  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 02:25 PM) The infamous 32-14 doubleheader shellacking by the Twins. I was in the outfield for this day game, it was so f***ing hot. And they just kept scoring. Both teams, actually. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CH...200707061.shtml I already posted that because I'll never forget.
  2. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 02:27 PM) Pujols is not getting any younger, and is still under contract for years Richards has not been healthy, the bullpen is a mess, the rotation is a mess, and the existing core of position players outside of Trout is not all that great Neither the bullpen nor the rotation are a mess at all. There is no surefire stud, but the Angels have a set rotation with Alex Meyer acting as a bullpen piece or 6th starter. They have some decent arms in the pen, though no one that really jumps out either way. They have probably an average lineup or so, but Trout takes it to the next level. Without Trout, I'd probably say they are a 75-79 win team, barring significant injuries. You add Trout to that and they are an 83-87 win team. The players around Trout really do not have to be all that great, because Trout is all that great.
  3. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 02:24 PM) Being roughly .500, with an awful farm system is not a good place to be. See "White Sox last decade" (minus Trout) It's not a bad place to be either, and they have more resources to bring in supplemental players.
  4. Actually, the Angels are projected to win 85 games as of right now, and the offseason isn't over. A lot can change with injuries, of course, but having a guy like Mike Trout can take a very mediocre team and make them good.
  5. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 09:05 PM) Hopefully, but there are still plenty of options in Trumbo and Bautista. I still don't get this logic. How is Frazier comparable? Because he hit some dingers? Abreu's market makes much, much more sense. Teams looking at Frazier view him as a 3B. How many teams that were in on Encarnacion, Trumbo, Bautista, hell even Carter, view those guys as 3B? If the Sox were to actually sell Frazier as a 1B, then, even knowing what he did with Sale and Eaton at the Winter Meetings, Hahn should be fired tomorrow, because Frazier is about a 1 WAR player at 1B and the value would be reflected upon that. He's probably about a 2.5-3 WAR player at 3B who had some bad luck with BABIP and good luck with power who can get a top 150 prospect or 2 guys who has 45-50 FV who are a ways away.
  6. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 09:58 PM) but he's guaranteed to make the playoffs and have a shot at the WS. He's already made 40mil and is guaranteed 65 more. As far as I'm concerned, the Indians have positioned themselves a little better to compete with the Sox now.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 11:16 PM) List of all the AL Central players that might be available at ASB... Dozier (if not traded to LAD first) Erwin Santana/H.Santiago/Gibson/Phil Hughes Jason Castro JD Martinez Kinsler Verlander Jordan Zimmerman Duffy Cain Hosmer Moustakas A.Escobar Frazier Robertson Me.Cabrera Quintana, Abreu, Jones, Jennings, Putnam, Holland, whoever else happens to appear on the White Sox roster between now and July 31st? I will also bet you dimes to dollars Jason Castro isn't dealt this year, unless the Twins get a package that far outvalues his worth over the last 2 years combined. You typically don't sign a guy to a 3 year contract and then deal him the summer after signing him. I also don't understand the point of your post and am questionining myself as to why I responded to it.
  8. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 08:35 PM) Frazier market will probably start heating up a little. How does this heat up the Frazier market, like, at all? Because they both hit 40 homers? How is that even a hot market? He'd be an upgrade to quite a few teams, but, even if I agree with them selling on him, he's not going to net a ton. Maybe a couple of 45-50 FV prospects with upside. Guys who are 3-5 years away. I'm OK with that return, but that's not a hot market.
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 04:10 PM) The best part of rebuilding is being able to experiment with less than sure things or also-rans from other orgs and see who sticks. We were so hanging on a thread needing every bit of production we couldn't develop at major league level and we pushed everyone up to major league level as soon as we could squeeze an ounce of production from them. I am 100% confident one of our experiments (or more) will pan out next 2 years. Casey Blake was on the Hall of Fame ballot this year. Casey Blake! I remember him coming up with the Twins and watching him play and, I was young as hell, but thinking that he had one of the worst swings I'd ever seen. He was a quad-A player if there ever was one. And then he ended up on the Hall of Fame ballot because he stuck around 10 years and was good. Not that anyone voted for him (at least I hope not), but this is your exact point and I had a specific example in mind. Yes, let all of the quad A players play.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 05:38 PM) That is the exact opposite of what is being reported re:Robertson. I think if they rush to move him, they'd regret it. $25 million over 2 years for a reliever with his upside is something very affordable in this market. He's not at the level of a guy like Miller or Chapman, but he could easily be just a step below that, which still has large value on the open market. Put another way, if the return they got for him was Jorge Soler, I'd be disappointed. Given, the Royals are also looking to capitalize on major league talent, while the Sox are looking at future value, so that's part of the reason too, but I think Robertson is worth more than that. Jones is definitely far more valuable.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 05:17 PM) They have Q and Jones. That is it. The rest are a list of names that aren't bringing much in return in the current market place. Robertson would bring a fair amount back, but I almost feel it's best to move Jones and Robertson at the deadline. Teams have shown a willingness to pony up big prospects for stud, high leverage relievers. Just last year the Yankees got two huge returns for Chapman and Miller.
  12. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 10:38 AM) You do not just trade Sale and Eaton and call it an offseason, that would run counter to performing an impactful rebuild Trading Eaton and Sale effectively punts on the next two seasons, so why keep players around any longer than they need to be? I will not trade them for less value than they are worth, but by the deadline in 2017 you will see pretty much every tradeable asset moved If the offers aren't sufficient to move Quintana, you don't move him, end of story. Frazier makes sense to take the best offer you can get and go from there, but the same thing goes for Robertson, maybe even moreso to hang on to him, as the value of a solid reliever has been shown to increase at the deadline, as opposed to during the offseason.
  13. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 02:09 AM) I do think the Sox will spend a ton of money in 2018 (hello new TV contract), but I bet it will be more on "2nd tier" guys like AJ Pollock, Charlie Blackmon, Garrett Richards, Patrick Corbin, one of two of those guys who are still really good players, but aren't going to be the superstars getting $200M+ deals. Or just simply offering extensions to our young core early like they did with Sale, Q, Eaton, Jones. A "ton?" I bet the buy low on a bunch of guys. They don't spend a ton in 2018. If they spend a ton in 2018, then I hate both the Eaton and Sale moves. They know what they're doing, or at least I am assuming they do at this point.
  14. We are talking about going into the 2018 season right? After a 100 loss 2017 season, where the Sox are still trying to figure out pieces - which will work and which will not? Maybe something that would be reasonable, but 10/$400 for Harper is out of the question, as is 8/$240 for Machado, though that latter is preferable. Also, if Machado hits free agency and signs elsewhere, I'll eat a hat. Any kind of hat. If they gave $150 million to Davis, losing the actual face of their franchise in Machado would ruin them. He'll be in Baltimore for a while.
  15. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 04:24 PM) If Sox could keep Ariel Nieto around all year in 2017 this should not be an issue. Well, for starters, Ariel Nieto has a lot of different faces and takes a lot of different selfies that end up on a Google Image search. Also, Adrian Nieto was a backup catcher. Finally, if Covey shows 2 pitches with major league movement, and he can soak innings, he's going to be a member of the White Sox in the long run.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 11:53 PM) Have a feeling that Quintana might end up being traded in June/July instead. Perhaps Hahn/KW will set out to find takers for Frazier and Cabrera first. Maybe Jennings, with the right offer. It's also obvious they hope to see rebounds from Robertson, Abreu, Lawrie and Garcia before moving them, not to mention Petricka/Putnam. Jones could go either way. Most seem to prefer trading Robertson first, then building up Jones' value by installing him as closer sometime between June and the beginning of August. Probably would mean holding onto Jones into the 2017-18 offseason, but lots of variables there in terms of performance for both guys. Not to mention the upcoming decision about what to do with Burdi for 2017. I will make a $1 bet that Robertson is no longer a member of the organization come February. I will make another $1 bet that it's to Washington.
  17. QUOTE (heirdog @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 11:48 PM) I'm having visions of Jeremy Reed and Ryan Sweeney right now... Guys from 15 years ago? Should you never trade for any highly thought of prospect? I've seen comparisons of Moncada to BJ/Melvin Upton and Byron Buxton, and that still excites the hell out of me. Upton was disappointing for his expectations and Buxton has been the same. They can still add a ton of value and are (possibly) very good players. Kyle Tucker would be a great get.
  18. I'm afraid I missed the late 80's Sox connection to this. How is this a classic caulfield post?

  20. QUOTE (beautox @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 12:59 AM) If the sox view their window as '19 to be a dark horse and '20 to take the central; trading Q to the Colorado makes a lot of sense. A package headlined by Brendan Rodgers, Riley Pint and Raimel Tapia seems like a great jumping off point. Q to Washington makes more sense. Colorado will always be buying low on pitching. Always.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 12:23 AM) And that is no fault of his. It's the fault of our front office and scouting departments and people who thought hiring Robin Ventura as manager was a good idea. Your post is kind of insulting to Sale. He's a World Series caliber player and it's not his fault our organization has been an utter joke since Ozzie's last year and a half. Timo Perez is a World Series champion.thus, a World Series caliber player OR Geoff Blum is a World Series champion, thus a World Series caliber player. OR What the f*** are you talking about? OR Ask Miami how their 4 year deal with Ozzie went. OR I cant wait to see who else the Sox get. Which one is most applicable?
  22. I haven't seen many games in person, but I've seen a few. The most memorable: -Mark Buehrle's first career start (2000, 3-2) -Buehrle duel Pavano in 2010 (2-1L. Paulie came up with a runner on 3rd with 1 out in the 9th, and struck out) -Chris Sale made the Twins look silly, Youkilis hit a donger, and the Sox won 6-1 Never felt a personal connection to Sale, like I have Abreu, even in their short time, but the dude is a great pitcher who wants to win. Glad he's in a position to do so. Sox may as well sign Buehrle next year.
