Crochet Traded to Boston

“There are reasons Montgomery went 12th in the draft. The health thing is a bit of a concern.”

Did Montgomery have any health issues other than the broken ankle he sustained with an awkward slide home against Oregon?  He was talked about being drafted as high as in the top four.  The draft was right after his broken ankle and he was still drafted 12th.  Weird thing to say.

Sounds like a Red Sox fan desperately trying to cope.

  • I would say I’m satisfied…not over or underwhelmed.  It’s nice not having to worry about Crochet’s elbow exploding

  • Disappointed they didn't include Benintendi though, the sox saving money was a big issue for me.

  • Morosi saying Boston caved today to include Teel AND Montgomery

Teel is a great catching prospect, but I am not sure I see huge offensive upside beyond him being a solid regular at the position. That is still a valuable player, but I am not sure he will ever be a star. He should start the year in AAA and would probably benefit from a full season there to work on hitting and defense.

Montgomery has a high ceiling, but the ankle injury absolutely gives some cause for concern. Hopefully he is fully healthy and gets off to a strong start in the lower minors in 2025.

Meidroth looks like a utility player/bench bat at the next level who could carve out a role. The fringy defense, speed and lack of pop probably prevent him from profiling as a regular, but you never know?

Gonzalez is a reliever at the next level, but there's some upside there if his control can improve. Sox may continue to try him as a starting pitcher considering he was better in the second half of 2024.

Are you a lawyer?

Where do our 4 guys play in 2025?

Maybe not in terms of rankings at the time, but that might be the very best MiLB system in recent memory in terms of actual big league production over time...

I agree, the injury has negatively impacted his prospect ranking. They're both pretty good though.

the next Moncada

Assuming guys like Colson and Quero don’t crack the opening day roster, what will our AAA lineup look like to start the year?

EDIT: And what level does B. Montgomery start at?

All but Montgomery should be in Charlotte or Birmingham at the very least...

Teel, Meidroth and Gonzalez will likely all see time at the big league level in 2025.  Teel was seen as pushing Wong for playing time in Boston as early as this year.  Meidroth is closer to a finished product but with major concerns about his power/XBH upside.

Montgomery will likely start out in Kannapolis (Low A) and then could move to Winston-Salem and possibly Birmingham by the end of the year, it all depends on his ankle injury recovery.

I’d like to see Meidroth up just to see what he can do. Teel and Gonzalez at AAA but not for long. Montgomery- maybe W-S to start and flies through to AAA by the end?

That Boston is a s%*# hole and Chicago is a world class city?

Interesting thought since they aren't playing in either one of the cities, yet. I'm not certain how much time you've spent in Boston, not while I agree Chicago is great, I've always enjoyed my time in Boston. But I've always enjoyed saltwater harbors.

People have been trying to imagine a rotation with Crochet, Smith, and Schultz, but if we think of it this way - a rotation with Smith and Schultz as the actual team stars, combined with a lineup that at least has several good players in it rather than a complete black hole 1-9, is at least a start. You actually have to turn those pitchers into 5 WAR+ lefties and many other spots matter, but at least if you turn these guys into big league regulars, its a start.

known as big  trade league trade pieces

Sounds like son of Sam horn is very upset about giving up on that prime C and OF Montgomery.  Great trade

I was just in Boston back in September. Ended up seeing a White Sox Red Sox game and it was a blast. People were cool too.

Probably already mentioned, but the two Red Sox series are back to back weekends in April.

Boston can’t compare Chicago is a world class city with the world’s best skyline plus a major global financial foothold with the futures market.  I’ll take Chicago any day.  We know how r word those Boston fans are.  Just ask Ken Griffey jr

Boston's a slightly cleaner, massively more racist version of Philly.

The irony is so many players wind up in the suburbs

Teel is reported to be #4 Red Sox prospect.  Getz could not extract any pf the Red Sox top 3 prospects, but rather got another 3 lower prospects in addition to Teel.will see how the return pans out.  Getz returns track record has not been good, so keep your fingers crossed.

This isn't nearly as true as it used to be.

Chicago has the second number of skyscrapers in the US after NYC with a beautiful skyline. However having the best skyline in the world will need to compare with other waterfront cities such as NYC, Miami, Hong Kong, Rio, Cape Town, San Francisco, Seattle,  amongst others. IMO.

How tall are they?  I’ll take Chicago any day.  I’ll take the likes of China’s Chicago in Shanghai, and Perth Australia any day over cape no town.  As far as economics go, Chicago is on tier with London and Tokyo.  Lots of farmers in the Midwest and they like to bet on the future of their crops,
