Of all fan bases to act like you will NOT see meltdown, the Yankees are the craziest one of all, maybe in all of professional American sports. It might also come as a surprise to you that they also have an ownership group who is willing to spend on their roster. Crazy, I know, but it is a true story. Wait until you find out that the biggest contract in Sox history would rank somewhere around the 20th biggest in Yankees history, but I will save that for another day. I am sure your pearls will be getting a big enough work out.

If you know anything about transportation and rails, Chicago is a MASSIVE bottleneck in national train traffic because the infrastructure hasn't been updated in like a century in some cases. Problematically, there is more than offense to a baseball team, and the amount of time their window is open. Ryan Fuller is the simplistic retort. The Orioles squandered that time their window was open by not making decisive moves to keep it open. If the Sox don't do a lot of work around their pitching staff (sound familiar so far?) and so far their pitching development has been a massive failure on the front end. All of the teams top pitching prospects have failed at being to stick as a starter so far. Obviously some of these guys will go back and try again, but Taylor seems to be done as a starter, and the whisper campaign around Hagen has already started. Shane Smith completely bombed out this year, Schultz and McDougal both didn't contribute anything to the rotation. The Sox need a LOT of work on the starting pitching if they want to be back here next year.

No. I am not trying to create unrealistic expectations for no good reasons when guys with high K rates very often have prolonged struggles at the major league level. It will happen. Yes, it would be nice to know that the Montgomery problems were explained by injury, but also that would be another year ruined by this injury which also doesn't bode well going forward for expectations for his future health.

Trust me, I realize EXACTLY how low our payroll was last year, only coming in ahead of Miami because we got an absolute late deal done after the Murakami market collapsed and Getz begging for the extra few dollars is the only reason we didn't come in last in payroll in all of MLB. The first part ignores that they took steps to minimize how much they took on at the deadline and going forward, and it wasn't even THAT much once they forced out a contract to balance out the deal. The second part again goes to the Sox being NOT willing to spend, and doesn't exactly help the case that they have a ton of money to spend. Most owners won't keep bad players on a roster, and are willing spend over a bad deal as a cost of doing business.
