2017 NFL off season thread
Harry Chappas replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (chw42 @ May 4, 2017 -> 12:36 PM) https://sports.yahoo.com/news/jay-cutler-ma...-160311630.html I'm surprised by the lack of interest in Cutler. You'd think some team with a QB deficiency (49ers, Jets, Browns, etc.) would at least take a flier on him. They all want to tank and get a high pick next year to draft one of the three that will go 1, 2, 3 My guess is some team with a good starter would grab him after and injury but if nobody is lookign for him......wow want a flame and failure out of a career -
5/4 - White Sox @ Royals Game Thread

Day is slipping away from me and I just checked in. The thing I think I am seeing more of this are the following; The tipping of the cap to guys that we should not be tipping our cap to has decreased. The hitting seems to be beating the pitching they should and is stringing things together moreso than in the past. Davidson hits those he should and struggles against those you think he would. Abreu getting into game shape earlier this year than last. Really is a shame the pitching is getting dinged up but I guess that is across the board. -
QUOTE (flavum @ May 3, 2017 -> 11:06 PM) Trout (8) Yawn I have heard 10x more about Aaron Judge this year then I have Mike Trout.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ May 4, 2017 -> 12:19 PM) Sure but the Rangers aren't just going to let him go for nothing, and I'm not really interested in giving up anything meaningful for him at this point, he's shown nothing. Plus even if he figures it out he's a free agent pretty soon. I thought his name came up in the Rios trade often...maybe Dementia is setting in, been one of those days.....how f'd up though if Leury Garcia has a more prominent career than Profar. -
QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ May 1, 2017 -> 10:07 PM) great ep of Better Call Saul Yes it is.

doing with 4 pitchers on the DL. The depth of this pen should keep it from being overworked.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 09:51 AM) One thing to remember is...no one thought the Bears were taking a QB @ 3. That includes most other teams. My guess is they were getting calls from teams looking to move up to get a QB (or other player) and one of those teams was the Browns (who had no idea Bears were in on Trubisky and who thought Bears were moving down...because Bears didn't want Browns to take Trubisky one...they wanted Browns to think they could get "cute" and get both of there guys). When Pace was hearing the offers from the Browns, he probably knew, if he wasn't willing to deal, then the Browns might (or were) also talking to Niners (and there could be other teams in the equation as well), so with that, he had Trubisky as the franchise guy and moved up to make sure he got him. I could definitely see the above scenario playing out...it could be nonsense too. This is why I don't think they were betting against themselves which I originally thought. I think they knew what teams were offering and had ideas of who was looking to move up to grab a QB which teams did a further back in the draft.

My lord does a good bullpen make a manager look good. That bullpen is utter filth right now. -

It really is mind boggling how this organization neglects defense especially at first base. Abreu is a garden gnome over there. When Dunn got here he should have played first over Konerko althoguh that one make some sense out of respect to Konerko, same thing with LaRoche, guy was a gold glove first baseman that they never put out there. Abreu should never play the field. -

That was a wasted opportunity. Are the shadows creeping in because the Sox did not appear to pick up the spin on the curve that inning. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 01:09 PM) Stark will be on MLB Network in a week. Ya he'll be hired there in no time. Too bad Ravech is still at ESPN.

Looks like both team just want to get out of Dodge. The Royals were kind of doing their thing with smoke and mirrors. Without Ventura to shoulder a spot as a #1 or #2 and a bullpen that is not top of the league, they look rather weak. -
Leonys Martin DFA, any interest?

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 24, 2017 -> 11:07 AM) It's a no brainer IMO. As Jose said, maybe he improves and you can flip him, if he sucks, just cut him. Is it even possible to suck as bad as May or Asche? -
Indians @ Sox, 7:10 Quintana vs Kluber

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 22, 2017 -> 06:12 AM) "I knew the Sox were rebuilding but I didn't know it meant I'd have to watch bad players play baseball!" The issue is leaving Davidson, saladino and L Garcia on the bench for Ashe and may. I get it they are going to lose but what is gained by playing those two over the three I mentioned. If there was some sort of split then ok but those two aren't using the splits to their favor. I think their bullpen is too good for them to really suck so again here we are. This team looks exactly like prior years. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 08:53 PM) Why do they keep letting May bat in late situations? I really don't get what they are doing right now playing him and Asche so much I get its a rebuild but may wnd asche should never play ever. -
The Bourjas trade is still a head scratcher in that they literally gave him away and had no viable option behind him. If the spring performance of May lead them to believe he was the answer, well, I am not certain what to make of that. If it was a 40 man roster spot that they did not not want to give him, then ok, that makes some sense but I don't think that is the case as the 40 man is at 39 I believe but I could be wrong. I know there is a rebuild and winning and losing is not the main thing but that move makes no sense at all.

The bourjas trade is odd....did they think may was ready? He looks awful.

I am finding this team intriguing. Wish Abreu and Frazier would play better. -

Yesterday the White Sox were going to get run out of town.......I must say I am becoming intrigued. A great story would be if Joe Maddon actually made the Sox a better team by leaving Tampa. -
It's an awesome handout.

Ah yes white sox baseball. Guy can't find the plate......swing first pitch. Hopefully the player development changes take hold because the current philosophy of hitting his mystifyingly outdated.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 10:05 PM) Ashe blows but why u down on .400 Avi?The dropped fly ball? That IMO was partly Abreu's fault. Even though I do realize Avi has to scream him off the ball, but Abreu looked like a runaway truck barrelling and circling that ball. Avi is an ok hitter but a terrible baseball player. His defense is embarrassing.
