  1. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 05:41 PM) As Al Franken said the media has a for profit bias. One of the few things I really agree with Al Franken about.

  3. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 05:27 PM) What was that loud crash?!? Oh, look, it was Soxy falling off the pedestal I had put her on. Mariah Carey?? How Could You...?!? Like you haven't sang "Brandy, you're a fine girl, what a gooooooood wife you would be" at full volume. Soxy, climb right back on that pedestal with your guilty pleasure.
  4. Anywhere in the Suburbs would have been better for attendance. Hell they could have gone to Schaumburg, Buffalo Grove, or even up to Libertyville and outdrown what they have now.
  5. I'd rather our guys rested. I stopped watching the AS game a long time ago.
  6. Unemployed, likes to drink, wandering, yep a Cubs fan! Damn, I've got to make a donation and make certain they know it's from a Sox fan.
  7. Pride has been on so many mandatory reading lists, there is a built in familiarity with the work that I guess attracts movie producers. I think that certain books have a specific time and place to be made. The Lord of the Rings is the best example I can think of. Earlier and the movie technology would not have done the book justice.
  8. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 11:59 AM) I never said that...but if you're gonna publish an article criticizing a country then you should let that country see the article. So we should publish our stuff in Arabic and try to sell it in Iraq? How's this for a headline? We think you Suck! please buy our magazine I think if SI published a Germany edition, I don't think they need to include NASCAR coverage, but probably more soccer coverage would be nice. Each countries magazines are generally produced in-country. They are trying to make money for their shareholders. Imagine of they lost money what the comments would be from Wall street. So people in other countries like to read anti-American articles? I don't really care.
  9. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 04:29 PM) Seriously, how many adaptations of Pride and Prejudice can there possibly be? Do we really need another one? There are a million or so other great books that would be just as good (if not better) movies. Is P&P royalty free at this point?

Been dazed and confused for so long, it’s not true, Wanted a woman, never bargained for you. Take it easy baby, let them say what they will. Will your tongue wag so much when I send you the bill?
  11. In real life I have a lot of patience. The only time I go ballistic in a hurry is when someone is being a bully and taking advantage of someone. That just pisses me off to no end.

She lit a burner on the stove and offered me a pipe "I thought you'd never say hello," she said "You look like the silent type." Then she opened up a book of poems And handed it to me Written by an Italian poet From the thirteenth century. And every one of them words rang true And glowed like burnin' coal Pourin' off of every page Like it was written in my soul from me to you, Tangled up in blue.
  13. I saw the thread title and started to type Congratulations Southsider
  14. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 10:40 AM) If newsweek wants to criticize us than have the balls to do it to us...Don't post articles for foreigners and not for us. Do you think they should publish the same magazine all around the world? That doesn't make good business sense to me.
  15. As always, exhaustive research and statistical work by Juggs. It also matches what my gut tells me.

  17. We are the greatest superpower on the planet. I don't mind some criticism, competition is what makes us great. We fix things better than any country that ever was.

  19. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 08:30 AM) Any idiot who actually watches Fox News can see that on their OPINION related shows there is a bias toward the right wing and RIGHT thinking guests. How does that relate to how the news is reported though? There you go again lumping in shows that are based on OPINION with actual news reporting. Part of it is the talking opinion makers tell you to not trust the liberal news reporting and just listen to them for the truth on what is really happening. Then they tell the GOPerheads what to think. Too many people get their news from Rush, O'Reilly, Hannity, Ingram, Savage, Colson, Chuck Muth, Kaye Daly, Tom Adkins, Beverly LaHaye, Dr. James Dobson, Medved, Reagan, do I need to go on? Just give me a ditto Nuke
  20. Hard core partisan politics sound the same from both parties. They both need an enemy to target, a big scary monster under the bed that will cause people to open up the checkbooks. Same with many types of fundraising. Notice how Christian Fundamentalists found the homosexual card to play after communism was wiped off the front page? Give now or we'll all be commies by News Years Day.
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 07:06 AM) Excuse me for being bitter but if a couple of these guys took each other out, they would be doing the rest of us a favor. Ain't that the truth.
  22. I'm, not sold on the talent in the NL East. It has the most parity, but perhaps not the best teams. Not disputing what you wrote, just offering some cautious observations.
  23. I was just thinking with Carl there, it makes it less of an ass-pucker time to have Frank play first. If Car was dealt, and we were looking at Timo as the DH, I'd be screaming for Ozzies head if he played Frank more than a handful of times at first. Now, let Frank play more at first, plus he always has hit better when he's playing defense also. Paulie certainly could use a break, and come in as a late inning defensive replacement in tight games.
  24. It is reasonably impossible to *know* with 100% certainty, what motivated someone. For that reason, I am against "hate crime" legislation. I like things that can be proven factually in a court of law. And flip this around, they should be punished *less* if the victim was a good ol' boy like themselves??
  25. One area you should all check for part time summer help are smaller businesses. You will probably have a better chance to learn something and the pay might be about the same. Think of something you would be interested in, search through the phone book, and call the owner. Tell him you search for someone doing XYZ, it sounded interesting, and you would like a job for the summer.
