River North after midnight has been a police officer's nightmare in the last 18 months. A lot of crime. -
Flying in for a couple games, need info
Dick Allen replied to Ozzie for Manager's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I live on the Near North Side/Gold Coast. I take the Red Line to Sox games. I generally feel safe, but not nearly as safe as I did 2 years ago. When I walk my dog at night, I have on me an old wallet with $1 in it and expired credit and debit cards, and my old phone in one pocket. People have been shot a couple of blocks away in recent years. Last year, 2 cars parked on the street in front of my home were riddled with bullets overnight. It is getting scarier, and not too far from scary. As for the Red Line, I think you will be fine as long as you have a game crowd on the train. On the way back in from the park, when you enter the train, it will smell of weed and cigarettes every time. Just stay aware and keep your phone out of sight until you get off the train. For the hotel, try hotwire.com. As someone who has gone on several baseball road trips, I would want to stay in Mag Mile/Water Tower. If you get the Westin, you may see the Sox opponents. That's where most teams stay. -
The team had a better winning percentage in 2020 and lost in the first round of the playoffs, just like with Tony. The manager got fired. Everyone knew it was the correct move. Then they bring in this guy because JR wants to right what he considers a personal wrong. He may have done himself a solid, but he wronged his team, his management staff, and all the fans.

As opposed to you who always rides on their worst game. The problem is, even with Mr. Energy, Josh Harrison, and Hahn's offseason pick ups were pretty easy to guess how they would turn out, this team isn't focused enough. The Big Hurt on the team's own postgame show, said they were sleepwalking the last Yankees game. Ozzie, on the team's own postgame show, said game 2, they weren't into it. They were content with the game 1 win. It's on the HOF baseball person. For anyone that remembered or was able to remember his first tour here, they all knew there was no way he would live up to expectations because he wasn't so good. Now older and out of the dugoout for quite some time, he's not even what he was. Renteria had to go, but they didn't even upgrade. I think right now, Renteria, with all his warts, was a better manager. At least they always played hard.

5/17 Sox @ Royals Game 1 | 1:10PM CT

The thing is, these guys aren't as bad as their current numbers. Regressing to the mean will happen, and it will be fun. At least for a little while. -
Cmon man. He took Pujols deep yesterday. If LaRussa was his manager, he would beg the Cardinals throw at him his next AB.
-
It's not just the hitting. This team loses focus with all phases. That's on the HOF baseball person. But that obvious move will never happen unfortunately. Even the Big Hurt said they were sleepwalking through Sunday's game. How do you sleepwalk against the Yankees.

Carlos Rodon... What could the Sox gotten in trade?
Dick Allen replied to DanofDuPage's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Exactly. He was so in demand, on the open market he commanded the exact same as Vince Velaszquez. -

This team lacks focus. Get a new manager before it's too late. -

He did get one guy out. Tepera was cheaper and healthier. God these guys spend so much money on crap. -
Of course I hated the hire. I was happy when Hawl fired him in 1986. But he hooked up with Oakland when they were ready to win and won with them, then when they got bad he was able to move to perhaps the best run team in baseball for more than a decade, and got tons of accolades for that. The question I have is he has been back in the White Sox dugout for around 200 games, can you think of 1 time the HOF baseball person schooled his counterpart? I can't

Is it still contactless or can you use cash again?
Dick Allen replied to vilehoopster's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yet they still have ATMs in the park. They should make them so you can throw cash in them and a card come out you can use at the concession stands. Maybe I need to write JR about joining his organ I zation. The other thing that sucks is you have to either tip or hit a button to skip the tip when using plastic. Sorry, I don’t need to tip someone $2 to hand me an Aquafina they are charging me $7. You’re charging that much, you should be able to pay your workers a respectable wage. -
2 HRs tonight minimum. Thanks Ronny.

GT: Yankees at White Sox, Game 1 - 7:10 CT

It was hot out, he got the first 2 hiters. Not being loose isn't an excuse for Kelly. They guy couldn't locate the plate. I can't stand LaRussa, have no idea why they brought him out of retirement, and would love to be able to blame him for everything wrong in the world, but this wasn't his fault. Leaving him in, yes, but not putting him in. -

No it's not. He wasn't ready to pitch the first 6 or 7 weeks of the season. They knew that going in. For a team that supposedly has budget problems all the time, they sure do spend a lot on shit. Shit everyone can see coming for miles. -

Maybe Joe Kelly would feel more comfortable closing. He sucks. -
Figures. My wait on the waiting list ended this year.

Unless the Sox are looking for a chemist to fix their hitting woes, Cano is not a solution. They could use a 2B. It isn't even clear if Cano can still play there. They need to aim a bit higher.

People get fired, and they wonder why. He was with the team for a long time. I would bet someone told him it was because he was gay. That doesn't mean it was. That person might have considered him a friend, didn't think it out, and didn't want to tell him there was a possibility they fired him because he wasn't good at his job or some other reason. And maybe during their conversation Ball led him to saying that. Maybe he told the guy he thought it was because he was gay, and the guy responded, yes. Or maybe the guy is a whistleblower. The fact is, there probably isn't a large employer that hasn't had similar lawsuits filed against them. Age, orientation, disability...if you were looking for a job and saw these lawsuits, and what was on the lawsuit filed, you considered gospel, would have a very hard time finding employment. .
-
Why didn't he file suit once he was told that either? That was December of 2020, It's been a pretty long time. He's thrown a couple of discriminations at them. Sexual orientation and age, which begins at 40. Yet they employed him and promoted him after that age. Yet, it could be true. My take is they probably tried to settle before the suit. Told the team if you don't settle, this would happen, and it would obviously become public. As to individual A, I would say it's probably better than even money he told Ball that. But if he was speaking to him, he's probably a friend, and isn't going to tell him he was bad at his job . If they didn't fire him because he was gay, and the only evidence is the lawsuit, I would hate to be that individual.
-
Do you really think the White Sox fired him for being gay? He said they found out he was gay in 2018. In 2020 he got promoted.
-
Cannot say what is in the lawsuit is all BS, there probably is some truth in there, but if the suit does say they knew of his orientation well before he was promoted to head trainer, so I don't know how far he will get. It depends on how good his lawyer is. There may be some sort of settlement to make it go away. I doubt it goes to trial. He isn't working, so he probably needs some money.
