Everyone is into the Rays model but the real challenge comes when paying your 5 war players. Baseball is the least predictable of sports and yet we treat it like it's not.
-
an overall lack of depth, with little immediate help from the minors on the horizon A lot of teams can run into this. I don't think teams are as willing to give up their best prospects over perceived best prospects. A GM like Getz is easily fleeced.

The trade ideas begin! Robert for Holliday ++

It's the crapshoot all small market habitual losing teams do by signing with the hopes of moving them at the trade deadline. The reality is teams with good farm systems don't fall for that unless you consider a Vargas as a food prospect. -
I wish it was less like summer and more like fall out here. Discounted rate ($115) for seniors 55+. Tempted.

I'm wondering if the trade was worse than the Burger/Eder trade.

That wouldn't be a bad organization to buy. There's plenty of competence where an owner doesn't have to mess with much. Imagine if they got an owner that would spend money. Jerry's team will be in the basement for a long time. Their fans were frustrated but new ownership doesn't always makes things better - see Chicago White Sox.

That's how postseason baseball works. Teams always trying to tweak in the offseason and look great on paper but sometimes the needle doesn't move.

This thread should be called Bad Ideas Continue. Getz makes Birmingham Better -
When you are better at sustaining shitty baseball fans don't show up since it is rarely long term. Plenty of owners don't believe in building a fan base. We have one who is very good at destroying them.
-
Kershaw is the same way. Still you need those horses to get you there. It might have premature to take him out so early. Some guys get better as the game goes on.

Getz would trade all of them to make Birmingham better

I guess we will wait a decade. Unfortunately the rebuild needs to begin with the fan base. Not gonna happen. He will crush anything involved with a winning culture. Somehow all of these changes we believe will create success but doesn't most of these teams do things that are suppose to create success. You definitely need talented people and keep them. I don't think this organization can attract those people. Reinsdorf managed to attract more negative press on a world wide scale than any organization in baseball. Even people in Bangladesh know the organization sucks. Not only does he need to apologize to fans through actions but all of MLB. He seriously needs to sell because that is probably the #1 wish of Sox fans. Imagine if he apologized to fans hiring LaRussa, which I also think is a reason why any potential front office people would avoid this organization.

`Says every bad owner looking at their profits.

Sports have become less professional and more barbaric.

Unless you are a prospect wanting to be in the big leagues before your time being traded to the White Sox will crush any built up morale.

So they listened to ONE guy. No one else had any input? -

What I don't get is did anyone in the organization say that wasn't a good idea? If this was recommended plenty of people need to go. Or did they want Getz to fail? Did Getz take any advice? There probably has to be a lot more going on in this organization for such a horrible trade. The only other option I can think of is Tony thought it was a great idea. -
This is where analytics overrule gut instinct.

Every time I've seen Kopech pitch there is a lot of luck. The best I've seen is when he doesn't try to throw through a wall. He doesn't really have a lot of control. He just got taken out. He's not starting pitching material either.

Terry Francona reportedly hired by Reds

Neither will they. The Sox got great attention for being inept. -
Terry Francona reportedly hired by Reds

What was missing in the was he came from a habitually losing organization. Local media tried to prop him up for the two world series appearances but failed to see the lack of sustained success. I never liked the hire because it was a Royal. Don't think Getz had nothing to do with that hire. -

Only in fantasy sports Our reality is a nightmare, Then all it takes is for them to make Boras their agent. Then we kick the can down the road and make Birmingham better. -
You have to wonder if the Padres ran out of prospects to trade. But you can dupe Getz into making Birmingham better, I admire their aggressiveness trying to unseat the Dodgers. That seems like it is the only real rivalry in baseball. No white flag trades there despite having a good season without Soto.

Said every fan with a cheapass owner.

I think more teams hold on to their real prospects. With an injury prone league when a major player is out you need someone to fill the spot that gets a short audition at the big leagues. It's a good way to evaluate their younger players. I just don't trust the Sox with a good organization's prospects. The coaching isn't there and never was. Interesting to hear AJ talking about the Sox organization when it comes to other prospects thinking if they were in the Sox organization they could make it quicker to the big leagues. The downside is losing service time and could be closer to a DFA than the big leagues unless you find another easily duped GM.
