  1. QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 6, 2017 -> 04:50 PM) Funny, I just posted this link to another thread of yours. I think Cordel may be a sleeper. Tell me why, please.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 5, 2017 -> 04:36 PM) Going back to this I am going to mention that the Sale and Eaton deals were sort of connected. While it sounds like Washington actually had the second best offer for Sale, the Sox parlayed a few of those guys into the eventual Eaton deal once Hahn found out who was available from the Sale deal. If the Sox send Sale to Washington, it also means the Eaton deal never happens, so you have to figure out a way to rebuild that deal somewhere else. From the whispers, it sounds the combination of both deals was by far the largest offers we had for the combination of both players, and while maybe you get more for Sale from someone else, if you get a much smaller deal from Eaton because the Sale deal took up their top prospects, you end up with a net loss even if you get more for Sale individually. I'm trying to figure out how the Eaton deal, which came right after the Sale deal, makes it wise for Sox to accept Basabe and Diaz, two guys who will likely never be close to quality MLBers, as the final two parts of a 4 player haul for Sale.
  3. Continuing: I wish one of our Admins had the opportunity to interview Paddy on the Tatis matter.
  4. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 02:56 PM) There were people out there that were plenty upset about Tatis, thinking he might be a pretty prospect, I certainly wasn't one of them. And I don't agree with Greensox on anything but I think it's completely fair to say that the Sox didn't know what they had in Tatis. I mean, they clearly didn't. Then why did they give him such a nice signing bonus? Can't remember the amount, but it was more than most of those DR guys got. Someone must have liked him. Why not let him play a year in Rookie League before making the decision to trade him. Preller probably knew him better than we did. The whole thing stinks. That's why Hahn doesn't want to open up about it. It smacks of incompetence. Who on the Sox Front Office, besides Hahn, was consulted on this trade? Seems like a logical question to me. But Preller comes along and probably insisted on Tatis, so why would Hahn say No? Let me check him out. Oh, you'll take Eric Johnson off our hands, too? Good deal. And, And I'll only have to pay half of Sheilds' salary?? What a deal.
  5. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 01:03 PM) James Fegan @JRFegan Replying to @JRFegan Sox need to protect Eloy Jimenez, Casey Gillaspie, Ryan Cordell from Rule 5 eligibility, case to be made for Jake Peter, Brian Clark, Jordan Guerrero...Micker Adolfo, Tito Polo. This frees up some space Eloy has 4 yrs in stateside pro ball; don't have to protect him yet.
  6. After reading most of this thread, I was watching PTI and there was a comment by Derek Jeter to the effect that there will be some very unpopular decisions to be made. Nothing specific, however, unless I missed it.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 02:07 PM) There is no way in hell I'd even think about trading Collins. Why not?
  8. I wonder how well Marco Paddy knows Maitan.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 12:46 PM) This so badly. The international system we have now is a joke. Realistically we just need a world wide draft like the NBA and NHL use. How does the Player's Union feel about that?
  10. Hahn should have received more in the Sale trade. Nothing against Kopech or Moncada, obviously. But, Hahn should have received four legitimate prospects. Basabe and Diaz are not on that category.
  11. How much money would it take?
  12. QUOTE (Lillian @ Sep 30, 2017 -> 04:05 PM) It was interesting to hear Hawk's take on Avi, in last night's broadcast, with "Whimpy". For what it's worth, and I know for some of you, not much, he was very positive. He said "You ain't seen nothin' yet" and that "he is just beginning to mature into the kind of player that he can be". He even stated that Avi was the "Closest thing to a legitimate 5 tool player, we've ever had". The craziest comment was that he still stands by his initial assessment, that he believes "Avi will ultimately become the greatest player in White Sox history!!" It was really "over the top". It's pretty clear that Hawk loves him. I wish I had heard that broadcast. Of course, White Sox have never had a five tooler. Frank was too slow and could not throw. Abreu is closer, in some respects. Both Avi and Abreu have two years left of control, I believe. Hahn has a couple of big decisions to make. Interesting.
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 30, 2017 -> 10:53 AM) Quin, Please explain to me how Otani leaving Japan now, instead of in two years, makes "feasible sense"? Rice wine and women.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 30, 2017 -> 09:55 AM) Maybe it is the oldness speaking, but the White Sox were always a leader for Abreu. Most of the top spending teams didn't need him, and the Sox were the most obvious team, both in the media and in speculation. Nail on the head. Can't help it. I do remember in the days preceding his signing, that my NWSDA (Normal White Sox Defeatist Attitude) said to me that there was no way Sox could actually get that lucky and sign Abreu. Then it happened. Better than Christmas. Turned out Rockettes were second highest bidder. Abreu might have won a batting title there. Red Sox wanted him, but they were allegedly going to send him to AAA. So we got him, and I hope we extend him.
  15. QUOTE (Tony @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 07:52 PM) OldManYellsAtSky.jpeg Tony, that's a funny thought. I probably have played that role. Seriously, having a player play all 9 positions in final game has been done before, so it's not a big deal anymore, if it ever was. Campy Campaneris (sp) did it decades ago, probably when I was your age. Others have, too. Minor league teams do it often to give themselves something to talk about, but it is not a big deal. But if it floats your boat, I am all for it.
  16. QUOTE (Quin @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 07:49 PM) Otani isn't coming to the Sox. Neither was Abreu.
  17. QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 07:38 PM) Pretty cool thing will be happening on Sunday: http://mlb.com/r/article?ymd=20170928&...et&c_id=det Why is that so cool? Just a bunch of lineup changes for the worst team in baseball/
  18. 8 out of 18 NL leaders are from Colorado Rockies.
  19. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Sep 28, 2017 -> 07:52 PM) Could someone give a recap of Hahn in B3? Said Sox will get good player no matter where we pick. Was nice to Moncada, Renteria, and others. I'm just glad Stone did the interview.
  20. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Sep 28, 2017 -> 01:12 PM) Rather have Collins than the guy who went 1.1 as of now. Who? Mickey Moniak, Phillies?? Agree. Just looked up his stats. Pretty ordinary numbers in Sally League this year. Still awfully young, though. Numbers are a bit lower than Rutherford's, for example.
  21. Face it, Sox are not in line for top 3 pick. It'll be somewhere 4-6.
  22. QUOTE (daa84 @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 06:19 AM) sox really messed this up. There's a big difference between picking 1 or 2 and picking 4 They underestimated the competition.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 07:40 PM) With the new Trump travel ban now including Venezuela, you have to wonder what happens to international signings there now. About the same as Somalia.
  24. QUOTE (ChiSox1917 @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 05:04 PM) If they can get a top 50 prospect for him, would rather trade him this offseason Have you actually gone through the current list of Top 50 Prospects before making that statement? I doubt it.
