  1. QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 11:43 AM) Sox need to trade MiGo and get Covey back in the rotation. 100% agree. Hopefully Gonzalez doesn't make his next start on the 31st.
  2. Cooper may be a little overrated, but he's one of the better pitching coaches in baseball and has certainly been better then what we've had on the hitting side.
  3. QUOTE (South Sider @ Aug 28, 2017 -> 12:27 AM) Several large plot points were realized, a new one seemingly legitimized with Tyrion potentially betraying Daenarys. Jamie BAILS on Cersei, Qyburns zombie-boner is raging, Cleganebowl pretty much confirmed, Baelish finally got what he has had coming for 7 f***ing seasons, Bran finally listens to what Lyanna was saying to Ned ;-) bad ass blue fire breathing dragon even deadlier than regular fire breathing dragon pwns the wall... forgettable indeed. You will have forgotten all of this even happened by the time you are making your popcorn and nerding out to the season premier in 12-18 months. Christ some people are hard to please. It's not without its faults but if you really wanted to turn off the show while Baelish was finally getting his... or when Mountain might be killing Jamie.. because it was TOO predictable then guess what, you are THINKING too much. Predictability isnt necessarily a bad thing. How do like 90% of shows and movies that all have good and evil usually end? Guess what, good prevails over evil. Since the bible, since stories in general, because guess what.. good is cooler than evil. Here's unpredictable for you, a giant meteor crashes into Westeros and does the majority of the NKs work for him. Littlefinger mindf***s Sansa and Arya into killing each other. Cersei wins over a dragon by sheer political prowess. Edmure Tully finds his way to the dragon pit and kills everyone. Ahhh yes, instant satisfaction due to the unpredictable nature of the show? If you are expecting unpredictability with 1 season left at this point, you are fooling yourself. I must have missed the Tyrion potentially betraying Dany plot point. When did this happen? And a Qyburn zombie-boner & a future Cleganebowl being confirmed while fun aren't exactly major plot points. Last night's episode wasn't bad, I definitely overreacted a bit because of unrealistic expectations of what a finale in the penultimate season should be like. But I do stand by the claim of the episode being way too predictable, given that the "anything can happen / anyone can die" vibe is a big part of the allure of the show in the first place. Nothing wrong with one big twist or turn as we approach the end game, even if "good prevail over evil" as you state. This season overall has been disappointing though, with some of the worst pacing the show has ever seen. And with that came way too much convenient storytelling. This season screamed out to me that the producers of the show are finally getting worn down from running it and want to get to finish line ASAP. The production remains top notch, but some of the writing just feels lazy at this point. Also, how in the world are they going to wrap things up in six episodes? They need to settle both the Great War & Iron Throne storylines in about 400 minutes. Hopefully they can pull it off without feeling rushed.
  4. Pretty dissapointed with the episode and the season. Tonight was super predictable. The Littlefinger death should have been cool, but felt completely lacking. What else really happened? The only part I liked was Euron pretending to be scared and Cersei plotting her next move for once the war against the dead is over. Otherwise, this was a pretty forgettable episode given there are only six left.
  5. QUOTE (Lillian @ Aug 26, 2017 -> 12:32 PM) Wow, really? I'm surprised that it would require that much. That hurts. Maybe a qualifying offer isn't such a good idea, after all. I wonder if that isn't negatively affecting any current trade negotiations. Why would it hurt trade negotiations? No one would ever consider giving him a QO so it's a non-issue.
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 25, 2017 -> 11:51 PM) Dropped to 3rd tonight. Why is Miguel Gonzalez still on this team? He's going to cost us the 2nd pick.
  7. QUOTE (Lillian @ Aug 26, 2017 -> 04:45 AM) Look at Collin's split stats, for the season. He has very good numbers vs. RHP. That should be all that matters, because as a catcher, he is not likely to face many LH pitchers. He will be platooned, as are almost all catchers, in order to provide the necessary rest from the rigors of that position. Between Winston-Salem and his first few games at Birmingham, he is hitting approximately .250 with a .400 OBP and .500 slugging %, versus RHP. He's also hitting XBH at a rate of about 30 doubles and 30 homers. With him it all comes down to defense. Can he be passable behind the plate? I'm confident the bat will play if he can stick at catcher. To your point, the natural platooning of the position only makes that more likely. Blocking seems like it will always be an issue for him due to a lack of athleticism. Realistically, it will all come down to game management, limiting the run game, & framing. He's done a great job throwing out runners this year, so there's at least one plus. We'll just have to wait and see where those other areas shake out when he finally reaches the pros. Are there any sites that show minor league framing? Would be interesting to see if he's making any process in that particular area.
  8. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 25, 2017 -> 06:52 PM) It's a one year deal, and the guy seems to be a bit on the whiny side. Ideally they'll do him like the Seahawks did Flynn and they just retain Glennon as a backup option. But if Connor Shaw lights it up in the fourth preseason game and they like Sanchez as a backup/mentor, all the while Glennon continued to be terrible in the games and practice while developing a negative attitude, would rather the Bears eat the money. And no way it would be one of the dumbest moves in sports history. Absolutely preposterous. Nope, the only thing preposterous is thinking the Bears would eat millions and take a $14M cap hit because of "controversy and tension" (or in other words competition). I can't even begin to describe just how stupid that would be. You even contradict yourself above by saying ideally they'd keep him as a backup. Short of Glennon committing some sort of felony (and a bad one at that), it's all but a certainty he'll be a Bear this season.
  9. Need keeper advice. I'm in a 12 team, 0.5 PPR league where you have to keep one player and they cost you your first round. Unfortunately for me, my best two options are Gurley & Hilton. Who would you guys keep?
  10. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 25, 2017 -> 03:49 PM) Yea their minds appear to be changing. If Trubisky outplays Glennon again on Sunday they'll start Mitch week one. No use wasting time, get him out there. I wonder if they'll just cut Glennon to escape the controversy and tension (not to mention media surliness), Trubisky seems to be really assuming an alpha role in the locker room. Just accept the money as a sunk cost and move on. Wouldn't be shocked. You are insane if you think there's any chance they just eat that money. Would be one the dumbest moves in sports history.
  11. QUOTE (Lillian @ Aug 25, 2017 -> 07:00 AM) Nobody mentioned Rose's grand slam. He is putting up a solid slugging %. He's on a pace of 40 doubles and 25 homers, in a full season. I'm intrigued because he is purportedly a very good defensive third baseman, although he has played more first base, thus far. We may ultimately see a battle between Burger and Rose for the hot corner, with Davidson becoming a DH, if he isn't traded. Whether, or not, Burger can stick at third, is the biggest question. He is 2 years younger than Rose, so perhaps we will get a chance to see both of them get a shot on the parent club, before it all shakes out. At any rate, so far they are the 2 best hot corner prospects, in the system. However, no one should ignore Curbelo, who very well could be in the mix. I think you read some old scouting reports, because I don't he has any future at 3B anymore.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 25, 2017 -> 02:10 PM) I would imagine the white sox time lost to the DL is not even top 10. With Jones, Putnam, & Soto included?
  13. QUOTE (beautox @ Aug 24, 2017 -> 03:23 PM) I really like the idea of signing Chris Iannetta as a mentor and someone who can frame for these young pitchers. DH - Gillaspie# C - Iannetta - FA 1B - Abreu 2B - Moncada# SS - Anderson 3B - Davidson LF - Delmonico* CF - Garcia# RF - Engel SP - Rodon* SP - Lopez SP - Giolito SP - Chatwood / Santiago* / Tillman - FA SP - Shields C - Narvaez* UT - Sanchez# UT - Peter* OF - Garcia / Cordell / Tilson CL - Jones SU - FA SU - Bummer* MR - Clark* MR - Rule V LO - Fry* LR - Danish Trade Avisail. Two major issues with the above. Engel doesn't have the arm for RF and I'm not sure what Gillaspie has done to deserve a starting spot on the major league roster. I'd start Cordell & Willy over both of them.
  14. Nice catch by Leury. I'd much rather have a LF/CF of Delmonico/Leury than Leury/Engel.
  15. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 22, 2017 -> 08:52 PM) Lucas us fitting in by giving up three homers tonite Pretty negative statement after only six innings...
  16. Very solid start for Giolito so far: 4 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 1 HR, 3 K, 0 BB, 41/68 strikes
  17. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 22, 2017 -> 07:53 PM) Pretty negative opinion of a guy who has less then half a year in the big leagues Have you followed Engel throughout the minors? He has a very limited track record of success with the bat and is known for constantly tweaking things. I don't see him suddenly making the necessary adjustments to become an effective major league hitter. His plate appearances this season have only further cemented that opinion for me.
  18. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 22, 2017 -> 07:47 PM) Engel really isn't a MLB player unless he makes drastic, and I mean really drastic, strides at the plate. I don't get why people are penciling into the starting outfield next year over guys like Leury, Willy (who have actually shown flashes of being good MLB hitters), Cordell, etc. His defense is great but that means nothing if your OPS is in the .500s Yup, agree completely.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 22, 2017 -> 07:45 PM) Kinda wish Leury was getting reps in CF and Delmonico in LF Makes so much more sense. I get the allure of Engel, but I just don't see him ever putting it together offensively. Delmonico and Leury both have a chance to be part of the next good Sox team in some capacity.
  20. I would have much rather preferred that package than what we got from Minnesota.
  21. I really wish we could convince Rodon to sign an extension. Having a #1/#2 punch of Kopech/Rodon for the foreseeable future would be awesome. Would also be nice to have guys like Lopez, Giolito, Hansen, Dunning, etc. slot in the #3 to #5 spots where they could all provide elite production.
  22. QUOTE (Quin @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 08:15 PM) And sometimes pretending there's a moral high ground in the middle is more important to people than recognizing that the GOP embraced the Tea Party, let Trump get their nomination from their "deepest bench" (so there goes the "but Hillary" argument), installed Jeff Sessions as AG, installed DeVos as Sec. of Ed, let an oil executive run a massively understaffed State Department and think that the conviction of Joe Arpaio is a political attack. Oh yeah, and stole a Supreme Court seat and gave it to a man who is already making a mockery of the seat he holds. The GOP owns Trump. They own MAGA. They own the goose steppers. The voters? They were conned. But the party itself owns this because they had plenty of shots to stop it. QUOTE (Quin @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 08:20 PM) It's not the tenuous string of Struth Boston to Heather Heyer. It's the fact that in the video this guy claims he was attacked by "Antifa", but I saw little moaning from some about Charlottesville other than "they're pretty bad people, but the GOP isn't connected" because StrangeSox was trying to connect them. Which he did a little too strong and said as much. Yeah, I gave the same "they're pretty bad people" argument against the Antifa portrayed in this video. They're pretty s***ty people. But at least they didn't kill or maim someone. And if anyone calls the contents of that video an attack, well, we've got a lot to go through before that. Again, you've turned this into a partisan issue when it's not one. Am I allowed to beat someone's ass cause they were "annoying" and justify it by saying some random right-wing psychopath ran down an innocent person with their car? Think that defense would hold up in court? It's completely absurd and I'm not sure why you're still trying to connect scummy behavior by liberal prostestors to the Republican Party. You realize TaylorStreet is a liberal right? You realize I'm a liberal right? You're "the Republicans have done way worse" argument isn't going to work here because we aren't defending them. We're simply calling s***ty behavior regardless of political affiliation.
