Off-Season Pass the Time Catch-All

Ha probably back to Sheets level RF defense too. And 2 RH guys screw up the platoon Getz set up so early in the off season. But it is interesting. Both teams end up with a little egg on their faces for their off season weirdness .

Egg on your face is trading a pitching prospect for an outfielder that has no role a year later.  I’d give props to Getz if he somehow managed to nab Canario at this point.  What was done earlier in the offseason is done.  But he has a chance to improve the team for the future.  Something guys like Tauchman and Slater don’t do.  If you have to eat a million or two by cutting Slater, who cares?

Well you were normal for a few posts but now it's back to your regularly scheduled programming.

You literally gave props to Getz a year ago for trading said pitching prospect for Fletcher.

That's what I thought. I remember him shitting all over Mena at the time.

I wasn’t upset they traded Mena.  But they apparently traded him for the wrong outfielder.  Josh Barfield told Getz to take back Fletcher instead of McCarthy and Getz listened.

The point is you were all excited about acquiring Fletcher and now are saying Getz should have egg on his face as a result of the trade not working out.  You are criticizing him for a move with the benefit of hindsight that you completely supported at the time of the transaction.  You can’t have it both ways.

You, meanwhile, were 100% spot on. There should be a lot of people apologizing for the shade that was being thrown at you in that thread.

No one here gets paid to be the Sox GM and choose the right players to trade for.  Getz and his team have a lot more access to data, scouting reports, etc. on these players than a fan does.  Most people thought Fletcher was capable of playing CF at the time of the trade and that a Robert trade would be the next domino to fall.  We also didn’t know at that time that Getz had the choice of either Fletcher or McCarthy.  That news came out later.  Instead, we found out that Fletcher was basically a corner outfielder with as much power as Madrigal.

In fairness, though, it's Getz's job to correctly evaluate players, not WhiteSox2023's job. One of the perks of being a fan is that we have the privilege of getting to loudly yell dumb opinions and be wrong about them.

Thanks…I normally try to be an optimist and am no doubt more often wrong than right, but so far my takes have held true in that thread.  Unfortunately I wish I was wrong on that one because it’d be a lot more fun having a RF we could pencil in for the next five years instead the 27 year old, AAAA OF we currently possess.

No doubt and it’s fine to objectively say Getz missed on a trade without saying he should have “egg on his face” like it was some sort of obvious stupid move when said poster was a fan of it at the time.  GMs should no doubt be held to a higher standard than a random message board poster, but it’s also not cool to use the benefit of hindsight to mock someone who you previously agreed with.

It’s kind of funny that a majority of that thread was like “THANK GOD THIS MEANS NO MORE SHEETS AND COLAS” and it really didn’t mean that at all

Well, half of that is true haha

I thought Fletcher was going to be playing CF because Getz was about to trade Robert for a haul.  That would have been nice.

Forgot about this lol but we'll see.

"The end of ESPN’s relationship with Major League Baseball is not limited to television.

ESPN Radio will no longer carry national Major League Baseball after this season, ending its 27-year run as the exclusive national radio parter of MLB. The last national MLB game that was not carried by ESPN Radio was Game 7 of the 1997 World Series, which was broadcast by CBS Radio.

While ESPN Radio does not attract as much attention as the flagship ESPN TV network, the radio contract has given the company a presence at every World Series and MLB All-Star Game dating back to 1998."

Speaking of Sheets...

Rooting for him, seemed like a good guy.

Yankees are going to allow well-groomed beards.

You know what deal probably makes sense for both teams? Mike Tauchman for Alexander Canario. Now that would be fascinating.

Our hopes have likely been dashed…
