Astros interested in Abreu?
Betts and Benintendi can both play center. Pick one and put Avi in that corner spot.

Astros interested in Abreu?
Or with JBJ’s struggles, I bet they look at Avi.

Winston-Salem up 4-1. Rutherford 2 hits off a left hander. No Luis Robert tonight.

Didn't they just promote Lambert?

Yeah, but an adverb without a verb? Aren't we better than that as a nation?

Gun Violence in America
The immigration issue is going to be a continuing problem because of the country’s declining birth rate. Without substantial immigration, U.S. economy is going to stagnate/decline. We have easily absorbed millions of immigrants for just that reason. There are people in business who argue that the U.S. is underpopulated to compete with the E.U. and China; that the population should be much closer to 400 million. Now, it would be easy to attract that many people by simultaneously opening up our legal immigration channels to somewhat match demand while making it tougher for illegal immigrants to find work. Unfortunately, that would be extremely unpopular with roughly 25% of the population. These people, mostly rural folks, want to restrict even legal immigration, mostly for cultural reasons. They’d prefer we attract Trump’s mythical Norwegians. But because our system isn’t particularly democratic, they wield outsize power, especially when it comes to immigration policy. So what we have done is to create a black market in immigration and now we’ve launched the equivalent of prohibition or the War on Drugs on immigrants. I believe it’s not going to work in a million years and is going to get waaay uglier than it is now.

Nice video on Future Sox Twitter of Eloy talking about his homer and game winning hit in English. His English is pretty darned good.

It’s Game Day in Chicago 6/24 A’s and Sox
This is also what Carlos looked like during his rehab stint. He was throwing a ton of strikes.

Race for the worst 2018 record (Top 5 pick) again
I was struck by this too, but it makes some sense. Only someone whose public morality track record was unassailable could weather the criticism, and a born-again Christian may look at second chances differently. Personally, I don't want the Sox to sign him and the whole thing makes me queasy, but you can see where Moore might be exactly the guy to take this kind of risk.

Poor Dunning. He was having such a great year. On the bright side an elbow is better than a shoulder. Strange, we considered Dunning with the Burdi pick, now they both hurt their elbows

I noticed that too. I assume it's cuz they clinched last night.

Make sense. We couldn’t sign high end players, and the promising outfielders from last year’s team are all stateside.

2018 White Sox catch-all thread
Palka will probably take Nicky Delmonico's playing time. Plenty of at bat's for Leury in center for now.

How do the newly drafted players fit into the white sox top prospect list?
I’m not convinced that Cease’s command is really an issue. He’s actually quite consistent out of the wind up. Usually, his trouble is one inning and has to do with adjusting to pitching out of the stretch. Plus, some of his walk total comes from minor league umps having trouble staying with that breaking ball, which is a monster. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out at higher levels. I am confident because of how athletic he is. He’s like a shortstop on the mound.

2018 MiLB White Sox news and notes
I think the goal is to keep Philadelphia from knowing how much you want Madrigal. If they are split between Madrigal and Bohm, which it seems they were, then you don’t want your strong interest to tip the scales. Also, you have to negotiate with Madrigal before you pick him. It’s helpful if his adviser doesn’t know he’s number 2 on your board.

White Sox select Nick Madrigal with 4th overall pick
Ha ha. Right. I agree.
