  1. Ugh, caulfield is back for 48 hours and has already turned this place into a Royals suckfest. Leadership isn't our problem, it's a lack of positional talent.
  2. With the Cubs getting Heyward, the Sox may need to expand the payroll a bit and add a big piece or two for the fanbase to have any interest in this team. I know it's very early, but it's incredibly frustrating watching us hang in the middle (small moves that make us appear like we're trying). If this ownership group isn't willing to spend what it takes to make this team competitive, then we trade off valuable assets and go the rebuilding route. Watching the Cubs continue to make our beloved team less and less relevant in heart of Chicagoans is getting painful. I think over the next four weeks we should get a better sense if the organization has a real short-term direction or if they'r simply continuing to roll the dice with small-scale moves.
  3. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 08:13 AM) He probably could do better than 2/37 though. Maybe not his AAV but more guaranteed money over 4-5 years. Sure, he'd get more years on the open market, but those teams aren't trading prospects for him. Does it really make sense to give up several good prospects for a guy being paid like an elite OF but only has two years of control with his red flags?
  4. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 07:59 AM) http://m.rockies.mlb.com/news/article/1594...s?tcid=tw_share Says the White Sox have been long speculated as a possible landing slot for Carlos Gonzalez but rockies looking at Quintana. Basically they are looking for stating pitching and bullpen help I love that the writer calls CarGo at 2/$37M a bargain in this environment. I'm sorry, but I don't consider an AAV of $18.5M a bargain (for a second tier player no less) when one of the best OFs in the game just got a $23M AAV. If the Rockies expect anything of significance in return, they'll need to eat some serious salary. Saying that, I'd much rather have the Sox go after Upton or Cespedes than trade any top prospects for CarGo & salary relief.
  5. Not sure how anyone is ripping this deal. I hate the Cubs as much as anyone on this board, but this deal is a no-brainer for them. With the opt-out clauses, it would take a catastrophic injury that saps into his athleticism for this deal to go south. The only good news from an anti-Cubs perspective is their rotation is far from a sure thing. If all goes right, it can still be one of the best in the NL, but given age & health concerns, things could turn for the worse very quickly.
  6. Will be interesting to see how the team changes shake out. Feel sorry for whoever gets stuck with Jenna's sister.
  7. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 08:22 PM) He needs to be careful. That's how Sale hurt his foot. At least he didn't do a backflip like Courtney Hawkins.
  8. Wow, can't complain about this trade. It's almost like the A's made a mercy deal with us for once.
  9. Yeah, don't see the Sox going after Reddick. They'll want an OF with at least 2 to 3 years of control.
  10. Yeah, the only guy I would really like to avoid moving out of those four is Trayce. May & Engel are solid prospects, but I'm not going to lose sleep over including one of them in this trade. All things being equal, I'd rather trade Avi though.
  11. Depending on the price, I'm more than content with this move. We got nearly -2 WAR out of the 3B position last year and assuming Lawrie's defensive performance in 2015 was an outlier, he should be a 2 to 2.5 WAR player next year (if healthy) with a chance for more. That's a 4+ WAR swing at a position where our internal candidates were Mike Olt & Matt Davidson. Hard to be upset about that if the price is secondary prospects given the scarcity of 3B in the majors. Will still need find a legit impact bat to pair with Abreu if we're serious about improving the offense though.
  12. QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 10:31 PM) Bruce Levine ‏@MLBBruceLevine 34m34 minutes ago Cubs not done yet according to source . Big time outfielder next ? Hayward -Gordan - Car Go ? Not to be the spelling police here, but did Levine actually botch both of those names.
  13. Something has to go down tonight. It's been way too quiet on the Sox front.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 09:40 PM) He's supposedly their fallback option if they can't get Heyward Where you hearing this?
  15. ATL got a great package for Miller, but the Sox are better off waiting until next offseason before consider moving Quintana or Sale IMO. The free agent market is significantly worse next year and these guys will still have three & four years of control respectively. Plus we'll have a much better idea where we stand in a year (does Rodon take that next step, are guys like Anderson/Fulmer legit pieces) and dead weight off our roster (LaRoche/Danks).
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 07:16 PM) Baez They're most likely going to move him.
  17. That's a pretty decent deal for the Cubs. The fourth year sucks, but a $14M AAV ain't bad.
  18. Leaks has to be one of the most over-rated starters in baseball.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 06:21 PM) John Hart must have a White Sox hard on like KW had for old Indians. AJP, Beckham, Swisher, and now T Flow 2 years $5 million with some incentives. Well that clearly shows how his pitch framing is valued around the league and why we had to non-tender him.
  20. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 06:18 PM) Dodgers trade: Yasiel Puig Julio Urias Joc Pederson Dodgers receive: Jose Fernandez Adam LaRoche John Danks Marlins trade Marcelo Ozuna Jose Fernandez Marlins receive: Julio Urias Carlos Rodon White Sox trade: Carlos Rodon Adam LaRoche John Danks White Sox Receive Yasiel Puig Marcelo Ozuna Joc Pederson Thoughts?? Why are we trading for three OFs?
  21. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 06:02 PM) White Sox spent a portion of the day talking internally about lining up a series of possible moves. Things could start to heat up. https://twitter.com/ChuckGarfien/status/674377097708765184 This may be thread worthy.
  22. If offers are similar, I don't see how he doesn't pick the Cubs. He used to play for Maddon and is an Illinois native. Plus the flight from Chicago is a bit shorter to Nashville than the one from New York. Seems like a no-doubter to me.
  23. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 11:07 PM) Cinci's asking price is exorbitant for Frazier. I don't see it happening unless they change what they want. Lots of suitors too. Have you heard if the Sox are interested? If so, what would be an exorbitant price from our perspective?
  24. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 10:52 PM) Depends what we mean by contend. It would probably get us to 83-84 wins. How do you figure? Upton & Frazier combined for 8 WAR last year, they'd be replacing guys who put up a -3 WAR. That's an 11 point swing right there (assuming production maintains). Doesn't include any improvement from Melky or LaRoche, who combined for -1.7 WAR, which is incredibly likely IMO. Also doesn't consider any improvement from any of our the young guys, in particular Rodon, who has plenty of room to improve over the 2.1 WAR he posted last year. With a couple significant upgrades at 3B & RF, this team could very easily be a legitimate playoff contender.
