Shouldn’t be hard because that would be stupid

2020 MLB Draft Thread
If there’s any team that has the ability to locate the HS pitching version of Mike Trout, it’s the White Sox at #11. I love the idea of going HS pitching the first three rounds. That would give us 5 HS pitchers out of our top 6 picks over two years. Gettin it done, son!

Sox @ Reds: Spring Training Opener (Cease)
I think he is the FO’s #1 plan going back a year, hence Mazara. Adolfo having a big year all but guarantees 7-8 straight championships

KW says "no Puig"
It’s almost over. The most interesting thing to me is that 30 MLB franchises pay teams and teams of people to analyze stats all day long. They look at stats from directions and contexts we as fans could ONLY HOPE to understand one day. And yet, nobody has signed him. And yet, fans, the people with less than 1% of the knowledge front offices have, think Puig is a good idea because of stats. As if the front offices don’t have access to dumb shit like fangraphs, stat cast blah blah you name it. Somehow the 30 professional baseball teams are the ones making a mistake...because of internet stats. blows my mind.

Giolito: The White Sox pitching Yoda?
Nice! I read this and thought “Holy crap. 120 wins for sure!” Then I laughed at how low that is

Sox Payroll Redux. Why did the Spending Stop ?
I wouldn’t worry. If the Sox are kicking ass at the ASB I guarantee they make a push for relief help.

KW says "no Puig"
It’s baffling really. Pulling out all these cherry-picked platoon stats and defensive metrics that make him barely an upgrade. Like barely. Somehow we’re all seeing it wrong and missing the big picture and the obvious upgrade. But yet so are 29 other teams. Why is Puig begging for a job as we get close to March and forcing out all these character plays on social media?

Andrew Vaughn
Looking forward to 2023. Vaughn hits his 100th HR in a late May game against Kansas City. In the same game, for Kansas City, a 34 yr old Jose Iglesias makes a slick play at some point and goes 1-4 to raise his OPS to .590. Not a bad game for a declining defensive wizard who accepted the only MLB contract he was offered. Unfortunately for the Royals, Bobby Witt Jr. Is struggling mightily in his second go round in AA, barely topping Iglesias’ .590 OPS

Most Memorable Sox Game You've Attended?
I just found it on BR. august 5th 2000 hurt smashes a walkoff double to left center and Valentin scores from first. Place went crazy. I was 15 and my neighbor had tickets like 20 rows behind home plate. Anybody else remember that game? how do you find old video or newspaper articles?

Last week without any baseball
I’ll try since we have a week! I’d argue the defense for not punishing players is that it would be really hard and exhausting to do. As I see it, I think the prosecution has to pick one of two lanes: Either you bring individual “charges” against those involved or you “blanket charge” everybody. The first way sounds impossible. Investigating each player and their personal involvement? GMAFB. Good luck with that investigation taking less than 100 years and actually yielding truth. Seems to me the prime investigating technique would be: “Hi. Would any of you like to rat on your teammates?” The other way of a blanket charge seems crazy because if the punishment is severe it’s completely unfair to those that didn’t partake. But if it’s severe enough, like permanent banning from baseball, i could definitely see it leading to a bunch of the finger-pointing and ratting mentioned above. And then who determines who is lying at that point? Seems like you end up with no proof but suspicions, just like the steroids era. so I think the commissioner probably wanted to punish a few people with permanent bans but there was no way of truly identifying who was involved. Does 1 time deserve a ban? Does knowing about it but not saying anything deserve less of a ban? it’s just too messy. stripping them of the title sounds nice but it’s not really a punishment. Seems like a slap on the wrists and won’t stop what’s coming this year. maybe Manfred has done an okay job with this. how did I do?

Yoan Moncada switches agents
He probably thought about it. I wonder what makes a player not pick Boras

TA is the best
Normally I’d agree but Tim did show that special ability to serve outside pitches back into shallow center and right at will. Konerko didn’t develop that skill until his last few years but it was beautiful. This leads me to think Tim can sustain super high BAs. One of the more interesting things to watch this year for sure

Can’t wait for whatever day the idea of bringing Puig here is thrown overboard.

Fangraphs and Luis Robert
Just read through that. Pretty nuts.

Mlb might be changing playoff format
I’d love a 9-11 game World Series. I want that thing to be a grind. it would be cool because maybe each city gets to host the World Series for a week. Like a circus and like the Super Bowl. Play 5 straight somewhere Mon-Fri, then go to the other city for 6 straight Tues-Sunday.
