the likely scenario is they would just release him. a player can't be suspended or "sent home" for an extended time without a reason. and if they can free up a roster spot as a result, they would do so. as long as he gets paid the amount of money he is contractually owed, and is not denied the ability to work, the union wont interfere. that's what the dodgers did with bauer after his MLB suspension was terminated.

The naming rights money did not increase. US Cellular paid a buy out fee, and that reduced the payments from the new sponsor. That's state money. But the deal that GR underpaid was the partnership with the team directly. The sox never got the money from the naming rights. The only brokered the deal.

I'm not sure what you can get for a "presented by" sponsorship, but likely in the 500k-1 million range per year. enough for maybe a rookie or bench guy. the 7-11 deal for the game times was 500k a year for three years.
