  1. Definitely didn’t help his trade value just now
  2. Yup, if Getz botches these last few assets it will push the timeline back a couple years. Got to pray he hits an absolute HR over these next nine days and/or in the offseason.
  3. Being a Sox fan is so bittersweet. On one hand, I truly believe in Bannister and feel like we could have a quality, home-grown rotation within two years behind Schultz, Smith, Thorpe, Cannon, and one of many other options. And while our bullpen is mostly garbage at the moment, I do think we have enough pitching depth in the minors to build a decent pen pretty quickly. While injuries could derail it all, there are legit reasons to be optimistic on this side of the ball. At the same time, I have little confidence in Getz, Barfield, & Watson to build an entire offense from basically scratch. Montgomery’s struggles against velocity are concerning and if he’s just a guy and not a star that creates a big roadblock for us. And just not a ton after him that you can feel super confident in at the moment other than Quero and to a lesser extent Baldwin. With our latest draft unlikely to provide help anytime soon, it really comes down to trades and free agency. If Getz can kill this trade deadline then the path to competitiveness suddenly becomes much easier, but it’s very hard to trust the evaluators who recommended giving up actual talent for guys like Fletcher & DeLoach. We should know a lot more nine days from now.
  4. Isn’t the rookie threshold 50 innings?
  5. Vaughn 100% needs to go after this season. Zero reason to commit more time on him at this point.
  6. In theory each team should land 16 or 17. And I’m not going to lose sleep if we missed out on a couple guys in the 400’s in a weak draft, but I’m not a huge fan of what we did on day 2. Very little upside and not even one standout prospect IMO. Last year we had Keener & Wolkow as immediate top 30 prospects and the year before we had Cannon. McLain in particular was a very disappointing third round pick. I hope he proves me wrong and Shirley probably deserves the benefit of the doubt here, but I’m just not a fan of the tweener OF profile that high in the draft. Overall, it just doesn’t feel like we got $15M of talent across all three days and the lack of one more big overslot pick somewhere reinforces that.
  7. It feels like one of the prep picks may have pushed for more money last second and put us in a bit of a bind. Yes, I get it was a weak draft, but day 2 felt like more of a fallback plan than it should have.
  8. I fully get the don’t use one publication to evaluate a draft thinking, but only drafting 10 of the top 500 on BA’s list is not a great sign. Especially when it seems like several of our non senior selections on day 2 were mild reaches.
  9. Phillies have shied away from Pham as an OF reinforcement per Bob.
  10. Per Nightengale. What could a package look like there?
  11. Latest update on Crochet from Bob: Also says the Tigers are talking to teams about Skubal, but that he’s unlikely to be trade (which is good for the Crochet & Fedde markets).
  12. We don’t need pitching though. Not sure we pair up all that well with them.
  13. He already declared he’s going to college
  14. It seems like we went from having some of the best pro scouts during the prime KW years to the worst under Hahn. And I’m greatly concerned about Gene Watson being the one to right the ship.
  15. He can square up with the best of them, but unfortunately has the upper body of a sedentary tween. The fact he is the biggest free agent signing in franchise history is an embarrassment unlike any other.
  16. He looks like a solid back of the rotation SP to me.
  17. Nothing…he is an absolute abomination of a player.
  18. I have a bad feeling that Nastrini is pitching through some injury. Just a crazy fall off this year.
  19. I don’t think Smith would be that much. My guess is $8.0M, $3.0M, & $2.0M for our first three picks, which would be ~$1.8M overslot in total. It’s very clear with our day 2 picks that we went well above the 5% $700k overage on day 1.
  20. May is out with a weird injury and only has a year of control left. Lux isn’t anything special and only has two years of control left. Outman is 27 years old and his bat has been exposed in the majors over a larger sample. These guys aren’t all that valuable and certainly don’t really help us in our rebuild. One team acquiring Crochet & Robert in the same trade would be near impossible for all but a handful of clubs and I don’t see the Dodgers being one of them. That being said, a package of Pages, De Paula, & Freeland would be enough for one of them plus a smaller piece (Kopech, DeJong, Pham, etc.).
  21. I think this has to do with trading DeJong and having an infield option they prefer over Mendick in place. Sosa should be back up soon I’d imagine.
  22. That’s a really rough day 2. Let’s hope there is something coming tomorrow…I’m definitely worried they blew their entire load on the two prep picks.
  23. New thread for a new day! Hopefully we can snag someone fun in the 3rd (Joey Oakie?)
