White Sox @ Angels 9:05 PM CST
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 01:19 PM) Just to put some numbers on things.... The average OPS amongst 3b in baseball in 2015 is .743. The average OPS amongst SS is .677. Tyler is currently at .634. He's currently on pace that over a full season he'd strike out 140-150 times and walk only 30 times, so there's room to grow into this league with time. But if we look at his numbers right now...if he's an average or better SS defensively his bat as we've seen it right now comes close to playing. But even as a solid defender...he has a long, long way to go to become a tolerable bat at 3b. I think he can play long-term at SS. I don't think on this roster we have the firepower to afford him at 3b. Depends who the SS is.

Matt Davidson named Best Defensive 3B
I thought he was pretty much a butcher over there. Somewhat encouraging news, I suppose.

The Next Wave: Prospects who just missed the Top 30
Seeing four catchers in that list is good.

Albers
He is pretty good. His sinker is nasty.

Looks like Conor picked up chewing again.

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 03:48 PM) Regardless, the unbalanced schedule is a travesty. So is divisional play. I agree that unbalanced schedules are an absolute joke. But the Royals aren't part of the unbalanced schedules among division foes.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 03:19 PM) Six more against the Royals? My god. Baseball's unbalanced schedule is a travesty. That's five more losses right there. You play every team in your division the same amount of times (19), as does every team in the division. So you continue to be clueless.

LAA VS CWS 7:10CDT (Heaney vs Danks)
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 12:34 PM) Yikes, Conor must be annoyed that we put out 3 lefties for this series... but with our rotation, you have to expect that. He's batting .185 with LAAA, so the bench is where he belongs.

QUOTE (kapzk @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 12:52 PM) Toronto is going to be running away with that division not the wildcard, so we are chasing two teams. I am not sold on the Yankees playing so well late into the season as they have begun to struggle. True. The Yanks pitching is bad without Pineda, but that offense. I think the Yankees will win more than 87 games.

Wild Card Watch 2015
QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 10:06 AM) You can tell the excitement and hope in this team has worn off quickly. When we were 4.5 back of the Twins everybody was posting and getting excited. 2 wins, going for the sweep tonight against the Angels and only a few naive hopefuls like me remain. I haven't watched since Sunday - probably the first back to back games I haven't watched a second of (other than highlights) this season. This weekend really killed it for me, and I just need a couple days off of the frustration. But a win tonight (I will be watching), and my excitement will pique a bit. But really, the chances are so very slim, and this team hasn't given me much to believe that their last 50 games will be somewhere in the ballpark of 15-20 games over .500, because that is likely what they'll need. Can they go 34-17 for 87 wins? Or maybe 32-19 for 85? I don't think 85 gets it done. What has really killed it for me is Toronto just running away. There is now pretty much only 1 WC spot up for grabs - two weeks ago I would have said the same thing though - but with LAAA firmly in. Things can change, but i don't see Toronto going 23-25 or worse to close out the year.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 09:56 AM) Would that really make him a permanent Sox hero? If so that'd be pretty lame. Agreed. I am a die-hard Sox fan, and I don't give two f***s about the Cubs. That is primarily because I didn't grow up in Chicago, but to throw all Sox fans in the same boat as caring more about the Cubs losing than the Sox winning isn't really fair.

Bonifacio starting rehab stint
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 11, 2015 -> 03:01 PM) Charlotte Knights @KnightsBaseball 57m57 minutes ago .@whitesox Emilio Bonifacio to begin a #MLB Rehab assignment with #CLTKnights tonight. Cleuluis Rondon assigned back to @WSDashBaseball. Stay there until September (don't think that is possible, but do it anyway).

Potential Ventura replacements
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 11, 2015 -> 01:13 AM) If Hahn can dump Shark, LaRoche, Melky, Robertson, Duke and Lexi I'll be a happy camper for starters. I haven't read much of this thread, but I'd be shocked in Ventura isn't the manager in 2016.

Wild Card Watch 2015
QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 11:40 AM) Yes, it was fun. Since mid-june, I 've found our games at least entertaining baseball. But, man, it is incredible to me that as of last Sunday, i had thought we may still get a chance at the playoffs, and one week later that's all over. Queue 6 game win streak. With the moves Toronto made (and seeing how hot they are now), even if the Sox were .500 right now, it'd be over.

If nothing else, it made baseball fun to watch again for about 10 days.

8/9 at KC Royals
QUOTE (AlSoxfan @ Aug 9, 2015 -> 10:47 AM) No Cain in the line up for KC. Thats good news Cain is batting .357 off lefties this season and is 5 for 8 with two doubles against Quintana this year. strange day to give him off.

Potential waiver trades
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 03:22 PM) No way. He probably will get traded after he clears, but the Red Sox are picking up a lot of the $$$$, and not getting much back. We'll see if the Rangers claimed him... Means the Sox passed though.

8/7 at KC Royals
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 05:31 PM) I feel like Greg thinks we'll never win another game against the Royals again. He predicts us to be swept every series against them. I'm not convinced her doesn't root for the Royals.

Indians and Braves make a trade
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 02:55 PM) That is bad contract for bad contract. The equivalent for us would be something like Danks for Either. Which I think everyone would be on board for.

Indians and Braves make a trade
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 02:37 PM) Indians get: Johnson Braves get: Swisher, Bourn and $15 mill. How come no one can ever help is out? I think it is $10M, not $15M.

Potential waiver trades
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 01:20 PM) I know they won't but that doesn't change anything I said. No risk putting in/winning a claim. The team that wins does not have to have interest in working out a deal. I realize that. And you responded to a message saying "why would the A's or Red Sox have any interest in adding a pending FA", not "why would the A's or Red Sox ever put in a claim on a pending FA".

Sox have tried to sign Samardzija to a long term deal
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 12:38 PM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/08/heym...es-marlins.html Don't let Caulfield see this! It will ruin his narrative!
-
Potential waiver trades
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 01:15 PM) Because thats what teams do. They can put in a claim, win it, and then not pursue a deal blocking other teams from making a play at him. A's or BoSox have nothing to lose doing so. Claiming to block, and claiming to acquire are different things. Obviously the Sox aren't going to just let Shark go for salary relief.
-
Potential waiver trades
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 03:41 PM) I'd say unlikely. Hell if I'm the Red Sox or A's, teams with first dibs, I claim him. Hope for the very long shot of a salary dump and take the comp pick. Why would hte A's and Red Sox have any interest in adding a pending FA? There would be no comp pick to a team trading for Shark. Pending FA who get traded lose the comp pick.
