  • You'll never see me complain about minor league deals, but FFS, play the fringe young controllable talent at the big league level.

Sosa and Vargas both should get long looks because they are out of options. You can't send them down unless they clear waivers .

  • I'm not upset about Drury, but a lot has to go right to even get anything for him as a flip, and really, at this point, shouldn't the younger guys be getting the opportunity? I have the feeling, he's

Absolutely horrible last year but hit 26 HRs in 2023. Sure, why not?

Seems a lingering hamstring issue could've contributed to the drury down year. I actually really like this. We have a few decent bounceback candidates which could be fun to watch.

Wow with 26 HR pop he's automatically our best HR guy. He will start at 3B baby.

And Tristan Gray hit 19 hrs in minors last year. I think both guys will make the big league club.

Agreed. Assuming Drury has a great spring and makes the team, you'd want to see him maybe play every day and see if he can recapture his power stroke to try to trade him later. I guess the DH spot is open but I am having trouble seeing where everyone else would play. Ramos I guess would be ticketed for AAA. Vargas? Is he at 3B? Seems like Rojas would be the primary starter at 3B. Vargas could play OF, but if you AB in LF and the platoon in RF. Idk, think I'm with you and would rather play the kids.

I remember when I wanted to trade for/sign Drury at 2B.

Remember some decent years for Drury.  Ten years he has appeared in MLB.  Made over 22 million.  Career WAR 2.0!

Gray is 27.  Looks like last couple of years has played a fair amount of SS......

I didn't know Pinch Hitter was a position?

We knew these were coming at some point. See if they can show something in spring training.

I think a lot of guys will just be moving all around the diamond.

If you told me Geoff Blum played for the Sox outside of that one at-bat, I'm not sure I'd believe you, so yes, yes it is.

I've got a baseball card where the player position is listed as pinch runner. Anyone remember who?

I hope Drury starts at third. He's the unknown. I know those other guys mentioned are blah. This guy could be like Burger, intriguing.

Exactly.  Even if you get a fluke first half from Drury, he isn’t netting you much in a trade.  This just takes at bats away from a young guy.  Pointless.

This is just more of Kenny and Hahn and hoping for lightning in a bottle from a scrub veteran.  At least they cost nothing, but it’s embarrassing at this point.

All the ex Padres...

3.1 and 2.7 fWAR before falling off the early 30s cliff last season.

Horrible contract that went the wrong way for LAA.

Yeah, stock up at AAA by all means, but they better let the kids play.

I actually thought that last year one of the (many) problems was they had so many NRIs in camp for spring training that the guys who made the roster didn’t get enough actual game work in the spring.

So the plan is to play Rojas, Drury, Tauchman/Slater in order to accomplish what exactly?

Tauchman and Slater as a RF platoon isn’t bad, although it’s darn confusing that Getz would trade for a RF, get at least a tiny bit of hope from his defense, and block them.

Drury - he’s on a minor league deal. These weak prospects in the system are likely to shuffle up and down a few times, and some of them (Monty) have legit injury worries. It maybe steals some spring training time, but he might even be released by May.

Rojas is clearly there as the starting 2b to provide wins and valuable veteran leadership, while also ensuring that Sosa and Meidroth are in other teams soon enough.
