But man…cheaper than 150-180 for Blake Frickin Snell.  Whoof

I remember many skeptics about the Quintana return when he was flirting with a mid 4's ERA for most of his trade season and only his FIP looked fairly decent.

But that track record and left-handedness and durability.

Cease misses bat and not starts, that's incredibly incredibly valuable to any playoff contender, until he gets hurt.

Interestingly, the one area of commonality with both Snell and Cease is the amount of pitches they throw and their total number of innings averaged per start, usually out in the 5th and pulled before the end of the 6th.

Other than Kopech and health Santos....on the 2024 MLB roster, who else do the White Sox have projected that another team would actually WANT (Robert and Cease assumed, obviously)?

Maybe maybe maybe a LHR will emerge at some point.

Maybe Crochet and just limited to relief work...no other team at this point would be trying to stretch him out as a starter with his remaining years of control.

They’re probably out of money thanks to the 15-20 million they’ve wasted on junk already.

Their payroll is like 60M+ below last years opening day payroll. They’re not out of money. Jerry just doesn’t wanna spend it.

But lots of walks and struggling to get through 5 innings isn’t what contenders are looking for.

The other thing is he will be going to a real division with teams that actually have ML offenses.

Geez. I hope Getz doesn’t panic as quickly as this board does.

I doubt Getz panics about anything.  He was gifted with a GM job and apparently doesn’t even have to win anytime soon, judging by the roster he has put together for 2024.  He cut payroll and went dumpster diving in free agency, which is good enough for Jerry.

I am genuinely curious who is going to give Snell substantially more than this type of money at this point in the offseason.

Is he willing to go a 1 year route if the Yankees sign someone else?

I think the Giants could.  Maybe more years and less AAV. 6/165-170?

But with Cease, you are giving up a lot of potential cheap years that bring huge surplus value. That is costly to give up too.

Yes, assuming that the prospects a team gives up actually pan out to be anywhere near as good as Snell or Cease.  That’s not always a given, as Sox fans have seen from the return on the Sale trade.  Those two sure-thing prospects turned into busts pretty quickly.

Sure but a GM giving up those players won’t know that so part of their equation is 2 years of Cease vs 12-24 cheap years(depends on how many players are being dealt) of these players.

And Cease is just a guy that has had consistency issues while playing in one of the worst divisions in pro sports. The stuff is there. The upside is there. The durability is there. But the results are meh and between that and only having 2 more years left, the value just isn’t what WS fans want and hope for it to be.

Whelp, guess we'll have to settle for giga-prospect Nicky Ortiz

Imagine acquiring both Ortiz and Madrigal to team with Lopez.  Sox fans would be slap-happy.

An infield of Vaughn, Lopez, Ortiz, and Madrigal would put up 25 homers combined, maybe 30 if they were lucky.  🤣

You are describing Blake Snell who the Yankees just offered a 150mil contract, and will eventually land close to 200mil.

And acting like Cease can’t handle non-AL Central offenses is quite ignorant. If you’ve never really watched him pitch, just say it. But his stuff plays against any MLB offense.

Now can I say that I didn’t trust Spencer Jones at all in the Sox system?

You could say that with or without the Stroman news.  The Sox should look to make all of the prospects they acquire PTBNLs, so they have more time in the other team’s farm system and less time in theirs.
