  1. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 09:23 AM) I'm not very good at the "magic number" thing...but can it inflate? Can as of the end of this weekend the magic number be at 30? It cannot. Because you add up the leading teams wins and the trailing teams losses, it can only stay put at worst.
  2. What the heck are we doing???? I just realized this is Tex's birthday thread and there is hardly any green Tex we all love you and this place would fall apart without you. We hope you get your wish and Tom Delay becomes President of the World

  4. I saw on CNBC where they had to stop moving people from the Superdome because people were shooting at the helicopters. How messed up is that???
  5. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 08:59 AM) What is the "rev" in front of Pat Roberston's name worth? About as much as the equity I have in my house We are at -$13.87 with yesterday's interest added in
  6. WHITE SOX f*** YA!!!
  7. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 06:08 AM) Do you mean the Rev. Jesse Jackson? QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 10:52 AM) good point. Ask me what that "rev." in front of Pat Robertson's name is worth.

  9. QUOTE(S720 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 10:37 PM) For you to blame KW is just unbelievably STUPID on your part. Who do you think put together the team as it currently is? If you can't be thankful or grateful enough, get the hell out of this bandwagon AND STAY OFF! BTW this is exactly what we are talking about in the personal attacks department, and it is being taken care of.
  10. QUOTE(LauraJ14 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 08:17 AM) Wow are you a Cub fan in disguise? Nope, a formerly, now re-banned poster.
  11. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 07:19 PM) Welcome aboard. Let me warn you immediately--you're not going to make friends easily with this post. Williams will (I'm positive) hold blame for any scenario regarding this team which doesn't involve, at the least, an ALCS appearance. Best record in baseball at midseason, Williams failed to upgrade our offense. Excuses ranged from "Two to Tango" Philosophy (overzelous sellers asking too much) to "Lack of Moves" philosophy (no one else did anything!). Both are wrong and shouldn't apply to a team which, if the correct move was made, put itself in a tremendous opportunity to build on it's success and upgrade a suspect offense. Point which irritates regarding Williams is he's been more than willing to hand out prospects for midseason trades in the past when our team was 7 games out of first. But when we're 15 games up on the second place team and almost guaranteed a playoff roster he does absolutely s***. Give up prospects if necessary; offer to pay the remainder of a salary--future success isn't guaranteed with any team. This may be our window to contend for a World Series. Tigers and Indians can no longer be expected to lay down for us every year. Williams should concern himself with winning now--because we may not be in a position like we are now for another 5 years. He certaintly won't be around to see if his team collapses or falls flat in the first round. Just curious are you telling me that you would have been willing to give up something like Contreras, Marte, McCarthy and a prospect to get a bat? Because that is what the asking prices were for these kind of players. The deals weren't just prospects, go back and read what Kenny said at the deadline, they were asking for guys like Buehrle, Garland, and Garcia, were you willing to trade those guys to get a bat? It wasn't just "prospects" that were being asked for. Like I said, go back and read what GMs said at the break, and the names that were being floated. It wasn't as easy as sending Brian Anderson to get someone like it has been in years past. We would have had to put multiple holes in the starting line ups, in order to do what you are saying.
  12. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 12:20 PM) I heard the +3 are Soxtalk staff there to discuss Jason's future. It all depends on if the check clears... just keep an eye on the Soxtalk paypal account.
  13. See you all don't see it. This is God's way of saying that Pat Robertson was right and we should have taken out Hugo Chavez...
  14. Did anyone see the recent live footage of the natural gas fire that was raging on top of the flood waters? I saw it on CNBC, but I am sure other networks picked it up. You could see the nat gas bubbling through the flood waters, while the fire on top burned away. It was surreal.
  15. Happy Birthday old man!!!!
  16. QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 11:39 PM) um yea this tread should be deleted since they have a 7 game lead not a 6.5 game lead...get your facts right b4 u make a new tread buddy Stick to the post and not the poster, or else you'll be taking sometime off of posting here. I suggest you read the thread on personal attacks.
  17. I would love to go back to our record with Pods on the DL and our respective offensive output, and then compare it to since he has come off of the DL, and ask that writer to explain it.
  18. We are ditching Cingular when our contract is up in November. They sucked worse than anything I have ever seen, and they customer service was worse. We are either going to get VZ or go back to NXTL
  19. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 05:07 PM) I thought it was pretty clear that he was making a joke of the assassination remark.... Hence the :rolly smilie. But I guess I should be a little more obvious with a joke, so that the ONE PERSON who didn't get it, gets it.
  20. Brandon McCarthy just went out there and absolutely pwned the Texas Rangers offense that had kicked the s*** out of Buehrle and Garland the last two games. Think about that for a second. He didn't shutdown the Royals or something, this was one of the best offenses in baseball, and they didn't have a chance against Brandon. Congrats Brandon, but please pardon some of us for feeling a great amount of elation for your first major league win. Many of us have followed your career in great detail ever since you and your dad registered here a couple of years ago, and it feels like we know you. All of us at Soxtalk are so proud to have followed your first win, because it was one of our own that went out there and did it. Here is to many, many more, and a long healthy and rich career as a Chicago White Sox. Hopefully they brought in a forklift for your beer shower so you could really enjoy it
  21. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 03:20 PM) Every time i hear "what time is it?", i think "game time" I think of the an Spin Doctors song
  22. QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 03:11 PM) Either Warrick or Price would be an upgrade from Gage or Wade. However, they would cost more than the Beras can afford, probably. The thing is, do many teams have much cap money left at this stage of the season?
  23. QUOTE(spiderman @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 03:07 PM) Who is starting the 1st game for the White Sox ? Garland game one, McCarthy game two.
  24. It is 5 until 3 pm Chicago time. The game starts in a little over an hour, or 4:05 Chicago time.
  25. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 02:46 PM) When I hear KW saying "1917, 1917" I tend to believe that there is no concern for tomorrow. Obviously I don't expect him to dump top prospects for some middle-aged journeyman home run threat. But win it now (dare I say, win or die trying?) seems to be what I hear coming from management. And I think they're right. But I also think if the lead would've been 3-4 games in July you would've seen a more aggressive move on the part of the Sox. That's all. I just found it sort of ironic that there could possibly be a downside to a 12 game lead in July. Not saying there is, just that there could be. But there wasn't. They were in the midst of potential deals for AJ Burnett/Mike Lowell, Jason Schmidt, Eric Chavez, and Ken Griffey Jr, and that is just since the season started. I am just saying the premise of what you are suggesting is faulty. There was no complacency, Kenny Williams has busted his ass all year trying to find that "last piece" to the puzzle. You can bet if people weren't asking for Contreras, Marte, McCarthy and a prospect for any top of the line players, a deal would have been done.
