  1. McCann Walkoff Magic in Baltimore. Cost Ragans a great start.
  2. Always the opposite with Birmingham helping pitchers and hurting hitters unless they're Thomas and Venture quality. Really need to move back the fences or do something...there's band box and whatever this constitutes. Basically like these O's playing at Little K outside Kauffman.
  3. That didn't last long. 10-8 Norfolk. Stowers es en fuego. 12--8. Horn getting lit up. Knights looking to match 1-4 Sox record.
  4. Maybe they have a slow gun but that was the consistent reading down to the decimal points at milb gamecast feed.
  5. And Sosa defense takes away. Norfolk offense looking like Oregon State's in the last two years of Nicky Two Strikes Madrigal. Seven Charlotte pitchers now with 6.75 plus ERA's. Make that eight including Nastrini.
  6. 7-4 lead one-third of the way through. With Norfolk offense and Sox pitching this one might last forever. SportsGuy enjoying this one more than the major league O's against Ragans.
  7. Nastrini 91-92 tonight. One pitch at 93. Lenyn Sosa making a bid to replace Shewmake...
  8. It should also be noted that when the Twins were blocked in every direction trying to get their new stadium...no's in every direction until Hennepin County stepped in. There's always another county or state, right? But we most definitely don't want the condition attached that JR and son couldn't sell or move the team until 2040 (that condition placed on the Pohlad family in Minn) because that future right now seems even more depressing to consider than the team actually moving. At any rate... So here we are now with the Royals/White Sox featuring quite similar stadiums...as well as target dates to end their leases...White Sox hilariously modeled on the bungling KC Way. God knows how this all shakes out on the next five years or so. A's/Vegas/Oakland Nashville Rays/Marlins, etc. Manfred will be kept pretty pretty busy.
  9. Kroenke/LA as well. Thought this pretty well encapsulated the feelings at Royals' Review. I never thought this would pass and I am pleased that it got soundly trounced, both for Jackson Countians, and for taxpayers in other places to give a warning shot across the bow to any other owners of sports franchises in other cities contemplating attempting to fleece the taxpayers wherever they might be located. I was never able to envision this passing when the initiative in 2006 barely did, as well as the other one that day failing, for a facility the county already owned. Throw in that the need for a new facility is completely dubious, at best, and that they used made up rationale with no engineering studies to support that complete nonsense. Or that the Royals tacitly threatened to use eminent domain to see this through if they had to. The Royals really need to get a copy of and thoroughly read Norman Vincent Peale's "How to Win Friends and Influence People". Even if they had conducted this in as forthright a manner as they could, this was always going to be a very tough sell no matter what. They got what they deserved, given the way that they conducted this endeavor, which was a living breathing self-advertisement for why their franchise is arguably currently one of the worst in all of professional sports. This is but the first battle here and this is not over. I remain steadfastly opposed to giving public money to sports franchises under any set of circumstances. If they try to put lipstick on this pig and try again, it looks to me like the citizenry pretty clearly sees the pig that's underneath, already. Thank you, Jackson Countians, for repudiating these grifters and seeing through their complete line of BS. The Royals can spend their own goddamn money if they want this so bad. If it made any real economic sense, they'd be doing that with absolutely no qualms whatsoever. It doesn't, and they thought the voters were stupid sheep. They thought wrong. A final note, one of the funniest things about this whole thing is the amount of money they spent trying to get this passed that was basically just pissed away because they are freaking morons. They might as well just had a bonfire with that pile of cash. The whole undertaking deserves it's own special page at https://darwinawards.com/
  10. Only two hitters above 650 ops for Charlotte. Nastrini getting killed. This Norfolk squad destroys the Sox lineup if you remove Luis Robert, Jr.
  11. https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb-power-rankings-dodgers-and-braves-looking-as-dominant-as-expected-so-far-this-season-182620021.html #30 Crochet mentioned as the primary reason to be excited about this team. 30. Chicago White Sox, 0-4 "No need to pile on the team ranked last, especially when being bad is essentially the plan as Chicago bottoms out and tries to rebuild in full. On a positive note, Garrett Crochet looked marvelous on Opening Day and could give Sox fans something to look forward to every five days or so. Otherwise? It’s going to be a long season on the South Side."
  12. That’s why my original post posited at least 2-3 months as a starter. Some want one full year…others, waiting until the end of 2025 when it will inevitably be too late. Timing is everything with this one. Who else on the current roster has that potential to be a star…other than Robert, Jr.? Basically there’s no one, unless you’re still willing to hold on to the original Kopech hype from 2016-17.
  13. They don’t call it the Show Me state for no reason…in this case, the private and ownership contributions. 58-42% vote against a veritable football dynasty/Hunt family. Although it would have been closer to 50/50 with the Royals stripped out of the package.
  14. Every GM/team in baseball would want Crochet on their team…potential-wise. Only one franchise out of 30 could even tolerate Clevinger on their roster.
  15. How much cash are you willing to eat to move Benintendi?
  16. When they just gave an “outsider” in Fedde nearly half that amount for two years? If the Rockies can give Tovar as much as $84 million…heck, didn’t even Myles Straw get more than that way back when?
  17. https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/another-multibillion-dollar-deal-completely-171436891.html For private equity firms, sports teams present a massive growth opportunity considering many of their valuations have grown well above 10% over the last year. The value of the average NBA team grew 35% in 2023 versus the previous year, according to Forbes. But leagues have put a cap on the ownership percentage that these firms are allowed to have in order to ensure that they cannot have controlling stake. For example, the NBA allows for a single private equity firm to own a maximum of 20% of a team, and a team is not allowed to sell more than 30% of its stake to private equity. These firms are actually allowed to own more than one team per sports league, though only the MLB allows for a single private equity firm to have stake in an unlimited. The NBA and NHL cap firms at five teams, MLS caps firms at four, and NWSL limits ownership to three franchises. The NFL has still not allowed private equity to enter the sport — and league owners pushed back a discussion on whether to change the rule just last week. However, that discussion is expected to be brought up again later this year, according to Bloomberg.
  18. Yeah, an A level (potentially CFer) prospect, very toolsy, surprisingly good eye and strong OBP compared to what we normally see in young/raw Sox prospects...many are speculating he will be considered the "jewel" of the trade 2-3 years from now. BIggest questions are how much power he will hit for and whether he can stick in CF as he gets older and puts on weight/muscle over time.
  19. Soler managed it just fine...but obviously two totally different kinds of hitters. It certainly depressed Burger's homer count in the second half as well.
  20. Those three teams (from thread title)...along with the A's (1.1%), are the ONLY ones with less than 10% odds of making the playoffs as of current moment. Marlins 11.1% Angels 14.6% Royals 14.4% 1-5 Astros still are predicted for first place in the AL West, for example.
  21. If not as a starter, something like Andrew Miller at the height of his multi-inning powers...
  22. As an exercise in roster building in Getz's shoes and also because there eventually has to be a core or foundation. It's certainly not going to be adding today's equivalent of Theo adding Jon Lester.
  23. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/march-madness-iowas-win-over-lsu-draws-123m-views-to-smash-record-for-most-watched-ncaaw-game-014731830.html Would have been 15-18 million on ABC....plus it was Monday night vs. Sunday afternoon or evening. They apparently didn't want to preempt American Idol.
  24. After Montgomery, who are the #2/#3 options for an (early) extension, if you were the GM? Robert, Jr., is NOT an option for this exercise (likely in futility).
  25. Be prepared for attendance numbers in the four digits, then. 12,300 tonight. That puts their season ticket base in the 11-12,000 range, SOMEWHERE. Unless there were an inordinate amount of single game buying AND especially determined Braves' fans in attendance...despite the miserable weather.
