And it isn’t like the Texans were some loaded team. Some like excuses, but elite qbs make everyone around them better. I don’t think Justin makes anyone better - but I do admit he has elite physical attributes. This is exactly the mindset we should have. Bears fans need to look closely at what a legitimate, perhaps generational QB looks like and demand that for themselves. Don’t be content with mediocrity. What I love about Stroud’s situation is it exposes several uncomfortable questions. For one, who was involved with scouting and ultimately making the decision that Stroud was not a better choice than Fields? Someone, at some point, had to say - “Yeah we think Fields is better. Stick with him.” I hope everyone involved (Poles, Warren, scouting dept.) have sharpened their evaluation process and hopefully have learned from this mistake. We can’t make it again. If they decide to keep Fields, well then they’ve given us the assurance he is better than every 1st/2nd round QB coming out of the draft. Surely they can’t be wrong two years in a row, right guys!? The only caveat, is that QB in this draft? If they think he is, they need to take him. If not, trade down and compile draft capital to trade up in later drafts to find one. But I do think the popular mocks of Williams / Odunze at 1 and 10 are intoxicating . This may as well be what they thought for the last draft, when the Bears didn’t believe Stroud would be who he is. That is exactly what they pay people to do - analyze stats, scout players, and compile information to come up with a decision. Carolina apparently wanted Stroud, but the owner overruled the decision. What is our excuse? If I recall correctly, there were a lot of questions on whether CJ was even worth the #2 pick. So we passed up on Young, which I'm happy with. Would I rather have CJ? Yes, but that wasn't the choice. I keep hearing Getsy is no good and has to go. I see all the awful calls, calling the same play back to back, running out of the shotgun with less than a yard to go, the team looking lost after the first scripted drive, just the same crap over and over. I wonder if Getsy's this awful at playcalling, is he any better coaching players up? I remember hearing multiple times that the focus was on defense and not turning the ball over. I even recall at the beginning of last year some pretty awful turnovers, Fields said he promised he would never make that mistake again. Then I wonder, are they driving it in to him to not take risks, not make turnovers? And so we're sitting back and seeing open receivers and his hesitation. He didn't have this hesitation when he first got here. Is he bad, or has this been drilled into him? Who knows, Either way, I'm not sure the current Fields is the future of this team, so we'll see if they make the right choice going forward. After the panthers traded for #1 Stroud became the favorite in the betting markets. Young retook that closer to the draft, but even day of there was heat about Levi’s/Richardson at 1. People thought Reich preferred bigger QBs, and Young’s height was a big deal. Bears brass also aren’t supposed to just take consensus picks as their options, so yes, they did pass on Stroud.
