I think this is the case with most of the White Sox's arms. Some of them may fall apart and wind up bullpen arms, but a good first half could turn some of them into guys who you decide whether they're rotation pieces or possible trade bait. If Davis Martin were to have a good first half I don't see why you wouldn't listen to offers on him, for example.

Doesn't he still have six years of control?  Unless someone blows you away for no good reason, there isn't much of a point to trading him yet.

I fully expect Davis Martin traded if he has a strong first half.

No reason to trade Cannon now, agreed, especially when the White Sox need starting pitchers to get through the season

He could be a nice workhorse backend #4/5 starter with his profile

There is if you're trying to give someone reason to absorb some of Beni's salary, unfortunately.

Of course. Nobody would take the gamble of treating Cannon like an established starter, but of the bunch, Cannon has the highest floor, and sure looks like a stable innings-eater. Like Balta implies, Schultz could move somebody out of the rotation as soon as June.

If he qualified, he'd have ranked third from the bottom in k-rate among starters. I wouldn't get too carried away on cannon being a reliable innings eater yet.

Perused SOSH this morning for a good half hour. On paper we got a fair deal and perhaps even an overpay according to some pretty tuned in Red Sox fans. This is a baby step towards the next good Sox team. There is much that needs to happen before that, but we have cleared one bar.

That makes sense.  He’ll be 28 soon and might not fit the Sox window but would be desirable to a contender if he keeps doing what he does.  Cannon fits the Sox window.

I read the same thread.  General consensus was it was a good trade for both teams as they know they will lock Crochet up long-term.  But many stated that it was a lot to give up for him.  But it was the old adage — you have to give up something to get something.

Rounds aren't important in the MLB draft.. He was an underslot 4th rounder. So his value was much less than that.

That first article mentioned the trade will help the Sox 2028 lineup? Geez it's always 'wait til 3-4 years from now' with our White Sox. Those are three brutal winters to survive before the team sniffs .500? Yikes.

2026 will be your first taste of what can be possible with all of these changes (both players and coaching/development), and 2027 is when you'd hope you start to actually feel good about the team out there and what they are capable of.
