White Sox exploring Nobuhiro Matsuda
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 11:57 AM) Didn't know we won the WS in 2012. Hahaha, Fukudome. I completely forgot about that.

White Sox exploring Nobuhiro Matsuda
Older and doesn't walk much. I'd definitely be interested in he's fairly cheap, though. Better that that giving up assets to get a guy like Lawrie.

White Sox targeting OF Justin Upton
QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 10:08 PM) Please don't tell me that you would spend all that money on a guy like Hayward, and then have a lineup with Adam LaRoche batting cleanup!!!! I don't want to see him anywhere near the heart of the order. Hah, get ready to be disappointed because if he's on threat, he'll like be batting 4,5 or 6. On the team* not threat. Damn autocorrect

Misc. Sox Quotes & Tweets
QUOTE (kevo880 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 08:45 PM) I wasn't suggesting that they give him away. I just don't see anyone giving up much for him. From the sounds of it Oakland is looking for pitching in a trade for lawrie so I doubt we would have a package built around Avi for him. Fair enough. Maybe it was the "if they can get someone to take Avi..." comment.

White Sox targeting OF Justin Upton
QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 08:38 PM) Perhaps, but I think that a cleanup hitter remains the biggest priority. Therefore, the guy they get better fill that hole. If you get a guy who is going to hit somewhere else in the lineup, who bats cleanup, behind Abreu? Not saying you don't acquire someone who fits well in the cleanup spot, but OF defense is far important in my opinion. For instance, Upton would probably be a more prototypical 4 hole hitter but Heyward would be a much better pickup due to his elite defense. Both are very nice bats, obviously.

White Sox targeting OF Justin Upton
QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 08:16 PM) If the Sox spend the kind of money needed to acquire someone like Upton, Hayward or Gordon, that would preclude any other big signings. Therefore, unless they are willing to trade a starting pitcher, the guy whom they sign better be their much needed clean up hitter. Who would fill that role better, Upton or Hayward? Upton, but that's a narrow way to analyze the situation.

QUOTE (kevo880 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 07:12 PM) This makes me happy, but at the same time, other than Rodon they are the only players that will lead to a major shake up in a trade. Makes it sound like we will see much of the same as 2015 in 2016. Expect mediocre upgrades at 3rd base and maybe OF if they can get someone to take Avi... Avi is not going to be given away. The Sox will happily park him down in AAA or on the bench to start the year if upgrades are made elsewhere in the OF that push him out of the starting lineup. It's always nice to have a guy with his upside around. That doesn't mean they won't move him they can get someone like Lawrie for him.

White Sox targeting OF Justin Upton
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 04:11 PM) I could see them doing something similar to this although I'm still not sure if that is a playoff caliber team. Yep me too. I'd still prefer Heyward over Upton, though.

Red Sox - Mariners trade
Miley is a much better pitcher than he showed last year.

White Sox targeting OF Justin Upton
QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 12:42 PM) He's been on three teams. The team that drafted him started to suck so they traded him. Then the team he got traded to changed FOs and started a rebuild. Unless you have an actual reason to put an indictment on Upton you shouldn't, because your logic is flawed here. It usually is, no?

Why NOT trade Chris Sale?
QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 11:23 AM) and he is a fa in 3 yrs I am saying Sale has an additional year of control (4), versus Fernandez 3 years.

Why NOT trade Chris Sale?
QUOTE (Knackattack @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 10:56 AM) I think Sale should be more valuable than Fernandez.. that guy can't stay healthy and Sale has been doing it at a high level for a longer time in the more difficult AL Plus he is under control for an additional year.

Is Tyler Saladino the new starting SS???
As of now, yes. For whatever thats worth.
-
why not go for Brett lawrie?
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 06:42 AM) Addison Russell and Josh Donaldson. Beane turned that into Marcus Semien and Danny Valencia. Danny Valencia was claimed off waivers and completely unrelated to the Donaldson trade. But the A's did get Lawrie in the Donaldson trade.

White Sox targeting OF Justin Upton
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 10:14 PM) If it is the one we gained from Jeff's signing, technically we don't lose or gain anything which IMO makes it worth it. But to me you HAVE to get rid of LaRoche or Avi if we sign an OF whichever one you don't trade is probably the DH or Melky Avi can be optioned.

White Sox targeting OF Justin Upton
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 09:54 PM) Would much rather pay 75 million more to upgrade both hitting and our atrocious OF defense than pay our biggest contract ever and ensure that our defense will be awful for a long time. Very tired of this video game approach to improving the white sox. Agree, but let be real, the Sox aren't signing Heyward. He may cost over $200M.

White Sox targeting OF Justin Upton
QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 09:37 PM) Just curious... Who was the last hitting prospect the Sox actually developed? How many on the current projected roster? I think those answers should show that if KW/RH are to want to sign a guy like Upton & give up a pick that isn't even an original pick, why not do it? This team can't keep wasting this pitching to wait on hitters/position players they can't develop. Hey, I get it... This team is frustrating but I'm not going to fault them for adding talent to a needy roster. Well said. Basically punting the next two seasons like some here suggest just lose two controllable and cheap years of our stars and narrows the window.

White Sox targeting OF Justin Upton
QUOTE (spiderman @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 09:28 PM) Don't think giving up the draft picks is a smart strategy. This team needs as many of them as possible. Rebuilding that minor league systems should be a TOP priority. As for Upton, if they were to do this, why is this a good / bad move? Why type of contract would he get? I know he's another high strike out guy, but with high HR potential. Is he a good defensive player? The White Sox do need more thunder in the lineup, but why him over Heyward, for example (I realize there are different skill sets). Average at best defensively. Heyward is a much better fit but will be $75M+ more expensive.

White Sox targeting OF Justin Upton
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 09:24 PM) Just build. Kenny Williams (and this has Williams written all over it) is ridiculously obsolete. This stuff doesn't work. But the Sox do it year after year after year. Where does Trayce fit into this? They don't even have the patience to find out if 2015 was at least somewhat real? He could decline .100 OPS points and still really help the team. Your choices of words are often comical. Williams is obsolete?? Haha whaaaaa

Winter Meetings: Predictions
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 08:19 PM) He's connected to the Sox too..... I'd love Upton. Always been a fan of him. Heyward is obviously going to be more expensive than Upton, but he is just such a better fit for this team. Upton is a solid player but he's at best mediocre in the field and Ks a ton. I just don't think he fits all that well on this team. Heyward on the other hand... But signing Upton would signal that the Sox plan to contend, and I like that.

Why NOT trade Chris Sale?
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 06:22 PM) Santana's value was higher than Sale's. The difference is going to be contracts. The argument is that his contract is worth at least a 3rd top 10 prospect in baseball. I'm arguing it's really not. Santana was already the sure fire best pitcher in baseball and best of his generation at the time. It's the equivalent of Clayton Kershaw being traded by the Dodgers right now. There's nothing that says his contract is worth 2 extra great prospects. That's ludicrous. Your logic is ludicrous. And wrong.
