The idea that daring to question a move means you don't deserve the team is a political press conference level of absurdity for a franchise with the history the Sox have.

I mean it's something is such a rare occurance, I am not sure why it is such a big deal. Honestly I would be shocked if capacity isn't smaller based on the history of this franchise and the size of the area they are shoehorning a stadium into, plus recent trends in ballpark capacity. At least 95% of the time, Sox fans can walk up to the gate and buy a ticket pretty much anywhere they want for list price.

And without demand, they aren't going to spend tens of millions of dollars to add more seats to a park after their last stadium they cut 8000 seats out of their last stadium for lack of demand.

This is what I was talking about when I said railroad have almost absolute power to do whatever they hell they want. They wrote these laws.

They have already cut the capacity from the mid 40s back when the park opened, and you had to go back six seasons to find a game it made a difference in. Of the things to worry about, this is way down my list.

They drew 40,288 and 40,170. That's what we are talking about here? Its been almost a generation since the Sox even averaged 25k a season.

The "intent" was obvious. I almost wonder if the successes this season kind of went to their head, beacuse even when you look at those successes, they took years to get Vargas right, for example. Even a Tristan Peters, who had a full spring training, took until May to start putting up numbers. Again, I think if you were going into the winter with spring training ahead of you, and pay winter prices to bring these guys in, you get more of a benefit of the doubt. But thinking you could fix these guys in the middle of a playoff race seems pretty risky, and not how we have seen these things work out in the last few years. But of course they didn't ask about that distinction. I think the Sox have been extremely lucky at how bad everyone else around them has been, as those moves could have easily cost them the playoffs if teams like Detroit and Cleveland had gotten hot. It's a helluva gamble to make it August.

An infrastructure plan is sooooooo much easier to sell than one giving 9 to 10 figures to a billionaire.

This park's capacity is already below 40k. I think the number is like 38.6k IIRC.

I don't know the Bridgeport White Sox of the South Loop has a nice ring to it.

I have done to the comparison to other franchises in other posts, but the 2nd team in LA just sold for over double what the White Sox are being sold for. Look at the price paid for San Diego too. If you do this right, the Sox could be a $5 billion franchise in no time at all.

Ticket prices will go up 10% this off season, I would bet.

It also completely missed the point. Ishbia is invested HERE, and is doing big time work to make sure the Sox have an ideal home. Jerry lives in Arizona, and already almost moved the team once, settling for the cheapest possible stadium he could get. The dude owning a nine figure house here just tells me the odds of his leaving are way less than someone who isn't invested here. Hell if he was looking to go cheap for a quick buck, he could have taken the discount on Minnesota because of their debt, and looked to move them. But he didn't. Dude is undergoing a crazy Rube Goldberg of work with different federal and private agencies to get the Sox an idealistic long term home that will actually benefit the franchise going forward. If that is evil behavior, well horns up for me.

Low cost is what happens where there is no demand. While it is nice for the pocketbook, it's what leads to cheap ownership in the long run.

Yeah, if you are coming from the north, west, southwest or on the train with the electric line this is WAY better. Th8s location improves access for literally millions of people in the Chicago metro area. It's a 10 minute extra drive for traditional driving from the direct south side, or a couple of extra train stops.

I find it absolutely hilarious that you are scared of the south loop. Somehow more scared than Bridgeport.

If this is what happens when it is "all about Ishbia", put me at the top of the list. The Sox have a long history of cash poor, real estate rich owners who have done everything they could to NOT invest in this franchise. By being willing to invest his own capital, and not needing to depend on silent partners and welfare queening himself in front of the Illinois and Florida legislatures, Ishbia is already ahead of what the Sox have been over the last 5 decades, including when Jerry held Illinois hostage and convinced Florida to pay for a stadium too. Besides the literally hundreds of games I have attended at both Sox Parks locations at 35th and Shields, I have been lucky enough to attend games in about a dozen different cities, close to 20 different parks, including literally every single existing stadium within a six hour drive of Chicago. I think I have a pretty solid handle on what makes a pretty good park in MLB. Hell I can also sit here and name Chicago neighborhoods, who cares? What a pointless circle jerk to miss the point. The point is to actually grown the fan base beyond the die hards. If the Sox want to be a real 21st century franchise, they need a much bigger bandwagon. Look no further than 8 miles north to see what thisfranchise could look like if it didn't just settle for being a neighborhood team. Don't be scared of progress.

Honestly it opens up so much more chance of capturing the casual fans who have been pretty much ceded to the team on the Northside for decades now. If you can capture some of that crowd that is downtown for other things, and it becomes a 2 stop train ride, or even a 15-30 minute walk depending on where you are, maybe you get a following of people who "just want to go to a game" versus Sox fans who were going to game no matter where the park is. It is incredibly clear that this has never happened in Bridgeport, and there wasn't the energy to really give that a go, no matter who or what was at fault for that. In terms of the future of the franchise, if this happens in the basic form that we are seeing in front of us (The railyards spot, the retro-ish stadium, correcting the sins of New Comiskey, capturing the casual fan, a ton more transpo options for both the local and out of town crowd, etc) this could literally the best thing to happen to the franchise long term in forever. Obviously this could all fall apart or be fucked up, but I haven't been this excited for the franchise in forever.
