  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 10:25 AM) Didn't Carlos start killing the ball at this time last season too? I remember him going on a huge tear before the ASB and then going back to being bad after getting hurt against the Angels. Last year it was literally a 16 game stretch. April 1st through June 21st - .216/.307/.394/.702 June 22nd through July 11th - .367/.492/1.082/1.573 July 15th through the end - .241/.338/.419/.757 Thus far, it's been the complete opposite, where he's hit pretty much all year outside of like a 2 week stretch in May. There are going to be more streaks like that, but he's been great so far.
  2. Sorry, I too just have a tendency to be skeptical of what I hear when a person has an obvious bias against a player and I have heard quite literally the complete opposite about a player like less than 2 or 3 years ago from a source to whom I am much closer. I do appreciate any and all info you pass along.
  3. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 07:07 AM) No he is (has been since he was playing in Stanford, thats just his competitiveness).. but thanks for clearing that up with the other sentences. uhh...?
  4. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 11:55 AM) This is a little off topic, since he's in the majors now.... ...but going into this year, how highly regarded has Wilson Ramos been? Was one of the Twins top prospects before he was traded to the Nats. As I recall, there were no questions about his defense, but concerns about his bat. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 03:03 PM) It's good to see the White Sox made the right call giving Stefan Gartrell away for practically nothing. He's raking for Gwinnett. Carlos Quentin Dayan Viciedo Brent Lillibridge Mark Teahen Alex Rios Juan Pierre Alejandro De Aza Jordan Danks Lastings Milledge Those are players I would rather see play in a major league game in the outfield over Stefan Gartrell. The White Sox did him a favor, and if he can make it to the majors with another organization, then good for him. (I may have honestly missed someone. I don't care. That's how much I miss Stefan Gartrell) QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 03:06 PM) KW Jr. now batting 7th, still not low enough in the order. Do you not like Ken Williams Jr? /obvious? --- I had a friend who watched him play in Omaha for Wichita State and he said he was by far the fastest player on the field. That team included Andy Dirks, who stole 55 of 68 bases in the minors, as well as a few other players who are in major league organizations. If you do believe he is really, actually, honestly that slow, I want to see a bit of video proof. KW Sr. had 8 triples with a .218 BA and a .121 Iso at the MLB level to go along with 29 triples and 142 steals in 208 attempts in the minors (I get it, bad percentage - nobody gave a s*** about that back then). Oh, and another son (I think he has 3, though I may be mistaken), Kyle, was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers to be pretty much a kick returner. Mendel tells us that genes are transferred from parent to child. Unless Williams Jr is hiding something injury wise (which is certainly possible - I don't think he is the most durable player in the world), me thinks either you are lying or the dude can't get out of the box.
  5. DSL White Sox beat the DSL Padres 16-10. The PBP appears to be clear, but there are is no box score recorded. Anybody who wants to pick out the highlights, feel free. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...og&did=milb
  6. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 06:41 AM) Carlos is literally the best and worst player for an organization to have. The best, well because his talent is immense and when he is healthy, he is one of the top 10 hitters in the game. But the worst because he is so injury prone. It's really hard to commit four years, $50 million for a guy who has played in 130 games, 99 games and 131 games in the last three years. You have to feel like if we commit big money to him, he will be constantly injured. But if we let him walk, that's what he suddenly remains healthy. Gonna be quite the conundrum, especially when we will have some big, dead money on the roster. Well it's not only that he's injury prone, but that in those years where he has been injured, he's been about 30-50% less effective. It's one thing to trade for or sign an injury prone player who is going to be super effective, no matter how often he plays; it's another thing entirely to see said player be ill effective coming off of injury. I'd never realized how similar a hitter Nelson Cruz is to Carlos Quentin, but they are. It seemed to me that Cruz was able to still produce like a crazy SOB when coming off of injury, but his .835 OPS this year suggests otherwise. On top of that, he doesn't actually 'take' pitches as well as Quentin either, so his OBP takes a hit in that regard as well. Either way, Quentin can put up MVP caliber numbers, but has struggled to. My biggest fear with him is taking a stray fastball to the jaw. I hope and pray that it doesn't occur.
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 06:14 AM) Didn't Devon White kick our asses in the '93 ALCS? Yes. Thankfully, I was not on the '93 White Sox, or my 6 year old ass would have been in extreme pain. (think I was a Twins fan at that point still) If it makes you feel better, he killed the Phillies too to a lesser extent. '93 ALCS - .444/.464/.667/1.131 '93 WS - .292/.393/.708/1.101 Had 28 PAs in both
  8. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 12:11 AM) I'm starting to think he's a reliever. Never occurred to me, due in large part because I love him, but it really makes sense. Bell has suggested that he tries to strike everyone out, something they've tried him to get away from - I'm sure only to try to get him to stick as a starter - but that does sound like a bonafide reliever to me. You DO want relievers to try to strike everyone out (sort of), so he absolutely has the mentality for that and, with regards to everything I've read, the stuff to do so as well. He is definitely worthy of a promotion, so hopefully that happens soon. I would imagine, barring injuries, it happens in the second half. With his numbers, he reminds me just a bit of the one and only DLS. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 12:19 AM) Sorry. When I think Ks, I think Dunn. It's just natural. STOP. Think of Mark Reynolds. Or Jose Hernandez. Think of home runs for Adam Dunn. Perhaps there is an osmosis or some other transferable effect of some sort towards hitters, and the more you think of their good characteristics, the more likely they are to come. Or think of K's. I don't believe in any of that jinx/voodoo/mumbo jumbo s*** anyways.
  9. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 02:51 PM) Devon White works for the White Sox organization as a minor league base running instructor. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 09:42 AM) I will say, regardless of my actual feelings for the pick, that he better develop defensively. Naturally, the predictions/projections to players come from coaches within the system, but White was a .263/.319/.419/.739 and 98 OPS+ player. B-R has him at 4 years with a WAR at or above 5, which makes him among the best players in the league that year. That was, for the most part, predicated upon the fact that he played a great CF and was average to good offensively. yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah
  10. Carlos Quentin had a sizable lead in the majors in extra base hits heading into tonight's game with 35. The next closest in either league is Adrian Gonzalez at 32. No one with 30 extra base hits had one in the AL tonight, which means that Quentin's 37 extra base hits are now 5 more than anybody else in the AL. His Iso after tonight's game is .325. That is second in the majors to Bautista's .372. Given 600 plate appearances, Quentin is on pace to hit 47 doubles, 40 homers, and himself 31 times. Given 650, those numbers increase to 51 doubles, 43 homers, and 33 HBP. Carlos good at baseball.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 07:41 AM) This is lottery ticket day, especially with the demise of draft and follow. Still the stupidest thing ever
  12. QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 02:53 AM) Yes, I meant sprint obviously YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 02:11 PM) Some town in SW Iowa is being evacuated due to an earthen dam breaching. That is really scary stuff. The whole purpose of having dams in this situation is to cause controlled flooding. If the dam can't hold the water back, then that town is in some very serious trouble. A few images and a video... Garrison Dam opened for the first time ever. It's actually gorgeous. Wish it didn't mean what it did. Couple of a whirlpool/vortex that has formed north of Pierre. This is the legion cabin right off the river in Pierre. There is usually a huge beach and tons of people and lots of beer to be had. Atleast there's still a little beach left. Ampitheater in Steamboat Park in Pierre. There is normally a 3 foot jump from the edge of the stage to the ground. Gives a whole new meaning to the term crowd surfing. Just by the spillway at the Oahe Dam in Pierre. It's hard to make out, but the water is rushing out at 140K cfs in this video (assuming it shows, I don't know if it will for everybody). 140 cfs is more than a million gallons of water per second. (hoping it works) http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=...34&comments
  14. QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 03:24 PM) Why do you insist on giving season grades and harping on being back in the loss column 1/3 into the season? Baseball is a marathon, not a race.. Actually, a marathon is a race. And baseball is too. Baseball is a marathon, not a sprint.
  15. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 11:01 PM) It never a priority in this organization. Yeah it is, Morel was fast tracked to the bigs because of his defense. They understand that half of the game is catching the ball, and finding and developing someone who can do it really well would be a great thing. Also, perhaps I am thinking in correctly, but I didn't think you got a draft pick the following year if it was a supplemental pick. If that is the case, then they better sign him.
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 11:24 AM) I would f***ing destroy those mofos in bowling. Someone buy me a plane ticket. I've already sent the challenge.
  17. I would f***ing destroy those mofos in bowling. Someone buy me a plane ticket.
  18. If anything, the Sox are going to need Rios to produce like a 4th outfielder. A .554 OPS is not going to do that. Rios is a giant blackhole right now other than the fact that he can play a passable (and in fact average) CF. Viciedo fills a lot of needs, but there's quite literally no room for him with the roster as currently constructed. In other words, WHERE WOULD HE PLAY? (I'd STILL play him in LF with Pierre as the backup, but then you're left with Rios and that albatross of a contract)
  19. Why have said players fallen? Has to be signability, right? No doubt the Rays clean house today anyways. Knowing what they have in place, they reach with their own second rounder (I imagine they have it still) and take high upside players they can sign with their other 28 picks.
  20. Hope he doesn't mind playing with bruised ribs
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 10:32 AM) Big picture... Seriously. Sort of like, you don't throw anybody under the bus until they're already dead. Totally just made that up, but it makes a lot of sense. If this fails, the Sox are going to sell off and get rid of a lot of pieces. That includes coaches and managers and front office personnel. The only two I want the Sox to keep are Cooper and Hahn in whatever roles possible.
  22. I love Peavy to death, but that is a move that I at least research to the fullest. Their contracts are as so Peavy - '11 - $16 mill, '12 - $17 mil, '13 - $22 mill, $4 mill team buyout Zambrano - '11 - $17.875 mill, '12 - $18 mill, '13 - $19.25 mill vesting option Zambrano's option vests with a top 2 CY finish this year, a top 4 CY finish next year, or if he is healthy at the end of next season. The only reason I don't make that deal is that vesting option. Buying out Peavy and saving $18 million is worth it in its own right. The Cubs would be the ones who would have to include something additional, which makes me think that there is no possible way that something along those lines works out. Now, if I believe that Zambrano can be effective in the AL? (I do) Then yes, I make it If I believe that Peavy will not have any sort of sustainable health? (I honestly do) Then yes, I make it If I believe that Kenny Williams is going to be running my franchise next year, let alone in 2013 or 2014? Ehhhhhhh.......
  23. QUOTE (Bighurt52235 @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 08:41 PM) Sounds kinda like us. And the Twins and the Indians.
  24. I think Mike Morse is a great story, personally. Dude was busted twice for steroids in the minors before they started handing out the 50/100/Life penalties and has worked his way up since that point. May still be dirty, but with something else. May never know. May or may not give credence to Bautista and HGH. May never know.
  25. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 10:10 AM) How can an owner say he is satisfied with his GM/Manager when his $125-million team is under .500? What else is he going to say?
