  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 01:23 PM) Have we actually seen him be effective against guys just because they aren't throwing high heat? It seems every memory in my head of Beckham hitting a HR or a rope into the OF is from a hanging curveball or slow slider or basically anything but a fastball.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 01:22 PM) Beckham should get some good swings today Ah, very true. He loves hitting that loopy s***.
  3. I can't believe Pierre hit it as far as he did after he completely stopped his load, and then just poked at the pitch.
  4. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 12:15 PM) Morel is terrible too and what's maddening is they don't have to play him because of his contract. They're going to lose this division in part because they stuck too long with Pierre and Morel. Sure, if you don't pay any attention to defense.
  5. Never thought the Hawks would be players in the FA market. Didn't even think we would be able to to re-sign Sharp AND all the other guys like Frolik and Stalberg, and Brower (obviously not anymore). This is awesome. I am in the group that thinks Campbell was underrated defensively, but he was never worth $7M a year. All this cap room and we already have our goalie situation locked up? I'm f***in' pumped.
  6. Wilkins is about 35-40 pts in AVG away from being a breakout player for us.
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 02:49 PM) It's some dumb eco blog. It's not like they have reporters to go out and interview people. Well then I fault you for not posting the original article. http://vegetarianstar.com/2011/06/23/yanke...ic-glove-video/
  8. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 12:19 PM) Steve said everything that needs to be said. Yeah, basically.
  9. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 10:27 AM) This makes me happy for obvious reasons. Yankees Pitcher Is First In MLB To Ditch Leather For A Synthetic Glove And the article shows a picture of Yankee stadium and not his glove? Umm.....ok?
  10. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 09:09 AM) I just watched the last 2 episodes last night and I don't really get all the hate this show is getting. Simmons goes a little too far here. Really? You're going to question AMC for this? Ridiculous. If I'm AMC i'm laughing all the way to the bank. This show got more people talking than any marketing campaign could. They'll absolutely get a bunch of viewers back next year to find out who killed her and why Holder (i'm guessing the most popular character in the show) did what he did. I mean, overall the show sucked, especially compared to the Mad Men/Breaking Bad's of the world. Way too many red herrings, way too many boring and unnecessary scenes (the whole Sonoma thing, the whole Bennett thing, the whole Larson family thing). And you had to know that someone in the campaign was involved (especially the main candidate) since they spent SO much time on that boring s***. If anything my complaint of the show would be that it was boring as hell with bad writing, not that they somehow strung me along only to pull the rug at the last second. And I can already guess that next year it'll take 6 episodes to find the "real" killer, and then it'll take the remaining season (or more) to find him/her. Snooze. According to the interview with the creator, the killer will be 100% revealed, and the case will be closed, in addition to a new murder and storyline all within S2. So I am thinking it will end 2-3 episodes into the season.
  11. Too much drama for a bunch of sports guys, IMO.
  12. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 12:39 AM) I don't know what to make of this, but I find it discouraging to read. Follow him to read his tweets... Kyle Colligan's Twitter Can you just post examples?
  13. I find it hard to complain that your #8 and #9 hitters are not setting the world on fire. Yeah, Beckham slumping again really hurts, but people need to lay off someone like Morel who was not even a blip on the radar coming in to 2010, and is acceptable on offense while providing great defense. Look at almost any lineup in baseball, and you will find at least 1 or 2 "black holes" toward the bottom of the lineup.
  14. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 12:45 AM) Typically your reasoning would be sound but, having spent 8 years reading this board, it's different now, and the internet was just as knee-jerk 8 years ago as it is today. Jake Peavy says he's willing to pitch from the bullpen if that's what's asked of him and there are 4-5 posters who present and control the narrative that his comments meant that he knows he's washed up and can no longer start. Really? Those are the fans that this board used to make fun of, the drunken idiots who call into post-game shows or post on the MLB boards. It's what differentiated Soxtalk from other sources...there was always reasonable conversation about both positives and negatives but, no matter what, it was from folks who enjoyed talking baseball...not a gaggle of idiots who think it's pretty badass to be contrarians. What differentiates Soxtalk from other places, like SouthSideSox, is that I haven't been banned multiple times from Soxtalk yet.
  15. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 10:53 PM) Aww, don't go away, but please try to be less defensive. Really, some of us would miss you. Anyway, I'm thinking a line like this from the AJ v PV thread was a more likely inspiration for the warning than anything you did today: "I'm not sure if you have made a meaningful contribution in any thread since you've been here." Of course, I could be wrong/missed a few posts. Hey, what do you know, I just found out that post you are referring to was directed towards me! Haha, thanks IlliniKrush!
  16. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 12:07 AM) Props to the site's owner. Honestly, I've found myself visiting WSI more this season because this board has become overbearingly negative. If I wanted to read nothing but s*** talking about the Sox I'd go to a MIN, DET, or CHC board. I come to Soxtalk to both commiserate and celebrate with fellow Sox fans, but there's no celebrating here. Hell, it seems 1/2 the time I get on here 30 mins after a win there's no "White Sox Winner" thread. It's never been this way before and I welcome Jason's efforts to restore what was at one time, in my opinion, the one and only White Sox forum worth visiting. To be fair, I don't see why this has to be the message board version of a Rongey post-game talk. I think this board swings to extreme highs and lows depending on the team. When we suck, people go over the cliff. When this team is hot, people think out s*** doesn't stink. It's pretty knee-jerk, but that's just how the internet is. The ones who are the level headed get paid for their comments.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 11:58 PM) I don't even know what WSI is. I don't even know what constant hyperbole and talk in absolutes means.
  18. Gave Louie another shot tonight. Still don't get it. I think I may have smirked once at the scene where his sister farts.
  19. Viciedo 1/4, 2 K. Saladino 2/2, 2 2B so far. Wilkins is 1/2. Ravelo is 0/2, RBI Petricka 1 IP, 2 K.

  21. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 10:02 PM) Brian, you're wrong on this one, AJ's actions are indefensible. I rip Peavy as much as the next guy, but this isn't about how he was performing, or AJ backers vs Peavy backers based on anything in the past. Here's what happened, I posted this in the game thread: When Peavy gives up that last hit, as Soriano scores you can briefly see AJ give the "get him out of here" heave-ho sign with his right arm and his right pointer finger extended. Then as he walks towards the mound, he's staring into the dugout just waiting, begging for the change. He basically showed Peavy up, and Peavy saw it. It started before they were both on the mound and Ozzie made the change. Can't really fault Peavy, that's not a good move by a catcher regardless of whether he should be taken out, you just don't do that. AJ needs to take a lesson from Jonathan Toews IMO.
  22. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 08:16 AM) I don't remember how the first episode started in terms of a "previously seen on". Basically the series begins with Henry planning a war with France and he soon meets the Boleyn girls. It's kind of confusing if you're not familiar with the history behind it but by mid-way through the first season it makes sense. Personally, I loved the series. I've written several papers on the Tudors when I was in school and read several books on the family and period so I'm pretty familiar with them and do know a lot about them. The series obviously romanticizes certain things, portrays rumors as fact and isn't always accurate of course, but as a show goes, it does a pretty good job of sticking with history and facts for the most part. That's why they are so fascinating to me, they can provide a great drama series without the need for much alteration. Stick with the series, you'll enjoy it. Season 2 was the best of the four. I wish they continued the series with his children, as that easily could have provided 3-4 more seasons and have been just as good. Ok, so Netflix must have misnamed the seasons/episodes. Will this sucks, guess I won't be watching the show on Netflix until they fix that.
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 11:12 AM) Season 2 of Louie premiers tonight. Man, that show was so disappointing for me. Louie CK is my 2nd fav. comedian, I love every standup he does, but his show is not funny at all IMO. It's all "reaction" driven awkward moments. One character says something, and he just gives them an odd silence and a weird look. It's all awkward moments as the punchline.
