  1. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 05:36 PM) The best GM in baseball should have at least one World Series ring. I know that's a lofty goal and all, but it's true. Dombrowski has one.
  2. doesn't know how to build a farm system. Can't figure out how to build a bullpen. Go away and take Ausmus with you. Some comments from Tigers fans after a DD article. Did they copy and paste Soxtalk?
  3. QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 04:46 PM) if i remember correctly, before Adam laroche was signed, there was a discussion on this site of a nice signing for the dh. KM was discussed then as well. In fact' when Robin pitched around KM the opening series, he was called a dope. Hindsight is a helluva drug.
  4. The White Sox wouldn't just name a new scouting director if Dombrowski was coming. I think he is going to the Angels.
  5. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 04:22 PM) I guess he was fired for not adding to the roster and going for it at the deadline, we all know that their owner is desperate for a championship. Dombrowski appears to be a victim of his owner's desperation. The guy is in his 80s and he knows the clock is tickng. That is one thing people miss about JR. I think he is 78, and most of his investors are the same age or older. They don't want to invest 3 or 4 or 5 years in a totsl rebuild with no guarantee it will work. I think they wiill be doing a mini Illich trying to get back to contention.
  6. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 04:15 PM) Just going to annotate these SP FAs with some numbers. Pitcher - 2015 WAR/2014+2015 WAR, career FIP (age in 2016 season) David Price - 3.7/9.8, 3.24 (30) Johnny Cueto - 3.1/7.7, 3.79 (30) Scott Kazmir - 2.6/5.8, 3.89 (32) Mat Latos - 1.5/3.2, 3.40 (28) Mike Leake - 1.6/3.8 4.17 (28) Jordan Zimmerman - 2.4/7.7, 3.33 (30) Yovani Gallardo - 1.6/3.3, 3.73 (30) Ian Kennedy - -0.5/3.0, 4.03 (31) Jeff Samardzija - 2.4/6.6, 3.74 (31) Brett Anderson - 1.3/2.3, 3.54 (28) (note -> last season before 2015 that he threw 100 IP was 2010) Does Samardzija really look like the worst or second worst of those groups in terms of market value? Price, Cueto, and Zimmerman are the only ones who I'd say are a lock to earn more. Let's not forget that Samardzija also has the sort of name recognition that tends to make guys money. He is middle of the road. It will be interesting to see if there are enough 9 figure deals to go around this winter. I think he will get paid, but that could be the biggest obstacle in his way. I know one thing, I wouldn't want to owe him $100 million or more. I have a hard time thinking he is going to get better from here.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 03:58 PM) Since Dombrowski was originally with the Sox, wouldn't hiring him be a loyalty move? Of course.
  8. QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 02:57 PM) Garcia still in the lineup....what a surprise Yeah they should throw Trace Thompson to the wolves, and then when he goes 0-4 with the golden sombrero, we can b**** about Robin's managerial skills, and then go back to his lack of experience when he took the job.
  9. What is interesting about this report, if accurate, was the Sox were granted a window, didn't sign him, but still made the trade. Did they think he would change his mind after a couple of months with the Sox? Was the package bigger if he did extend? What was the purpose of the window if they still made the trade with no signature?
  10. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 03:36 PM) That's the thing, though. Even if nothing ever comes of this, he's done. Nothing wipes away that kind rep. I doubt nothing ever comes of this. I think there was a reason the world knew the FBI was at Jared's house, and I don't think it was his neighbors alerting the media. They, more than likely, have some real damning stuff against him. If he did talk to the women about his "fetish" even if he didn't act, it would be enough for him not to be a spokesman for my company. It could be just coincidence the guy running his charity was busted for what he was busted for, but that seems a bit improbable. I know this is the USA, innocent until proven guilty, but you can connect some dots, and realize something was more than likely happening that shouldn't happen. And realize not all criminals wind up in jail. I never recalled people mentioning how OJ's life was ruined 20 years ago being accused of something for which he was found not guilty.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 10:21 AM) JD Martinez would have looked nice in RF or LF and wouldn't have cost us a thing other than a waiver claim. We passed. Detroit didn't. Thirty bombs this year already. Jose Quintana would look pretty good in just about every rotation. Anyone could have had him. Guys fall through the cracks. JD Martinez would be a better RF than Alex Rios, and Q would look pretty good in the rotation for your KC Royals.
  12. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 09:01 PM) Some little nerd was throwing his hat in the way but the ball soared over him, dunno why they even discussed it I think he challenged it to get his reliever a few more warm up tosses
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 01:22 PM) One remarkable thing might be...he might have pitched so poorly overall this season that you could legitimately see his price dropping into the range where the White Sox could afford him. Why they'd want him after this season I have no clue. But since I think it's a terrible idea, I assume the White Sox will do it. Dan O'Dowd was asked if he would give Shark $100 million. He said no because he isn't an Opening Day starter. He really might not be a #2, and in 3 or 4 years is probably a #4 or #5 at best. His reputation has always beat his actual performance. He did have a good year last year, but this year's performance shouldn't be a shock. He's been very good a lot, and horrible a lot. Not much domination, and seems to be having a tough time missing bats when he has to miss them. I think they want the draft pick and are probably very happy Samardzija wanted to test free agency no matter what. I'd be shocked if they are willing to go very high for him. And I don't think he is going to get $20 million a year for 5 or 6 years unless he goes on an unreal dominant roll the next 2 months, which appears very unlikely.
  14. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 12:56 PM) Sox are VERY unlikely to get an offer that is better than the comp pick. Now that we're into August, teams don't have to bid against each other. One team will win the claim on Samardzija, and they will probably lowball their offer. If they need him, maybe the pay. If they don't want to pay, the Sox will at least have something.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 01:02 PM) Do you think James Shields's deal counts as a "team friendly contract"? He had to wait until the end of the FA period, he got a lot less than I thought he would get, yet his contract is still imposing enough after only 4 months of baseball that it seemed reasonable for San Diego to think about moving him at the deadline just to clear the contract. That is a bit different. You have to consider the backload, and missing out on his youngest season.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 01:00 PM) Why, if some team's willing to pay him $100 million this off-season? I will believe it until we see Kazmir sign for more money and years. So you just ignore reality and say yeah they could have picked up those guys for 2 months of him. And Kazmir didn't net Norris and Hoffman. He netted an A ball catcher, who you now have destined for the HOF. Just remember, you were the guy who after 2 years in the White Sox system, when someone asked what the Sox had in Dayan Viciedo responded, Pedro Guerrero. That was before you went all Jay Marriotti and decided every move the White Sox make will be considered wrong.
  17. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 09:14 AM) Valencia isn't a "placeholder" if used properly. I always love this used properly line. Has no one used him properly in his career? The guy is on pace to play for the entire AL. He is a placeholder.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 06:36 PM) We'd be better off with Daniel Norris or Jeff Hoffman. Oops. Now someone inevitably will post a critical review of Hoffman despite it being his first month back from TJ surgery...which historically has required 18-24 months to be back at 100% or better. What we need is a link that shows the White Sox could have received those guys in a trade for Samardjiza, which you will not be able to provide. It's your BS posts again. David Price > Jeff Samardzija. It is funny now TJ requires 18-24 months, when you were so giddy earlier this year about Hochevar and Medlin throwing for the Royals.
  19. I don't know why anyone has their panties in a bunch over this. One thing I have noticed is the guys Boras holds out. Morales, Drew, Soriano, Viciedo, when they eventually sign, they are just awful. Injured players miss thwt time and many do OK. But these guys were nothing but bad. I know he has them working out at some academy. He better go back to the drawing board, because they are no help.
  20. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 09:00 AM) On the particular play you mention still can't see how you come to that conclusion that 3/4 of RF get that ball. 1st of all you have to know where he was starting from. If he was shaded towards center field that's a very long way to go to catch that ball. TV doesn't show you that . Mostly all we saw was Sanchez running out then veering off when Avi came into the picture. And I've seen our OF and opposing team OF trying to get above the fence to rob HR's and most don't because of the padding lip they always hit their shoulder on which screws up their jump. Avi avoided doing that last night. I came to the conclusion because I was at the game and saw everything inclipiding where Avi started from from start to finish. He pulled up at the end for Sanchez. It ahould have been the other way around. Melky has snagged a couple. Eaton has. Shuck has. It is nice that they do and Avi did save 3 runs last night. I am an Avi defender, but as a defender, he is not good.
  21. Shark has to keep the ball on the ground today.it is crazy windy in Chicago right now. Took my dog for a walk and it was hard to walk. Not a cloud in the sky but showers are in the forecast.
  22. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 04:30 AM) Big moment in the game came in the 3rd with 2 on , no outs Sox ahead 2-0 and Gregorius hits one to RF and Avi goes and robs him of a 3 run HR. Ends up a sac fly and that 1 run was all Danks gave up but easily could've been 3 . http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article/140...gorius-of-homer That's the 2nd HR he's robbed this year. Avi works the fence better than any Sox OF I've seen in a while. Being as tall as he is helps . I know what the defensive metrics say about him and I see many posters saying how bad he is in RF but are they actually seeing bad defense or echoing the stats ? I watch most of the games and I just don't see a terrible fielder. Admittedly TV doesn't always pick up the jump/read an OF gets or the route he runs . I don't see him kicking the ball around like we'd see with Viciedo and DeAza and robbing HR's is always a big play and possible momentum point in a game. He works the fence well because he has nothing to lose if he doesn't get it. He also is confident throwing, but just about everything else he is very tentative, to the point someone actually accused him of jaking it. That is a lack of confidence. Just last night, Danks last batter was a pop up that dropped down the RF line. I would say at least 3/4 of major league RF make that play, and most of those rather routinely. He has kicked balls, have them go by him etc. just like offensively, he has tools to make himself great, but somethimg is holding him back. When they got him, the Sox thought he was could play CF.
  23. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 10:10 PM) I wonder how much the CG SHO over Houston is skewing that ERA. It would stil be 2.40. Despite what some want to say, 3 out of 4 Danks starts are not awful.
  24. The gun at the park had Danks at 93 a lot tonight. I don't think I have seen that from him simce pre surgery. Except for the walks, he was fantastic. Got some help from Avi and Sanchez, and Melky. The defense looks really good. The offense is clicking. If that continues it should he fun the next 2 months.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 12:39 PM) Then they needed to add a bat. Even a decent bat. No discussion, no debate. They needed to add a bat. They can still add a bat.
