  1. I am not sure if this is ag ood thing or a bad thing but this team gives away more games or I should is in position to win more games than they are ever truely beaten in. Again, I am not sure if that is a good thing or bad thing. Guillen and Cox with some really poor decisions. These three games should be balls out. The next six are meaningless after this series. Contreras in the 7th was stupid and pointless. He was getting hit hard, really hard. With the Tiger pen you are never out of it.
  2. PLEASE SEE POST #678 ABOVE. Thank you and goodnight.
  3. Hitters have terrible swings against cub pitching. Every team seems to have a Juan Uribe at-bat in big situations. Also the cub rotation is not nearly as good as advertised and the pen is coming down to a one man show and Wood. What is the over/under on Chipper Jones getting hurt before next week when the Braves come to town and if he does play, chances he goes 1-12....see Lance Berkman when the cub played Houston.
  4. If the guys they have drafted are all low money signable guys, why not take Danks and see if anything can be done. You know some team will.
  5. I wish people would realize that in the middle of June last year, the White Sox gave up on the season as injuries and s***ty decisions in the bullpen over the offseason killed them and for that we have Gordon Beckham. I don't know if Thome and Konerko will get back into the .280's and 30HR range, but guess what, neither are a good number of otehr proven hitters in baseball. The times appear to be a changing as faras offense goes. If those two and Swisher can get to .260/.380 with 20-25 and 85-100 and the pitching staff is close to the top in baseball, 2005 will not be the comparison for what this team can do.
  6. First two guys get on...3 pitches later inning over, sigh Bring in Massett.
  7. Beckham had almost as many home runs (24) as strike-outs (29). That is all I need to know. Nice pick
  8. By doing the stupid slotting system baseball is shooting themselves in the head as the rich get richer and those looking to blame someone else for not spending money are given a convenient excuse not to.
  9. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 11:02 AM) That was Charlie Finley's A's that did that, correct? Poof, I love Google. Finley was responsible for other dubious innovations, all adopted in an effort to boost attendance for a losing team in a small market. He installed a mechanical rabbit named "Harvey" (after the imaginary rabbit in the Jimmy Stewart movie of the same name) behind home plate to deliver new balls to the ump. You can count on the fingers of one hand the number of major league stadiums that currently feature the rabbit-o-matic ball service--if you're a one-armed man. He put goats beyond the outfield fence in left field at Kansas City's Memorial Stadium to eat the grass. He adopted a live mule--"Charlie-O"--as a mascot, and once brought it into the press room to annoy reporters after it had recently been fed. In order to keep FoxSports.com free of inappropriate content, I will leave the rest of this incident to your imaginations. Finley eventually moved the team to Oakland and turned it around, producing three straight World Series from 1972 to 1974. He sold the team in 1981, but his legacy of lunacy lives on in those green and gold uniforms. The team's mascot appears on the sleeves of their jerseys as a green elephant, thereby obscuring a part of baseball history.
  10. I believe at this point in time Broadway and Haegar are better served to pitch on a regular basis and increase their trade value in case something needs to be done later this month or next. Loaiza is most likely not going to get a substantial role with this team other than a spot start and an inning here or there. His arm should be fresh whenever it is needed. He has been written off a few times but has bounced back before. Low risk/High reward
  11. This is a game a team that wants to be thought of as something needs to win in convincing fashion. KC has hit more than 10% of their season's home run total in this series.
  12. If the President of the United States is from Chicago the airport will be built in Peotone with some express route to downtown Chicago and the Olympics will be granted to them. People that complain about the impact it will have on the city do not fully understand the magnitude of positive benefit it can have. To have the Olympics in smaller cities, can kill their economy. In the right situation it can be used as an economic springboard. I think Obama winning in November could do huge wonders to the Chicagoland area for the remainder of my lifetime and I am 37.
  13. QUOTE (kane0730 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 04:39 PM) Same line-up as last night: OC 2-4 AJ 1-4 CQ 1-2 KONG 0-4 THOME 0-4 DYE 1-3 SWISHER 1-3 CREDE 0-4 LEXI 2-4 8 hits is my call and 4-1 Sox victory.
  14. Whatever happened to the rabbit that came out of the ground to give the pitcher a new ball? Did that ever exist or did I imagine that as a kid?
  15. I think Maddux will pitch another year.
  16. Crow so that Broadway could be traded in June for something to help now and then replace Count in 2010. I'd love Danks with the next pick, wishful thinking, I know.
  17. QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 01:11 PM) Definitely not the Reds. They have Cueto, Volquez, Bailey, Harang, and Arroyo, every one a better bet than Loaiza. The Pirates are also loaded with young pitchers, even if some of them aren't so hot. The Nats starters have been surprisingly good. The Brewers could use a pitcher, but even Bush has been as good as Loaiza this year. Loaiza's just too old -- teams that are rebuilding are going to take their chances with the longest-shot youngster before going to Loaiza. Teams that are competing mostly have a passable 1-5. Loaiza for the remainder of the year for a team not going anywhere is better than getting the FA clocking run when you are out of it already. He also could eat innings and possibly net you an extra pick in the draft if he pans out.
  18. I just find it hard to believe that no other team would give him a starting spot in their rotation. Especially a bad tem. Unless he knows he is finished wouldn't he Pirates, Reds, etc. be able ot offer him a spot to build up his value for this offseason. Maybe the Sox just guaranteed him a rotation spot in AAA where he is free to leave whenever he wanted.
  19. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 11:34 AM) Well if you have 2 players with very similar OBP and SLG numbers but one has a .050 point advantage in batting average, you go with him since a single > a walk. Example 1: Player A: .300/.380/.500/.880 Player B: .250/.380/.500/.880 It's player A all the way. Example 2: Player A: .300/.330/.500/.830 (IsoD = .030) Player B: .260/.370/.500/.870 (IsoD = .110) Now who are you taking? Way to confusing for me and bit of stat overload. I'll take Yaz and the don't tell what you hit, tell me when you hit guy....unless Catfish or Sam McDowell are pitching, than all of those numbers are crap.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 12:16 PM) The Yanks sure loved Loaiza when he was there. Has anyone actually seen Loaiza pitch this year? His fastball was in the mid 80s when I saw it, and he had very little in terms of offspeed pitches. Wasn't he injured? Maybe he is done then as I have not seen him but was going by last season more than this when he was at least servicable.
  21. Maybe Massett and another player in a trade of some sort..........
  22. What is odd is why wouldn't other teams be able to offer him a starting rotation spot. Really low risk / high reward....... Look at he Yanks, sign him and move Joba back to the pen. Maybe he really liked it here and wanted to return for some reason. Hell, he would at least be a .500 pitcher guaranteed in the NL. For an inning or two, Loaiza could be as effective as anyone out of the pen
  23. As long as Thome, Konerko and Swisher hit around .200 there is nothing the remaining line-up or Greg Walker can do for this team.
  24. The book on Ramirez in Tucson was he could hit any fastball and the breaking stuff would get him. Thus far he has looked to be looking all breaking balls, which he should, and fouling off the fastballs deeper in the count. This to me shows signs of a player that can be successful in the majors. The fact he has the tools and ability to play anywhere in the field is another plus. On top of all of this, he seems to have rejuventad the Count which makes him a favorite of mine. In the last few days he seems to have cut down on his swing as he gets deeper into the count, yet another bonus. Christ, I could go on all day.
  25. Didn't learn from last year to just blow this guy away?
