  1. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 29, 2014 -> 12:55 AM) Speaking of 1st RD picks. All by 7 have signed for far. All but 2 in the top 10 (Rodon and Hoffman). Of the guys who've signed, Schwarber is tearing up his league right now. Nick Gordon is off to a decent start. Alex Jackson has been bad in his week of play, and Aaron Nola has gotten lit up in his 1 start, not even making it out of the 3rd inning. Everyone's favorite catcher Jakson Reetz is 0 for 6 with 4 Ks in his brief start in Rookie ball. You're right. Schwarber hitting over .500 with 8 homers in two leagues.
  2. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 29, 2014 -> 12:46 AM) Uh, he signed like on Day 2. For $6.5M, which saved Houston something like $1.5M. They should have lost their minds with glee. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/2014-draft...ent_id=79082538 You're right, my bad, sorry. I went to the Astro's Home Page and it says 'unsigned'.
  3. I wonder what the Astro message boards/media are saying about Aiken not yet signing?
  4. I thought Tank's shot would hit the roof.
  5. I think Conor at 2B would have struggled with the final out that GB made fairly routinely, with the tying run about to score. The ball is going to keep finding him in clutch situations, so he has to get over it.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 08:37 PM) Not trying to flame, just a question. If Robin left him in, do we lose that game? No doubt about it, yes.
  7. Bella's ERA up to 5.79. I have no idea what it is if you only include his closing appearances.
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 09:20 AM) SIGN ALL OF DA CUBANS Just saw where the Reds signed a Cuban pitcher for 7 yrs/$27 large.
  9. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 05:39 PM) Sox sign Daniel McCutchen to a minor league deal. The revolving door keeps spinning. Any relation to Andrew?
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 06:37 PM) Alexei is playing awful baseball all around of late. Just have to hope it's not too late to get value for him. It is.
  11. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 06:32 PM) Yea, Garcia is totally the guy you want getting the most ABs. It's little things like this with Robin that add up. Just move Beckham up FFS and bat Garcia 9th. Or, you KNOW DE AZA IS HOT TRY HIM. It's like the conventional, silly manager thing to do, would be to play the hot hand, small sample size wizard De Aza at leadoff. (which I'm fine with, try and capture some lightning in a bottle). But instead he goes the Jim Leyland route and puts him leadoff, batting where the guy he replaced does. You're right about Leyland doing that; I never agreed with that logic. I remember years ago when he was manager of the Rockies (for one year), Larry Walker in his prime was dinged up for a day and Leyland decided to rest him and replace with with somebody hitting a buck eighty. Naturally. Leyland batted the guy third, and the Press roasted him.
  12. I think our boys have a little better shot at success tonight.
  13. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 10:13 AM) Kinda like the Shields trade? That was pretty far-fetched until it actually happened too. The return the Cubs got for a half of a season of Garza? That was out there as well. The most far-out deal is the rumored package that the Cubs are attempting to acquire from the Jays for Samardjzia. Given Q's ability and contract, he should pull in a similar deal. What have the Jays offered for Samardjzia?

Micker got his first hit after an 0 for 10 start.
  15. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 07:16 AM) I think that in the end were going to find out Rodon was just giving his arm a little ciesta before starting the pro career. This is a big jump and a lot of money for a 21 year old, so who cares if he want to bask in the moment for a few. With his workload and s*** defense behind him at NC, can ya really blame him? Nothing to worry about, Rodon doesn't have the leverage some may think he has. Does that include his catcher at NC State?

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 08:53 PM) it is indeed 13 -- fourth highest total in the International League. The only guys he trails are career minor leaguers -- Dan Johnson (16), Ruben Gotay (14) and Mike Hessman (14). So maybe there is hope. A little. Wilkins has same HR total as Davidson.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 09:02 PM) Michael Taylor 3-4 with a double. Saladino 3-5. The Knights bullpen is one of the worst of all-time, they seem to blow the lead every single day. I'm pretty sure you can go ahead and release Mitchell Boggs guys. The wrath of Wite is now coming your way.
  18. Does anyone have a link that shows how many #1 picks have signed? Tks.
  19. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 12:50 PM) This pick resulted in Twins' top pitching prospect Alex Meyer. I just looked him up. 24 yr old 6'9" RHP with a ton of strikeouts; now at Rochester in IL.
  20. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 09:39 PM) Oh you mean Miguel Cabrera? lol. We all know B/R sucks, but they've done more research than I am willing to do right now, so here is there project top 10 for next years draft..... 1) CF Daz Cameron - HS (Mike Cameron's son) 2) RHP Michael Matuella - Duke 3) SS Alex Bregman - LSU 4) SS Brendan Rogers - HS 5) LHP Nathan Kirby - Virginia 6) 2B Ian Happ - Cincinnati 7) CF Jahmai Jones - HS 8) OF Kyle Dean - HS 9) SS/3B John Aiello - HS 10) RHP Carson Fulmer - Vanderbilt How come Carlos Rodon is not on that list? Of those, it sounds like Happ is the best college hitter, and Kyle Dean is the best prep hitter. Dean apparently has monster-raw power due to exceptional bat speed, and a big arm to play RF. 8th overall is definitely a spot this team could land in.
  21. He got two strikes on all four hitters, only put one away.
  22. Wite told us last week that his signing was 99.9% certain. That's all anyone needs to know.
  23. Sox gave up a #1 draft pick to Washington for Dunn in 2011.

Just an observation, boys, don't get so upset. I never made a direct comparison between the two. Boggs spent six years in the minors and faced criticism because he played third and had no power. I have heard Boggs talk about it in interviews, stating that he had to overcome that negative evaluation., that stigma. So now we have a third baseman in minors who hits for high average but without power, and another poster said he is thus not a prospect. All I did was point out that a HOFer once had the same dilemma.
  25. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 12:49 PM) Appel had a lot less to risk though. The #8 pick's slot value is about $3.2 mill while there are slot values in millions all the way down to about #55, and he could have earned as much as $8 mill. Rodon is risking a hell of a lot more than that and there really is not a whole lot of benefit to doing so. You and many others in this thread are being too logical. That can get you in trouble. Ask any marriage counselor. Boras has a history of not being logical, just greedy. His history with White Sox also shows a hint of vindictiveness. Not sure where it started. My logic, which is often flawed, says that Rodon would be better taking the money now and getting to work instead of drinking beer, eating potato chips, and whatever else 21 year olds do these days.
