  1. Don't even know why the Padres need him. They have 1B 3B and 2B set. I guess to split ABs with Voit at DH...and added roster insurance since Voit gets injured pretty frequently.
  2. Don't write him off too soon. Everyone said the same thing about Jorge Soler and he enjoyed a bit of a career resurgence.
  3. Did anyone confirm if it's $3.5 million regardless/guaranteed if he is recalled or if that amount is prorated based on his time on the active roster....basically $650-700k per month?
  4. Rodriguez obviously looks legit. JP Crawford looks so much better, as well. But yeah, similar success since the late 90s early 2000s for both, then a wasteland up until recently for Sox. Long playoff droughts. All things considered, fairly similar payrolls...although Seattle has run some fairly large ones over the last twenty years despite disappointing results. Seattle has their own market, one of the hippest/trendiest areas of the US with tons of corporate sponsorship possible and a better stadium experience overall, but not the massive advantage it was 15 or so years ago for the M's.
  5. The Astros are on a tear and Twins now have/had 13 on the IL...maybe 11 with Arraez and Bundy back. Missing Baldelli too. All that said, these next three weeks will tell a ton about the Central. Sonny Gray vs. Civale tmrw.
  6. Ray is going to turn into a pretty significant bust by the end of his deal, it seems.
  7. Well, we do have an opening for a right handed reliever who throws 77-79 mph as a change of pace and has a proclivity for jumping into the protective netting on almost any occasion.
  8. Agreed with everything, might want to change banker to barker…although JR might be a little of both at heart.
  9. That's actually great news...as long as the Astros win. Because they're going to have to use up even more of their bullpen to cover the remainder of the game, rather than just taking the L and going into the final game of the series.
  10. You just basically stole Hahn's trademark line for why they're not making any significant moves at the trade deadline. Send on along to Scott Merkin for a "puff piece" about how much stronger this team will be in the 2nd half.
  11. Maybe 1 in 4 or 1 in 3 odds. As long as he has a strong base for hitting with his lower body. And can stay off the IL for the remainder of the season.
  12. Wonder how long the Twins are going to keep this delay going with the Astros leading 5-1 in the Top of the 4th and not an official game yet...
  13. I'm sure half of this thread is talking about the likelihood of him DHing full-time versus any appreciable defensive benefit of Vaughn being out there instead (not in evidence so far in 2022 yet).
  14. Back down to .140 again. Unsustainable for anyone not named Yasmani Grandal, mid 2021 version.
  15. Best under the radar offseason moves https://www.mlb.com/news/under-the-radar-2022-offseason-trades-and-signings Many familiar names, starting with Eduardo Escobar and his not so obvious contributions to the Mets. Also, Michael Wacha and Heaney probably belong here but injured.
  16. That’s far too logical. Not to mention that the Yankees, Blue Jays and Angels have seemingly gotten much stronger. The Astros so far are getting better results with Jeremy Pena and Verlander as well. Obviously a lot of things can and will change, but the White Sox have to know their “veteran group” of guys in their 30’s like Lynn, Hendriks, Abreu, Grandal, Keuchel…with even more added this offseason…is going to hit their expiration dates soon. Meanwhile, the young position core is pretty much injured or stagnating other than Robert and (hopefully) Vaughn. So a LOT rides on the arms of the starting pitching staff.
  17. I would argue your likelihood of surviving in Silicon Valley, coding, CS, e-sports, etc., after age 50-55…pretty much slim and none. Maybe business and finance, but how many 45+ quants are thriving? In the executive suite, sure, there’s always going to be a handful. Politics, sure…tenure and gerrymandering have their perks, along with name recognition building over time. But look at the trend with GM’s/Asst. Gm’s in MLB the last 20-30 years…must be in 20s, 30s, 40s. Same with most new NFL coaching hires in the last decade. There are a always recycled dinosaurs with plenty of experience, but few guys now have the energy to work 14-18 hour days anymore. Coach K is one notable exception in college BB, but even thst finally caught up with him causing numerous health problems. Urban Meyer is another guy who comes to mind. Sports is for young people now, When I was growing up, lots of players made it to 35 and even 40 or beyond like Ryan, Jamie Moyer and Vizquel. Those exceptions are increasingly rare today. All that said, the White Sox are one of the most loyal organizations in professional sports and routinely have guys with careers well into their 50’s, with quite a few 60’s and 70’s…at least moreso than the typical team.
  18. Do you really believe that length will stand up to appeals/lawsuits?
  19. Wonder if Allen Thomas will be called to testify? I would imagine that the convenient narrative that asserted Hermie was the greatest (actually a competitive advantage for the Sox versus other teams) and that both Ball and Thomas were responsible for most of the health problems is not exactly holding up well now. At least not based on the impressive spate of injuries the Sox have suffered over the last two seasons.
  20. Too scary to be in agreement with KyYle, but no choice on this one…yikes. (Although I do think looking back retrospectively we reached a bit of a premature conclusion on Bauer. MLB still doesn’t even know what to do, so they keep on punting the problem down the road…a proverbial hot potato.)
  21. So your advice is that everyone needs to remain neutral...and in all likelihood never know the details or whether Hahn is being (rightfully or out of loyalty again) shielded by JR?
  22. They certainly had to have thought this through carefully and considered the possibility of having to come forward into the public eye...
  23. Have any employees in baseball who potentially lost positions in the industry due to Covid won lawsuits? The White Sox are theoretically a quasi public entity due to subsidies from the State of Illinois..
  24. With the Supreme Court's current make up, that might be a much easier case to win...if you can get the case out of Illinois somehow. Discrimination over conscientious objection to unproven (over the longer term) and still/just EUA vaccines.
  25. Did Dave Wilder ever file a lawsuit against the team based on sexual orientation discrimination? He was actually protected until the very end by KW at risk to his career and reputation.
