Jay Bruce
QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 03:48 PM) While we would like to consider them competent, the best WAR in the outfield is currently Adam Eaton at 0.0. Additionally, not one of them has a wRC+ over 93 or an ISO over 140. Not worried about Melky. He had a tough first couple months, a lot of which is attributable to bad luck. Sure, his power has been hard to find, but pretty much everyone in the lineups has been. Melky will earn his contract when all is said and done. I also don't worry about Eaton - just a tough year so far. Bruce is a fine player, but he really isn't the type of the guy the Sox should add. I do agree with you general sentiment though - that being, the Sox need to figure out C, 3B and RF/or DH this offseason. I personally am not ready to kick the can on Avi, so Bruce to me doesn't make a ton of sense. But as I said earlier, if they're willing to trade basically as a salary dump with maybe a B level prospect going back, it starts to make a little sense. But I just don't see that as likely, and Bruce is the type of player that have not worked out well for the Sox at all in recent history.

Jay Bruce
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 02:08 PM) I'd trade Melky and LaRoche for Bruce, nobody else except guys like Beckham and Boni and Conor and nobody wants those stiffs. You make lots of posts that make me laugh.

Jay Bruce
QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 01:33 PM) I know a lot of people are a hard pass on Bruce, but this might be a good time to strike on him. His stock seems to be down and the Reds are not interested in paying any of his remaining salary. When I look at him versus our current RF situation, Bruce has a better ISO, BB%, better wOBA, and much better defensive defensive metrics than Avi. I realize he is a strikeout machine, but this team is in desparate need of power/offense and improving their holes on defense. If a package might be able to be centered around Avi and a prospect, I think this is something that the Sox should look at. Meh. Depends what you'd have to give up. Not a huge Bruce fan, but if they want to give him away for someone taking on his salary and maybe a B prospect, I'd be more interested. Doubt that'll happen.

What will Sox front office do ?
QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 10:51 AM) To reiterate what soxfan2014 said, with teams losing their first round picks due to signing players who received qualifying offers, the comp round is dipping into the late first round now. Furthermore, with the amount of free agents this summer that should be receiving QO's, the Samardzija pick could come in anywhere between the late 20's, early 30's. There is a lot of talent to be had there and the Sox really shouldn't settle for anything less than they could get at that slot. Don't worry, they wont.

What will Sox front office do ?
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 10:50 AM) I agree - Q fits this team - he's a ground ball pitcher. Shark doesn't. I don't think he gets $25 million, though Move Shark soon - it's a seller's market NOW....but it may not be in 2 weeks. Get Erik Johnson up here and see what he can do. It is going to be a seller's market regardless. The Sox will hold onto Shark for at least another week. Patience, lad. If the Sox don't get what they want for Shark anyways, he won't be traded and they'll grab a pick in the 30s. I would have liked the looks of things a lot better if we were 2 under going into the ASB, but go take 3/4 from KC to start the 2nd half and let's see revisit in late July. The Sox play to win.

Sale pitching in AS Game in Emergency situation ONLY
Chris wants to pitch, so he should pitch. 1 inning will be fine and Monday would have been a side session day anyway. I see no problem with letting the world see just how filthy this guy is.

White Sox call up Tyler Saladino
QUOTE (BigFinn @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 12:06 PM) Before everybody jumps in on the "I hate Rick Hahn because he signed Emilio Bonifacio" bandwagon, I would like to point out that many people on this board were asking for Bonifacio BEFORE he was signed this past off-season. Myself, included. Yep. I was definitely one of those. It made too much sense. I also didn't think Beckham would be back, and thought Bonifacio would be a 3B against LHP (and back-up player everywhere else) - which hasn't really been the case at all.

White Sox call up Tyler Saladino
Like it.

Leury Garcia
QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 01:46 PM) I've never been more surprised by anything than Leury's meh defense last year. Usually scouting doesn't miss on that. Playing consistently helps with that...

Mark Buehrle
It was time for Buerhls to move on when he did. But I wouldn't be against trading Quintana for king's ransom (hopefully mainly positional players) and signing Buehrle to a 2 year $15-20M deal this offseason. I don't think he makes much sense in the rotation if Sale, Rodon and Q are all in it already.

Cardinals interested in LaRoche?
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 12:52 PM) No one will take him unless the Sox contribute $$. Maybe so, but $13M remains a fairly reasonable rate to pay a guy to hit .250ish with 20+ bombs and 80 or RBI. The bigger issue for the Cards is that Matt Adams will be back next year and then there is no where to play LaRoche. I think the Sox will actually be able to find a taker for LaRoche, if they're fine getting virtually nothing useful in return besides salary relief. Honestly, I'd be fine with that. I don't really like watching him play all that much, although I am fairly certain he'll be much better in the 2nd half than he has been in the first.

Micah Johnson sent to Charlotte AAA
QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 10:05 AM) I'm torn on this topic. Obviously the upside to Sanchez is his defense. How many double plays has he turned that Micah wouldn't have? How many balls has he snagged that Micah wouldn't have? How many saved runs has he had on defensecompared to how many runs have we let up with him at the plate instead of Micah? Also, Emilio has been awful? I don't know if I agree with that thought process. Last year he had 430AB, 26 SB, was able to play around the field, etc. The year before he had 460AB, 28SB, year before 30SB, the year before 40SB -- you get my point in a way. Basically since 2011 he's averaged 400AB a year with other MLB teams .... why do the Sox find him so worthless when our combined 2B stats are .192BA?? I don't get how he hasn't got an extended look there yet ....I actually think he gives us the best chance to win at 2B, he's not one of the polar opposites in Sanchez (great D, terrible O) or Johnson (okay O, terrible D). My opinion -- let Emilio get a look at 2B, keep Sanchez up, let him rest and recoup. Maybe try Sanchez one more time near the end of July if Emilio isn't working out --- or as Emilio is gaining trade value --- and then if Sanchez doesn't seize that opportunity let's hope that Micah has learned some fundamentals on D. It is sort of strange. But I suppose since two of the Sox more MLB-ready prospects are 2B, they'd rather get them the reps over there. But it is surprising that they haven't at least given him an extended run of ABs at 2B..what is there to lose?

Micah Johnson sent to Charlotte AAA
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 09:54 AM) Maybe his defense wouldn't be as harmful at 3B? Doubt that...and he's never even played an inning over there. Not gonna happen.

Samardzija Trade Packages
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 09:01 AM) The Cubs are not going to trade Baez for 2 months of Samardjiza. The cubs wont be trading for Shark, period.

No LaRoche against Lefties please...
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 02:03 PM) Nope. If Soto PH for the DH, and moved to C, the pitcher hits. Correct. You basically lose the DH.

7/7 Games
QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 12:46 PM) man, he surprise the crap out of me, meaning his success. i am wondering, when the lineup gets expanded, how he would do pitching to mlb players. i will be stoke about that. Umm...he's already been up to Chicago this year and faced MLB hitters.

Samardzija Trade Packages
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 11:23 AM) Urias is the #3 prospect in baseball, c'mon, you'd be lucky to get him if you offered Quintana. I'd rather have the proven LHP who is locked up longterm on a team friendly deal if a 1-1 swap.

No LaRoche against Lefties please...
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 10:59 AM) And who is that hitter going to be? Example of a hypothetical scenario? Just an example, I am not necessarily saying they should do it: Trade LaRoche to the Cardinals who pick up his whole salary and give us a lottery ticket. Sox sign Chris Davis in the offseason to be their DH for the next four years. Napoli and Morneau would be other options. None of them are perfect, for sure.

No LaRoche against Lefties please...
QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 10:42 AM) Would be a pure salary dump at this point. I would rather see if he can rebound in the 2nd half. No real reason not to, it's not like he is blocking anyone. Fine. If they take on all his salary for this year and next, just cut your losses and sign a real DH in the offseason.

No LaRoche against Lefties please...
I am hoping the Cardinals take LaRoche of our hands in the coming weeks.

Samardzija Trade Packages
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 10:10 AM) Dude if the Jays offer Hoffman, we should either accept before we get off the phone or hang up immediately and asssume something's wrong with him. Reports on Hoffman since he's come back have been nothing short of glowing -- he's almost definitely the top prospect in that system. Dude, I am not saying I don't want Hoffman, you take the best player available, but my point is that the Sox should be targeting guys that can help on the offensive side. Our pitching rotation is in pretty good shape now and looking forward.

7/7 Games
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 7, 2015 -> 10:04 PM) I still think they gave up on Micah way too quickly. Was his defense really costing us a lot of runs? I really can't recall him be THAT horrible in order to sacrifice him for a .160 hitter His D was pretty terrible. He cost the Sox at least a few games early on.

Samardzija Trade Packages
QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 09:41 AM) Hoffman for Samardzija makes a lot of sense for both sides. Hoffman isn't a can't miss prospect, but the Sox loved him in the draft and he still has the potential to be a #4-#5 starter in a year or so and could eventually reach his #2 starter potential again. His numbers are starting to improve, as he has 14 K's in his last 15.2 IP with 4 BB's and only 3 ER. Sox need hitting. I wouldn't mind taking back a pitcher, but the Sox excel at developing pitching. They should trade for offensive players!

Samardzija Trade Packages
QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 7, 2015 -> 04:20 PM) Because Sano is the future at the position I doubt Sano ever plays more than a 50 games a season at 3B. He'll be such a liability over there. He's a 1B or DH - which is problematic for the Twins because they already have Mauer, Vargas and Arcia who are also 1B/DH types.

White Sox Winner!
But Balta! And Dayan Viciedo. Edit: was supposed to include Quote of Melky stats the past month.
