The odds of that happening are about 1 in a million...unless the Padres sent Salas and deVrieze along with him, which they're obviously not going to do unless Preller is no longer the GM and a "cost cutter" like Getz is brought in to conduct a fire sale. For now, there's no pressing need to trade Manny Machado. The Padres definitely want Machado to go into the HoF in a Padres cap, not Orioles. And it's not like they have a huge number of Hall of Fame players in the history of that organization.

Funny how most of the players Getz acquired last year had to sign for half the money or less because they were so bad with the Sox last season. Getz sure knows how to pick em. February 13, 20251 yr "The Padres are in agreement with Nick Pivetta on a four-year, $55MM free agent deal that includes multiple opt-out chances, reports Jeff Passan of ESPN. It’s an extremely backloaded contract that pays Pivetta a $3MM signing bonus and a $1MM salary for the upcoming season, Passan adds. That’ll be followed by successive salaries of $19MM, $14MM, and $18MM. Pivetta can opt out after the second and third seasons. The deal is pending a physical." mlbtraderumors.com Really creative contract to make the payroll numbers work for 2025...could obviously backfire, but Premier knew he needed one more solid pitcher in the rotation if he wasn't going to trade Cease or King before OD. Guardians' bullpen just keeps getting stronger and stronger. Weren't Clase and Cade Smith basically the two most valuable relievers in the AL last year? And then they're adding to it? Non-roster options like Gavin Sheets and Mike Brosseau will get a shot, as will prospect Tirso Ornelas. “Those are good guys that we feel like have a chance to surprise a little bit,” Preller said of his DH options. “But we’re going to continue to look to see if we can add to the offense as well in the next couple weeks.” AJ Casavell, Padres' beat
