  1. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 05:38 PM) Obviously there would be a 72 hr window along with that. When is the last time a 48-72 hour window went down in the MLB?
  2. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 05:25 PM) 100% agree, but how can Hahn be sure? Anderson, Fulmer, Dunning, Sheets too much? For 1 year!? I’d hate that.
  3. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 04:52 PM) To keep him as a LHSP in AA? Who would the White Sox have to send him back to? I guess...but I see virtually no chance he makes it though the entire league without getting picked, and I don't see the Sox taking him with their 1st pick.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 04:46 PM) Can you pick your own guy? Whats the point though? Could have just put him on the 40 man 30 days ago and DFA'd Alen Hanson. Clearly the Sox don't think much of him as a lefty reliever.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 09:54 AM) Well this was a generally quiet first day for everyone huh? Seriously. Super boring meetings so far.
  6. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 02:21 AM) Someone at work asked me if I would take Rafael Devers for Abreu straight up. I thought it was an interesting question. There is no way in hell the Sox turn that offer down. Zero. There is also no way the Red Sox make that offer. I'd be absolutely astonished.
  7. A Severino / Judge / Sanchez package would have been neat. But I ain't complaining with Moncada and Kopech.
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 10, 2017 -> 02:36 PM) Angels sign Rymer Liriano to a minor league deal. Big week in Anaheim. Didn't realize he was a FA.
  9. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 12:48 PM) Why can't we take on JBJ and try to flip him later? If our scouts believe he's closer to the hitter he was in 2015/2016 (wRC+ of 120ish) than last year (wRC+ of 90), then he's seems like an incredible buy low type guy. I would most definitely need a secondary piece that offers some long-term potential like Chavis, but a deal like this could make a ton of sense for us. Again, got to trust your scounts on this one. I doubt we could get JBJ + anything of significance. We could always hold JBJ and flip later, sure...but his clock will be ticking. Unless he has a huge year, the best time to trade him for max value would be now.
  10. I continue to think a three-way deal with the Sox moving Abreu, someone else getting JBJ, and the Sox getting prospects is about as good of a fit as we're going to get for Abreu. Maybe something like Fowler, Luzardo, and Armenteros from the A's would work. I don't know that I love that deal for the Sox, but trying to be realistic. I could see something around that framework. Not sure A's are looking to move prospects, though. But they always seem to be in the middle and a bit of an unknown....so ya never know.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 12:16 PM) Fulmer's the kind of guy the White Sox should want right now. Plenty of talent, some minor league struggles, could break out if given a big league shot, could wind up as a reliever, no major harm if he has a terrible year. For 2018 that's still the kind of guy we should be playing. Agreed
  12. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 12:05 PM) When I mean trade interest I mean for teams to be interested enough to offer something in the realm of what it would require for the Sox to move him. Obviously we are better off seeing what he can do at the mlb level starting and then in the bullpen if that does not work out than dealing him for nothing. I am certain the Sox could deal Fulmer for more than nothing. But I do agree that the likelihood of them trading him is very low.
  13. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 10:05 AM) I don't think Brinson was ever on the table from the Brewers for Quintana. Fulmer hasn't proven anything yet, or at least enough to warrant any trade interest. Warrant any trade interest? I guarantee you most every team would be interested in Fulmer. For a top 30 prospect? Nah. But let's not act like the guy has no value.
  14. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 6, 2017 -> 02:25 PM) Signing 5-6 guys would have 40 man roster implications as well. I just don't see the need for the Sox to spend any significant money in free agency on a 90+ loss 2018 team. Rule five draft, under the radar one year deals and giving younger players an opportunity is in the cards for us The bolded is a fair opinion. But I don't think a team that makes those moves loses 90 games. As of the 40 man machinations...there is still so much fat on there. May, Palka, Tilson, Smith and Covey are all easy cuts. And there are another handful I wouldn't any sleep over losing.
  15. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 6, 2017 -> 02:12 PM) Sox tried the "catch lightning in a bottle with a patchwork team" strategy for years and got nowhere, I don't think they revert from rebuilding yet. Even if we were to get lucky and slip into the wild card, that bullpen is not getting us out of the first round of the playoffs. How exactly does that revert from rebuilding? It doesn't give up any of the precious assets they've acquired. The pitching additions are needed. I suspect the Sox sign at least 1 reliever to a MLB deal. Rondon would fit the bill. I would assume there would be mutual interest between the Sox and Swarzak if his price tag doesn't get too high. The bullpen needs a lot of work. The Sox are going to need another rotation option with Rodon on the shelf until at least June and Kopech not quite ready. Perhaps they go for more of the scrapheap type over more middle of the road MLB starters like Garcia or Cashner, but its not like those guys are going to break the bank. The positional players are more of a stretch. But we know KW has always liked CarGo. Maybe they decide to go with Gillaspie or a rotating DH, which I am not against, but its not like there isn't room in the lineup for a veteran bat to plug in at DH on a 1 year deal. CF is a disaster. I personally think they'll let Leury have the job and put Delmonico in LF (which again I am fine with), but adding a real CF, and shifting Leury to LF and Delmonico into a LF/DH/1B/3B utility role wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Again...just spitballing.
  16. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 6, 2017 -> 01:53 PM) Why would the Sox do any of that? Also Brantly is not a free agent. Even with those moves we still will not be a much better team in 2018 than in 2017. Cleveland has a stanglehold on the division, and I don't see that roster being capable of 85+ wins to get a wildcard. We want payroll flexibility going into next offseason with the best free agent class in a decade. I think I made it pretty clear that I was just spitballing. And I disagree heavily that the Sox wouldn't improve over 2017 with that roster. Good enough to compete with the Indians? Probably not. But who the hell thought the Twins were this past season? They don't give up any of the future by doing this. Payroll would still be below $100M. If the Sox operate with like a $60-65M payroll next season, I am far from convinced that the $40-50M saved over their average payroll of the past decade is going to just be "saved" for the next few seasons. As for Brantley, I forgot the Indians picked up his option...go ahead and put Carlos Gomez in there instead (though I'd prefer Brantley if he were available).
  17. I don't in anyway expect the Sox to do it, but it'd be a fun to see them drop some $$ on short term deals and try to be decent. Carlos Gonzalez - 1 Year - $10M Michael Brantley - 2 Years - $17M Andrew Cashner or Jaimie Garcia - 2 Year - $18M Hector Rondon - 2 Year - $11M Anthony Swarzak - 2 years - $10M Howie Kendrick - 1 year - $7M Lineup: Michael Brantley CF Yolmer Sanchez 3B Yoan Moncada 2B Jose Abreu 1B Carlos Gonzalez DH Avi Garcia RF Leury Garcia LF Welington Castillo C Tim Anderson SS BN: Kendrick, Delmonico, Narvaez, Engel Rotation: Giolito, Lopez, Cashner/Garcia, Fulmer, Shields (Rodon over Shields when healthy, Fulmer to pen when Kopech is ready) BP: Rondon, Swarzak, Jones, Farquhar, Minaya, Infante, Vieria, Bummer That could be a pretty decent team, doesn't hamstring them at all for the future, and if things don't go well, can still trade Avi and Abreu, in addition to the new arrivals. Again, this isn't really a prediction as I doubt the Sox go this directio, but I wouldn't be against seeing something like this.
  18. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 02:58 PM) If we traded for Kelly, why not eventually flip one of Collins/Zavala for pitching? Or, even include one in the Kelly deal to maximize the return. I personally think the trade would be redundant, as Collins is a fine prospect, but pulling the trigger would cause a prospect logjam. agreed. Especially with the Castillo signing, not sure catcher is our top priority. I am not shying away from Kelly, but just not sure that should be the Sox focus.
  19. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 02:13 PM) Robert is a fringe guy? Obviously not a fringe guy..momentarily brain lapse on my part, but still...Rutherford and Robert are a long way away (until they prove they aren't). I wouldn't shy away from acquiring talented OF prospects just yet. I would, however, put LHP and 3B as a higher priority.
  20. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 01:59 PM) I really don’t see a need to add O’Neil. The system is absolutely loaded with OFs, acquiring him would be another example of diminishing returns. Kelly is definitely interesting though. He’d be pretty much a must in any Abreu deal. Loaded with OF may be a bit of an exaggeration. We've got Eloy and Rutherford (who is a long way away), and a handful of fringe guys.
  21. They should draft that Guerrero guy with the 4th pick.
  22. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Dec 2, 2017 -> 03:40 PM) Sox got rid of dead weight---good for them! But those idiots kept Sanchez! The outrage! The stupidity!
  23. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 01:38 PM) We could have fit some of the others on since some will be non-tendered today. yes...still think it was a curious move not protecting Peter and Guerrero, and Polo to a lesser degree. Pretty sure Alburquerque will be non tendered today, and Hanson and May would have been easy cuts.
  24. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 01:15 PM) I don't think it means that at all. Teams need two catchers. Castillo would not be blocking Flowers, they could easily both be on team together.
  25. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 12:40 PM) 2 years/$15 million, $8 million club option in year 3 @JeffPassan Sources: Welington Castillo's deal with the White Sox is for $15 million guaranteed. It's a two-year deal with a club option for $8 million in the third year. @Ken_Rosenthal had the deal done first. this deal just got better.
