What happened?

The number of pitchers who have signed really late in ST or into the season and had decent seasons...seems to be about a 1/4 or 1/5 chance it goes well. Seems to be even tougher for hitters these days to ever get their timing and swing down with so many max velo pitchers out there.

Well, at least we don't have to waste a bunch of time speculating on whether Clevinger will bring any type of trade return this June/July.

A conundrum if ever there was one...

How about Baldwin Taylor? That sounds a lot more like a generic White Sox player who's instantly forgettable. Brooks Taylor sounds too much like a golfer or Indiana high school BB player.

In a PERFECT world was the key part of that. The reality is that it's probably a 2-3% chance of coming close to happening...Baldwin has good speed, but nothing close to elite speed. And Figgins had a lot of XB pop for a little guy. Then we can try another comp that might be better, Chris Taylor. Although Taylor strikes out more and also has/had a lot more pop in his bat, but more in terms of his positional flexibility.

In a perfect world, he's something like a Chone Figgins/Whit Merrifield hybrid. Just think that it's hard to project anything with minor leaguers until you see multiple seasons of sustained success. He's never going to be a power hitter, but if he can maintain a 750-800 OPS at the major league level, that would be incredibly valuable...mixed in with let's say 12-18 stolen bases.
