  1. Is EA making an MVP baseball game this next year? They're allowed to again now right? I miss the days of MVP Baseball 2005.
  2. I'm still scratching my head as to how someone with the name "Lance Broadway" could not be a success in major league baseball.
  3. Maybe we can get Larussa in here as the 3rd base coach. He has some experience.
  4. When Buehrle won his first, AJ told him he'll keep winning it till he retires.
  5. I hear Joe Borchard is available. He's got some pop.
  6. QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 1, 2011 -> 10:18 AM) Can't believe Mark Buehrle is only a Type B Free Agent. Does someone have an exxplanation? We love him more than the rest of the world.
  7. QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 1, 2011 -> 10:21 AM) I am underwhelmed by our two acquisitions from the Marlins. And, if we keep them, they are on the 40 Man roster, right? What? I think most people were just happy to get anything. I know I was. No they will be in the minors unless the Sox choose otherwise.
  8. What about Martinez makes everybody want him? How do we know he's a sabermetrics guy? I feel like everybody wants to ride this idea, how do we even know much about him as a head manager?
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 04:59 PM) I nominate Bill Pullman's character from 'Independence Day'. This is the funniest thing I've ever read on this site. For whatever reason that really made me laugh.

    BMR

I've read that the typical BMR for a person with my body (26 years old, 180 LBs, 6'0") is that I burn about 1900 calories a day doing nothing. Since eating 5-6 meals a day will increase the amount of calories my body burns daily, how big a of a difference would this make to eat that often? Would I be burning 2500 calories a day instead of 1900? More? What if I eat 1-2 meals a day? Would it go down all the way to 1400 calories a day or less? Just curious for someone who is educated on this kind of thing.
  11. Danks is just not as good as Weaver. But I don't think Danks best days are behind him. When his ERA this season is inflated by 1 or 2 horrible performances, he's clearly as good as his median ERA, not his average. Wins have very little to do with how good a pitcher is. I expect to see Danksy getting a 4 year 58 million dollar deal on the open market. We simply can't afford that (I assume). Our best bet is to trade him in the off season, as much as I'd hate to see him go.
  12. QUOTE (Rooftop Shots @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 11:00 PM) It's quite obvious that Dunn and Rios are probably the biggest contributors as to why we are not leading the division. There are stats for everything nowadays, but...... I was wondering if there is any sort of individual stat for each player (throughout the course of the year) that states how many men have been on base in scoring position when he was at bat, and how many times the batter failed / succeeded in getting a hit while they had the runners in the scoring position. I wanted to see how many times Rios and Dunn have faired in this position and stat compared to everyone else on the team. Thanks Rios is 16 for 96 with RISP and 0 for 10 with bases loaded. Dunn is 13 for 93 with RISP. Awful on both ends. You can see RISP stats on the player's yahoo profile under situational stats.
  13. I've never felt that the manager can help a team that much. Just hurt them. Lineups and in game managerial decisions are typically pretty simple, there is usually just one clear answer. You just a need a baseball smart person who uses his head, not his ego to make decisions and your fine. Those guys are all over baseball.
  14. I will never forget how much I hated Andy Gonzalez. Although he wasn't making millions, I will never feel as angry toward anyone as I did him. Or moreso that the fact that he was being played regularly.
  15. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 07:59 PM) Shane Lindsay continues to have the most hilarious season line. Hilarious?
  16. QUOTE (Ranger @ Apr 18, 2011 -> 01:14 PM) Um, no, I'm not. You, then, are just unable to tell the difference between being a "homer" and being level-headed. Certainly, I want the Sox to win, as do the rest of you. But, I'm not stupid and I'm not blind. If I think improvement will come, it's because there is reason to believe improvement will come. It's not just blind idiocy. You see, there is a giant difference between being pessimistic and realistic. Far too many fans think they're one in the same, but they are not. Thinking the worst possible outcome will always occur is not being realistic. Isn't that the truth? Thank you. Like I said, read above. It just isn't true and if that's what you hear, you're not listening. The truth is that anyone with my job would automatically be labeled as such no matter what they said. I don't think everything is great with the White Sox, and I've pointed those things out a number of times. But I also don't look at this team as if it exists in a vacuum. I know they're flawed, but I know their competitors in the division are also flawed. Yes, I think the bullpen will improve, but I'm not just pulling that out of the ether. I think they'll improve because their 'pen isn't lined with bums. This aren't the days of Bukvich, Day, Prinz, and Myers. They have 4 solid arms at the back end, and eventually, I think they will smooth things out. And I think they'll do it in plenty of time. I think the defense will also improve, too. Why? Because the infield was pretty good last year, and now they've added Morel who's a little more sure-handed than Teahen. Rios will always be good, Pierre's errors are not characteristic of his career, and Quentin isn't bad enough to bring down the entire outfield. The offense is what it is. A pretty good lineup, not perfect, but there really isn't a whole lot of reason to spend much time worrying about it. The Starters have already been solid, and unless they wear down by August, I suspect they will continue to be, for the most part. Now, is that really optimism? It's not. It's reasoned expectation. It's not really a "hopeful" thing to suggest all of that will play out. It's actually reasonable to think it will. Honestly, Chris is very rational. I cannot imagine how awful half of his callers or anyone calling him a homer would be in fantasy baseball. It is not that difficult to understand that the baseball season goes through september not the end of the week.
  17. QUOTE (zenryan @ Apr 5, 2011 -> 07:10 PM) Just love how the free preview isnt showing tonight's game. Lovely... But the background music is so peaceful!
  18. Mayo. Reminds me of a different whitish creamy substance that has no business near my mouth. I also hated Lord of the Rings. I fell asleep through the first one, couldn't get through any more of the others. Harry Potter's stupid too.
  19. I found out today that the UPS driver who delivers to my company was Ribbie. Either that or he likes lying about the fact that he was.
  20. A long battle has finally been won. I never thought this day would come.
  21. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 11:29 AM) PK is the man and the team MVP Fixed.
  22. Has anyone ever noticed at Sox games that Konerko comes out on defense chewing a new piece of gum every inning and throws it in the grass into shallow right field before play starts? My Dad pointed it out to me and sure enough, every inning he throws it in the grass. Anyone notice this? Anyone else ever notice anything that you really don't see on TV, but at the games you notice? I'm sure most people know at games, the attendance poll answer is the highest possible number that they list 99% of the time.
  23. 25, I have the baby face that makes me look like I'm 19, but in the last year I started loosing my hair, so now I just look F**d up.
