Underperforming teams often develop a poor clubhouse atmosphere as the pressure mounts and blame for the poor performances can create cliques with different players blaming others. But that is one of the key jobs of any manager and coaching team to ensure the clubhouse atmosphere is good whilst maintaining clear professional standards.

A team where the manager has lost the clubhouse will develop cliques and play sloppy games where they appear disinterested, especially when that manager clearly has favourites and bizarre line up decisions.

Not saying I want him back but at least under Renteria the players seemed happy whilst at the same time Renteria tried to instill in them basic standards of professionalism.

What’s Terry Bevington up to these days?  Or Jerry Manuel?  Certainly they’ve learned a thing or two since they last managed, let’s line them up as the next retread succession tour ??.

The selective memory / wilful ignorance from those still pining for Ozzie 15 years later make my brain hurt.  Let’s all pretend he wasn’t completely awful the last few years of his tenure here, and that a decade+ removed from the dugout he’d magically be exactly the same guy pulling the right strings as he was in 2005.  Get real.

Actually The Villages is a pretty active place, TLR wouldn't fit in.

The best manager arrangements now are an alignment between following PD and analytics / strategy from FO and a manager strong at relationships with players and tactics.

But because Sox are so bad at the former they’ll need to keep swinging for the dying breed of superstar managers.

Sox really are stuck without a clean FO reset, and considering who would be hiring that, there is really not much we can hope for.

Ricky was a pretty poor game day manager, but I don’t think anyone can say he didn’t have his clubs ready to play every day, or that he was bad in the clubhouse.  There seemed to be a genuine camaraderie on & off the field, even when there were still growing pains.  Night and day difference from the vibes we’ve gotten from day 1 under TLR.

I liked R.R. and really hated the hiring of TLR, I hate it even more starting with the All Star break last year, maybe earlier when he threw Yermin under the bus.

We don't know if TLR is the cause of the dissension on the team but it sure wouldn't surprise me as the players have to be scratching their heads as much as we are with all the bizarre moves by him.

Getting rid of TLR can only help this team. Whether or not he’s responsible for all, most, or some of the issues, he’s a moron that has had the game pass him by. Haven’t you heard? It’s a lack of player leadership that is the problem. The only solution is to get rid of guys who aren’t buying into Tony’s system and find more guys who are.

TLR is kind of like the deaf basketball coach in the movie Van Wilder, just mumbling saying a bunch of nonsense while Van Wilder is drawing up the game winning play on the chalkboard behind him 

Showalter and Baker continuing to get a lot, if not all, out of the talented teams they take over shows their is a talent to managing. Same with Tito.

TLR showing everyone that the Cards are a really good org (that benefits from the league feeding them extra talent every year)

I don't disagree with your general premise, but you're giving a lot of credit to a mouthpiece. Pretending that Nightengale "validated" this leak before rolling with it is laughable.

Oh I gotcha. So our entire team is a clique with the coaching staff, Hahn, and JR. Well, except of course Cease at the moment.

I thought it was laughable when Ozzie was asking for a four-year extension as the 2011 season was ending. Of course, that was what the Marlins were offering, and he thought he should get the same from the White Sox. The fact is he should have been fired when he mouthed off about Sox fans urinating on the statues in the outfield concourse.

When LaRussa finally leaves, the replacement should have no prior connection to the White Sox and that really means Ozzie.

It was really, really obvious that the Sox front office had a modern baseball mind in mind when Rick Hahn got up on Zoom and talked about his ideal manager to replace RR.  They spent all of those years suffering through shitty baseball after stripping this to the studs and rebuilding.  The last thing Rick and Kenny want to see is this ruined by a mismatch of manager and players.  Maybe they lost the behind the scenes fight with Jerry, but now they are trying to win the battle of public opinion.

Besides close to 100% of the fan base, who could have seen this coming the day they hired TLR?!
