Offseason 2019-2020 MLB Catch All Thread

They're not broke. They're just channeling their inner Bill Wirtz. -
I have the Disney+ bundle just for star wars content. It comes with ESPN+ and Hulu. I mostly use it for Star Wars and ESPN+. Hulu is kind of a thing that I have that my mom uses. Occasionally I'll go on a South Park binge, but I'm incredibly pissed that there is no way to watch 200 and 201. I never saw them live and I want to see them. Yes, it pisses certain people off but this is America, there is free speech and SP is non-discriminatory at who they take shots at. Anyone and Everything is fair game, and that's what makes the series great. I didn't even get pissed when they claimed that Aspergers wasn't real, even though I know it very much is. I'd much rather be a member of a secret group of elite mercenaries (as they said on the show) than on the spectrum haha.

FIP is broken. If you want to evaluate pitchers, use DRA/WARP from BP. It's a better metric and more accurate imo. -
Steve Stone: more bullpen help is coming

Don't even go there. I'm sure that kid is going nowhere until they're pretty sure what they have. LMAO though. -

It doesn't necessarily have to be Collins. It could be Rutherford, Gonzalez, Adolfo or Basabe as well. I'd keep the latter two to see if they explode this year. Rutherford or Gonzalez can go for all I care. -
How good do YOU think we can be next season?

I'm in the 80-85 range. the AL is tough and it actually wouldn't shock me if they only won 77-80, but that's with no improvement from the young pitchers, Keuchel putting up a 4.40+ ERA and rookie struggles from Robert and Madrigal. It's not implausible that all of that happens, because it's the White Sox and nothing ever goes according to plan. What would your reaction be if the following happened? 1. Robert Puts up something like .240/.295/.725 2. Madrigal shows little power 3. Keuchel puts up a 4.40 ERA 4. Moncada, Eloy and Giolito continue to improve. Anderson takes a step back, but is still good. Hits .295 with 25 HR and 25 SB. 5. EE takes a step back, Grandal disappoints a bit offensively. hits .235 with 22 HR. 6. Gio Gonzalez has nothing left 7. Cease/Lopez continue to be inconsistent, and Kopech puts up a 4.30 ERA in ~100 innings, with ~ 120 K and a WHIP north of 1.40. Rodon doesn't pitch at all because he's made of glass. 8. Mazara takes a step forward, but isn't a star. Hits .285 with 30-35 bombs, and a .325 OBP. Sox finish the season with 78 wins What would be your reaction to something like this happening? -
Sox acquire Nomar Mazara for Steele Walker
Jack Parkman replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
They didn't have anywhere to put him and they were severely left-handed. They traded him because he has the least amount of team control out of their LH OF not named Choo. -

It was going to be Kopech before he got injured. Gotta hope for Robert. -

Mazara might be about to turn the corner. He's not walking much, but he slashed .287/.320/.859 in the second half last year. The MLBN videos show the changes he made to achieve that. -
Steve Stone Hinting At Another Move: Not Puig / Castellanos
Jack Parkman replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yep. Not worried about Giolito/Keuchel. One of Kopech/Cease/Lopez has to step up, and Gio Gonzalez is what he is at this point: a 5th starter. Also, after Mazara made his changes in the MLBN video, he slashed .287/.320/.859. Had a .539 SLG and a .252 ISO, with a 110 wRC+. There are reasons to be skeptical about Mazara, but there are also reasons to be hopeful. -
Well yeah, but Engel has a noodle arm and Robert doesn't. Can't put a noodle arm in RF. IIRC Engel is one of the best CF defenders in baseball. He might be better than Robert as a CF. It's Bruuuce and I'm guessing his source is Steve Stone.
-
That was the point I was going to make. Engel plays CF vs. LHP, Robert plays RF.
-
They're hoping he can unlock Nomar Mazara like he did with Yelich.
-
It depends on who. If it's any of the OF, sell high.
-
I agree here. Next winter is when they make that type of trade, should they win the AL Central.

Sox Officially Sign Edwin Encarnacion (1YR/$12M), Kodi Medeiros DFA
Jack Parkman replied to Orlando's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He has to stop bunting. Out of all of the players in this lineup, Madrigal is the only one that should be bunting. How to Bunt: 1. Don't. 2. Hit a dinger. -

Hopefully 2020 is Renteria's last year. -
This is likely.

Not likely. The players and FO like him. -

Lol. Don't remind me that Renteria is still the manager you fucking buzzkill. (Half joking and 100% ball busting) -

This would have been a perfect offseason had they landed Wheeler. Keuchel is a nice consolation prize. Given that Wheeler didn't want to leave the East Coast, this is as well as the Sox could have done. Hell of an offseason. They kept a lot of payroll flexibility as well. -

Engel was a +0.8 so even when he was in, it wasn't awful. -

Yeah. I thought the Sox were worse in RF than they actually were. The Sox were -1.3 in RF and -3.4 at DH. Between the two, they were -4.7. Just at those two positions alone, going by Steamer, the Sox added 7.7 WAR. Don't underestimate how that is a massive upgrade. -

Where do I go on fangraphs to find out exactly how pitiful the Sox were in RF and DH last year?
