necessarily more talented (the A's did have Giambi, Chavez, Tejada, Dye, Damon, Hudson, Mulder, Zito). Hopefully the main difference will be we have some of our guys locked up already - and hopefully can sign a few more. Interestingly enough, Menechino was on some of those A's teams in the early 2000s.
  17. I completely agree with this. Their OBP skills and situational hitting has been pretty impressive considering they only have had 2/3 of their lineup for the most part. Once completely healthy, the Sox lineup can beat you any way imaginable.
  18. No, but he looks woozy. He probably got some whiplash and the wind knocked out of him.
  19. Yeah I wouldn't worry too much about body language, but he does get into his head too much, ala Konerko. I feel like when guys like that go bad it goes real bad. It seems like a mechanical issue right now, which hopefully can be corrected...Katz is the right guy to help.
