  1. And it’s totally fine you feel that way as this ownership group and front office haven’t done much to earn our trust. The problem is when certain poster repeat ad nauseas that Hahn is the worst GM ever and is definitely going to fail this offseason. Or when people imply the Sox are going to rock an $80M payroll next year because they claim Ivan Nova types are the best we will ever do in free agency. It’s one thing to be cautious or even to have a negative outlook on certain things, it’s another to be completely irrational out of spite and start polluting the board with the same hate-filled takes over & over. This place has stopped becoming a message board for certain posters and purely an outlet to voice their anger & hate to the detriment of everyone else. At some point that posting style just becomes selfish as it brings down the overall quality of the board and dissuades two way conversation.
  2. I don’t mean to be condescending, but if you really think there is no hope for Hahn filling out the rest of the roster then why don’t you simply give up? No point in committing your time to the White Sox if you’re certain they will fail.
  3. Great post Hibbard. Unfortunately what separates us fans from baseball executives is the need to remain rational during rough patches. This recent stretch has been enduring for many reasons and it’s admittedly hard to remain level-headed & objective. That being said, a lot of the reasons just don’t matter. The pitching staff outside of Giolito, Lopez, Cease, Bummer, & Fry (and Ruiz, Colome, & Herrera to a lesser extent) is pretty much irrelevant. The vast majority of these guys won’t be around next year. The same applies to the offense and even more so in recent weeks with Anderson & Eloy out. Guys like Reed, Jay, & Sanchez don’t matter and aren’t worth freaking about on a daily basis in game threads. The part that does bother me a bit is the relentless panicking over any struggles from the young guys. The hot takes & over-reactions to Giolito’s rough patch have been ridiculous as the kid is just 25 years old and has made significant strides this year. He looks legit now even when things go wrong. There have been similar over-reactions to other guys as well (like the move Eloy to DH every time he makes a bad play), but to a much smaller degree. At the end of the day, this season has been fantastic for the young guys, with Moncada, Eloy, Timmy, Giolito, & Bummer all showing significant improvement. Young guys are going to have their rough moments, which is why we shouldn’t overreact to every single pitch / at-bat like some occasionally do. There is reason to be cautious right now given the lack of depth behind our top prospects, but there’s absolutely no reason to panic until we start seeing key guys failing.
  4. Only one year of Stroman, he’s a free agent after the 2020 season.
  5. Nice games from Mendoza, Delgado, & Curbelo.
  6. Thanks, really doesn’t make any sense for the Mets, although the price wasn’t that bad and they should get a comp pick for him after the 2020 season if he stays healthy. Will be interesting to see what they get for Thor & Wheeler.
  7. Lots of activity finally happening, I predict the Sox make a move tonight (and no, Covey’s replacement doesn’t count).
  8. Stroman only has one year of control left correct? I saw an article that said two, but that’s got to be wrong.
  9. If that’s legit, then wow is all I can say.
  10. I mean, we’ve pretty much been rail-roaded with injuries on the pitching side. Rodon & Kopech should both be in the rotation, Dunning would have probably been pushing for a spot right now, and Lambert was one of our better, more advanced prospects. All those guys lost for the season. On the bullpen side, losing Jones, Hamilton, & Burr (and Burdi to a lesser extent) for the year forced us to give fringier guys opportunities. That’s a lot of injuries to overcome for any organization.
  11. So the Mets gave up two pitching prospects, but Fangraphs had neither guy as even a FV 50. Does anyone know how BA & MLBpipeline ranked these guys? I know they were high draft picks, but it doesn’t appear either was a top 100 type.
  12. Walker was on absolute fire for W-S after an initial adjustment period. He’s since hit a cold steak, but I remain optimistic with him. I know many here are down on him and that’s totally fair, but BA & MLBpipeline both remain high on him based on their latest rankings. As for Pilkington, his ERA looks bad at W-S and his BB rate is admittedly high, but his K rate is fine and @SoxAce said he was hitting 94 MPH in his last start. If that’s truly the case, then I think he’s still a very interesting prospect.
  13. The 2018 draft seems fine. Walker, Stiever, Pilkington, & Heuer all have some trade value, plus there’s still hope for some of the HS picks to emerge. The problem is the 2016 draft quickly went from looking great to a disaster due to injuries, Collin’s slow and/or lack of development, & Hansen’s meltdown, while the 2017 draft had many highly questionable picks. I mean I can’t believe we went over-slot in the 2nd for a college 1B and then wasted two early picks on low ceiling pitchers in Henzman & McClure. The Burger injury & LuGo AA struggles have made it very possible we end up with nothing from this draft. At this point, the over-slot 1B is probably our best hope of getting a contributor and that’s a huge if.
  14. If he comes back, they really need to start that transition ASAP.
  15. Apparently the Mets gave up some pitching prospects, but no names yet. Can’t wait to see the actual names. Also, if you think the KW/Hahn/Reinsdorf trio is bad, imagine having the Wilpon’s & Brodie Van Wagenen instead. At least we know things could be worse.
  16. I believe so, which is a vast improvement over Abreu.
  17. Once Robert, Madrigal, & Vaughn get up here, I’m not sure there will be a ton of pain points defensively. LF will obviously be a weakness and we don’t know who will be manning RF, but we’d have good to great defenders pretty much everywhere else.
  18. I mean, naps are pretty fucking powerful. Just took one myself and feel reinvigorated.
  19. Vile - What’s funny is I actually agree with your thread title and personally think WAR is a stupid way to evaluate all relievers. I just don’t buy that you’ve actually done much research on this subject and this thread just reeks of a continued desire to push your anti advanced metrics propaganda.
  20. He’s a reliever unfortunately, so he wouldn’t solve the problem.
  21. Lol...I mean you’re probably right, but at least Carson has some stuff and has been striking out guys like crazy in AAA. Probably best to keep him as a reliever though if there’s any chance of him ever becoming a major leaguer. What Johnson are you referring to?
  22. He’s still at High A, but he’s probably the best healthy pitching prospect we got and no way we could use him right now without disrupting his development.
