  1. I can't wait! Since I am being dragged into an "engineering summit" on 3/1 and 3/2, I hope I can at least catch the recap of the PBP.
  2. QUOTE(knightni @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 11:36 AM) Pretty much every race lately if you mean Jeff Burton. Or Ricky Rudd. Somehow it is fitting that I am a fan of them and the White Sox.
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 09:33 AM) Best line heard in a NASCAR broadcast.... Ricky Craven's car starts to have problems and heads for the pits. The studio guys throw it down to their pit row guy, Dick Berggren. "So what's wrong with Craven, Dick?" Also, where else would you hear, "Jeff's rear end broke so it's to the garages with him!"
  4. If you could survive on the money at the potential job, I would look into it. But this is coming from someone who is relatively unhappy with her job.
  5. The 21 team's luck just can't get any worse. Last week, goodyear screwed them and this week Bill Elliot. Jeff B needs to figure out what the problem is and get to the front. I adore the guy, but it just kills me seeing him run like this.
  6. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 26, 2005 -> 11:04 PM) I'd like to think it isn't, but when people that take the stance that the government has to do it all for us, from provide our retirement At this point, as long as they reimburse every dollar they took from us in the name of social security, they can suspend/terminate the program as it is being run into the ground in any sense. It'e people like my parents (who are both 55) who've been paying into social security their who life on the premise it would be there when they retire that I feel bad for. At least my mom has her 401K and profit sharing and my dad has his pension and lifetime healthcare for him and my mom through his work - not all people that age do.
  7. We have Wide Open West (WOW!) internet and cable. We have the fastest they offer and it isn't a bad price (with them combined, I can't remember how they separate).
  8. QUOTE(hi8is @ Feb 25, 2005 -> 04:24 PM) that guy kinda reminds me of myself when i was going to college in santa barbara... im sure most of you remember how drunk i used to get well, only diffrence between me and this young bloke is i didnt use 375mL bottles, i used 750mL bottles.... fun fun fun let me guess, he blacked out. btw: that chick is pretty hot even with the glasses, ive got a thing for the book worm look Brian had alcohol poisoning after downing a 750ml bottle of Jack at his brother's bachelor party. He can't look at it without turning a really cool shade of green now.
  9. Practice should be underway in a half hr or so. GO JEFF B!
  10. I heard about this on the radio this morning. I swear this has been around for awhile as I remember seeing this on Unwrapped.
  11. At my last job, I wanted to design a smoke detector that plays either "Burnin' Down the House" or "Put Out the Fire" - Queen with the buzzing sound (UL mandates smoke detectors to have this). They wouldn't let me.
  12. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 11:23 PM) Actually this is one in a series of tests of the Aegis cruiser based system and a viable theater missile defense is very significant in the grand scheme of things. The company I work for makes part for the Aegis program.
  13. For my internship, I had to drive to Elk Grove Villiage for the interview. Keep in mind I lived near Midway airport and had never been north of I-55 by myself. I got lost and ended up 2.5 hrs late. I didn't have a cell phone at the time so I couldn't call. I got there and they said they understood and figured something like that happened. Well, I got through the interview and actually felt as confident as that situation would allow. I start my trek home and get to St Charles Rd on I-290 when my car died on the median. A guy in a van stopped to help me after a state trooper slowed down looked at me and left (to which I offered the Irish salute). Well, I get home and my dad and I take my car to his friend's for repairs. I figured I didn't have a shot in the dark so I didn't think about it for about 5 minutes. That's when the phone rang and it was the HR manager at the company offering me the job at $2 an hr more than what they mentioned the job was paying! That was my favorite job to this point in my career - I worked with some of the best scientists I have ever known there.

    Molested....?

QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 12:19 PM) How do they prosecute Priests for this stuff from 20+ years ago then...?? No. Outside of a civil suit, she has no legal recourse.
  15. QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 10:44 AM) I agree 100%, and I would add that I have a problem with the criterion used for determining who gets this "help." Drive by one of the housing projects one day in Chicago, and count how many windows have satellite dishes attached to them. If you have the money for satellite TV, then you don't need gov't hand-outs. I used to work in a grocery store that was on the edge of a rough neighborhood (the one I grew up in - wasn't rough at that time, but when I was between the ages of 12-16 it got ROUGH). I couldn't even tell you the numbers of times I had people come in to cash welfare checks (prior to LINK) or use food stamps that had tons of gold, name brand clothes, cell phones and/or bought lots of lottery tickets.

  17. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 09:31 AM) "I don't think it is good social policy to ask people to head down to the local Mosque for their daily bread." I don't think its good social policy for the people to get their daily bread from the government... I am trying to get caught up in this (work has actually made me work, the bastards haha), so I appologize if I am taking the above completely out of context. Speaking as someone who has eaten government food (and as I found out a good few others here have as well), my family also received a food basket from the mother's club of the Catholic grammar school I went to when I was a kid. A helping hand is needed from time to time. After that two year period, we never had to take that to make ends meet again. I also know it killed my parents inside to have to take a hand out, but because it was between that having malnourished kids, they swallowed their pride. There is nothing wrong with the government helping out. There is a problem with people who live on the handout rather than using it as a temporary help.

    Cola

QUOTE(Goldmember @ Feb 22, 2005 -> 09:00 PM) Mt. Dew That is Brian's obsession. I can tell that work is stressing him out because 3 6 packs of 24oz MD only lasted him from Saturday to yesterday. All I can say is that it is a good thing our dentist is a family friend.
  19. QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 12:24 PM) Paul doesn't have a chance at the HOF and his face is quickly forgotten when Frank steps to the plate. Aaron is more popular than Paul. As in Aaron Rowand? Are you sure 'bout that? Also, at this point in time I am more concerned with the team winning a game in the playoffs as opposed to one of the guys' chances of getting into the hall.
  20. Brian and I are screwed. We don't live close to work nor are there available public transportation that could get us there under 3 hrs. Such is life I guess, at least I get decent mileage for my car.

    Cola

QUOTE(mreye @ Feb 22, 2005 -> 05:28 PM) Wow. Most people I know are dead set for one and against the other. Not for both. I prefer Diet Pepsi, but I don't mind Diet Coke. I used to really dislike any coke product and then I worked for a can company that supplies a great deal of cans to coke so that is what they had in vending machines and as free samples so it grew on me. So when I buy pop to take to work for lunch I get which ever is on sale between the two.
  22. QUOTE(mreye @ Feb 22, 2005 -> 05:18 PM) Like Scott Riggs? Just saying. He and Lepage were the only variations from last year. To each their own. Now that real racing starts (as opposed to restrictor plate racing), I guess we have more of a shot of seeing differentiation.
