If they are planning to try Eloy in LF, than it makes sense. Vaughn does not make sense beyond say 20 - 30 games a year. What you can’t have is a bad RF, and than means 0 games for Vaughn / Sheets next year in RF. I rather DFA Pollock (would have a month ago so he couldn’t vest $2M more and counting) and keep the three solid hitters, spend the money in 2B and SP (and RF if they aren’t bringing up Colas).

Also don’t agree with playing service time manipulation with Colas, start him on OD, or whenever he is ready to play, sign an actual RF if you don’t think he’ll be ready first half of the season. Don’t piss away 2-3 + losses with Sheets or other bad players.

Why in the world would you DFA pollock? Makes no sense. You’re paying him anyway and he absolutely rakes LHP, is a perfect Colas platoon partner and great injury insurance for the roster.

I think you get substantially more for Vaughn than Eloy.

If that is reality, I would do it in a heartbeat. Other FOs  see Eloy with an elite bat and acceptable defense, with health being the primary concern. They see Vaughn as someone with less offensive potential and absolutely zero defensive ability beyond playing DH, possibly also PT 1B.

Clase leading the world in saves.

Clase signed with the San Diego Padres as an international free agent on February 11, 2015 for a $125,000 signing bonus.[2] He played for the DSL Padres in 2015, going 2–1 with a 1.99 ERA in 54 innings. In 2016 he played for the AZL Padres, going 2–0 with a 4.01 ERA in 24+2⁄3 innings. In 2017 he played for the AZL Padres (2), going 2–4 with a 5.30 ERA in 35+2⁄3 innings, and in one game with the Tri-City Dust Devils of the Class A Short Season Northwest League, allowing 5 runs in 3+1⁄3 innings.[2]

Texas Rangers[edit]

On May 7, 2018, the Padres traded Clase to the Texas Rangers as the player to be named later in an earlier trade for Brett Nicholas.[3] Clase was assigned to the Spokane Indians of the Class A Short Season Northwest League, and finished the 2018 season after going 1–1 with a 0.64 ERA, 27 strikeouts, and 12 saves in 28+1⁄3 innings.[2] Clase was assigned to the Down East Wood Ducks of the Class A-Advanced Carolina League to open the 2019 season.[4] He appeared in 6 games for them, going 2–0 with a 0.00 ERA, 1 save, and 11 strikeouts in 7 innings.[2] On April 23, he was promoted to the Frisco RoughRiders of the Double-A Texas League, and went 1–2 with a 3.35 ERA and 39 strikeouts over 37+2⁄3 innings.[5][2]

On August 2, 2019, the Rangers selected Clase's contract and promoted him to the MLB.[6][7] He made his MLB debut on August 4, pitching 1+2⁄3 scoreless innings.[8] Clase produced a 2–3 record with a 2.31 ERA and 21 strikeouts over 23+1⁄3 innings in 2019.[9] His cutter was on average the fastest in MLB, at 99.2 miles per hour (159.6 km/h).[10]

Cleveland Indians / Guardians[edit]

On December 15, 2019, the Rangers traded Clase and Delino DeShields Jr. to the Cleveland Indians in exchange for Corey Kluber and cash considerations.[11] Clase was suspended for 80 games on May 1, 2020, after testing positive for Boldenone, a banned PED.[12] Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the shortening of the 2020 Major League Baseball season to 60 games, Clase's suspension was lifted at the conclusion of the shortened 2020 season.[citation needed]

Clase returned to the Indians' bullpen for the 2021 season. After converting all six save opportunities in August and holding opposing batters to an .095 average, he was named AL Reliever of the Month.[13]

On April 2, 2022, Clase agreed to a five-year $20 million extension with the Cleveland Guardians.

I don’t think any team sees Eloy as acceptable on defense any more, they can all see the injuries (remember the series where Cleveland turned every ball hit to LF into a double?) and Eloy is really bloody expensive soon. His option years are nearly $20 million. There is a very good chance those aren’t picked up, just takes one more injury:

He can’t play RF, their whole team rakes vs. LHP. $25M bench (Pollock, Grandal, Leury) is a very expensive bench, Pollock the weakest in terms of reserve value.

You’re paying him regardless. He’s a major league player and quite useful on a roster full of dudes that can’t stay healthy. There is O% chance he is DFAd, and it would be a god awful move.

You mean $36 million.

Pollock will be $12-13 depending on final number of at-bats, Grandal $18.25, Leury $6.5 million.
