Andrew Vaughn and Eloy: what's the plan here?
Highland replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think Vaughn is a decent first baseman, and I see no problem with giving him another year to prove himself as a hitter. The team is going nowhere in 2024 anyway. They can concentrate on improving themselves elsewhere and have some hope for Vaughn. -
A change of scenery would be good for both Tim and the White Sox. McGuffy comes across as arrogant and not likeable in this podcast. I wasn't aware that he knew everything about baseball.
-
I don't know what is going on in the White Sox organization right now, but they need to take this decline seriously. Blaming the fans or being bitter is not going to solve anything. They have to find a way to do something constructive this off season. Things are not going to turn around in one year, but they have to show they are committed to turning this thing around and take positive actions now. Another 100-loss season isn't going to cut it.

This team is going to lose 90 plus games...
Highland replied to LittleHurtCG's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Just think. The idea of losing 90 was depressing enough. Not looking forward to the next season. Or the next one after that. -
I don't think the Sox will improve the team through any trade. You're right, most teams do not want any players from this team. Why would they? The Sox lost 101, and with the exception of Robert, nobody had a great year. There may not a lot in the free agent market, but that is where the Sox will need to go, at least for a pitcher. They cannot go into the next season with this rotation. But these are the White Sox.
-
It would help matters if the Sox had a good offseason. They have to make significant moves. I just don't know if they have the means or ability to do it.
-
The strange thing is that I don't think the FO fully realizes how much credibility they have lost with the fans. I don't know if that's just tone deafness or arrogance. But they staked their reputation on something and that something didn't work.

ESPN ranked White Sox season #30 last in MLB with an F ranking.

For me as a fan, this has been the worst season. Not just from the win-loss viewpoint. It is hard to be optimistic. It is hard to imagine a winning season in the near future. -

41-10. A lot closer than I thought. -

Stopped watching after the first quarter. This is not a real NFL team. Maybe the Chiefs can score 70. -
Shaw did a great job. That second hit he gave up should have been caught. NIce strike out to end it.

Somehow, I can't get excited about Salvy Perez.

Don't worry. They have prospects. Everything will be fine. -

I believe this is the 18th time the Sox have given up runs in double digits. When was the last time they won a series? Glad I decided not to watch this game today. This season can't end fast enough. I can't see how they can avoid 100 losses. Maybe Clevinger will be arrogant enough to point to the scoreboard again. -

Offense looked worse in person. Vaughn looked like he had no clue. They honored the Winning Ugly team but hardly anyone responded. The place was so empty, and many people probably had no memory of the 1983 team. It was sad actually. That was a hell of a team. They mentioned LaRussa and Baines as Hall of Famers on that team but said nothing about Fisk who is also in the Hall of Fame. The Sox didn't even look competitive. I'll be surprised if they don't lose 100. The bottom of the lineup was nothing but automatic outs. -

I am going with my daughter to the game today. We had a great deal of fun going to the games when she was growing up. This bad team can't take that away. -

Just think. The thought of losing 90 was bad. We didn't know how bad things were. 100 is on the horizon. -
A few years ago, it looked like the offense would be truly formidable. But Anderson is no longer the catalyst he once was. Eloy has actually hit the ball fairly well since the ASB, but his power hasn't been there. It all adds up to a team that cannot afford to get behind. But, with this pitching staff, it is often behind. This offense just won't scare anyone.
-
The team has quit, starting with Anderson. Yes, it is hard to believe that Grifol is keeping his job. But, you have to remember, this is the White Sox we are talking about.
-
It is painful to watch Kopech now. HIs slider has no bite, and his fast ball isn't that good. He is getting more frustrated by the day, and his confidence has to be waning with every appearance. Maybe he should have gone to the minors with Colas.
-
I do think they are attempting to send a message to the fans, too, because of criticism that no one is held accountable. Just like when Getz made the quick decision to keep Grifol. Getz was attempting to show he was acting independently of JR when the opposite was thought, at least by some. Lot of message sending here. I don't think it is hitting home.
-
This is what I mean. It is only the rookies. Suddenly Grifol is doing the tough guy role when it is way too late for that. The season was lost in April.
