  • So his opinion is different than the echo chamber on here? Oh the horror.

  • I would not want to hire anyone dumb enough to take on this job.

We’re talking about Robin Ventura, who didn’t even want to be a manager. Rick Renteria, who was never a serious long term guy. An 80 year old Tony LaRussa who had no business whatsoever being manager. And Pedro Grifol who was flat out bad at his job. None of those guys fit the bill of an up and comer.

It’s not like we’re bringing in blue chips who all see their futures go down the drain when they put on the Sox hat. These are trash hires.

So, given the hiring history, do you have faith in the White Sox organization to make a managerial hire of a true 'up and comer' then? Because sometimes, you just are who you are, with respect to a bad organization.

Gotta hire someone.

At least we aren’t the Yankee’s tonight. That was one of the most embarrassing games I’ve seen in my entire life… and we all know there’s a wealth of poop to draw from.

Well, here we are and Sizemore is in the final four.

so, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Wasn't Tony the last manager to achieve success at the MLB level after leaving Chicago? That's a long time ago.

Buzz kill if Nevin gets hired.

I survived the 2024 White Sox, I guess I could get through 1 year or a 1 1/2 years of Nevin until he is canned.

Have you not been a Sox fan long?

Remember when they hired Robin Ventura? They had to convince him to become a manager. Then when La Russa was hired there wasn't even any actual searching involved. JR just hired his guy.

No, I have no faith at all in them making the right hire. This is the same organization whose owner hired his 80 year old buddy to make up for a mistake from 30+ years ago when they were entering their contention window. That's not a serious organization.

That's too small of a sample size.

Add in every other hire since Ozzie and then it's not only statistically valid, but a harbinger of doom.

There are 28 baseball franchises who would trade spots with the Yankees.  I wish that were the Sox, even if we got swept by the Dodgers.

I’m not sure how anyone could be capable of experiencing a buzz related to the white sox at this point. No point of gnashing teeth over it. Either they make yet another shitty choice or maybe they don’t, we’ll just have to see

Now that you put it that way let me rethink this over.  Yep, still a buzz kill if Nevin gets hired. :)

Albernaz and Venable are probably asking for more than the Sox are willing to spend at this point

Hiring Nevin would just be another awful mistake.

Sox should offer Venable whatever to get him here, but we know Jerry won't do that.

Which leaves Grady.  Familiarity with the team, cheapest option, I think this will likely happen with Grady coming back.

The Sox are not contending for a Wild Card for another 2 years (AT THE BEST).  The Manager needs to be someone in the dugout with a voice and brain who will develop the next wave of talent.  I believe it will be Sizemore as well as he seems to resonate with a big league clubhouse pretty well... in addition to being the cheapest of the bunch...

Was there buzz about this hire that I missed?

Edit - I get what you're saying, but it's hard to kill expectations when expecting them to make the worst choice amongst all of the shitty options. It's more of a resigned acceptance.

Grady out of the running per Bob

Edit: Albernaz is the third name if you don’t wanna click the link.

Nevin is uninspiring because he has lost some ML games already, and is a retread.. but is there any solid reasoning behind why he's some awful choice? He's not Tony LaRussa, he has worked for Minasian and has had experiences Tony hasnt..

Probably knows well that FOs can control the mgr's choices, and will be influencing him. After working in LAA. And this is a good thing to be ready for

If Grady is indeed out, I wonder if the Sox would want to keep him on the staff in some capacity.

I’m sure they do. He is under contract through next season.

Did anyone think there is no right hire?

What is there to manage other than having to come up with some BS for the post game.  Grifol was bad at that.

There is a lot more potential for this team to be worse next year.  Who can't wait for Getz to get another "Vargas" haul.

Then the forced too soon prospects will be busts because there is no talented coaching.

Then I can't wait for Schulz to be the next "Vargas" haul.

The Sox now have a tarnished reputation on planet earth.  You need more clueless people like Grifol not really knowing what they are getting into.

Then you have AJ and Ozzie thinking they could manage the modern player.

If you are into career suicide please apply.

Because he does not believe in analytics and is a meathead that is being pushed by TLR.  There is no rationale reason for him to be considered and shows how obtuse the organization is.

It is going to be Nevin.  We can all feel it.  Rather have Sizemore, nothing has changed.
