They were face of the organization stars and would have lent credibility to the organization. AJ Hinch or Renteria would not have kept the ship sailing in the right direction. Maybe they wouldn’t have been as embarrassing as LaRussa, sure, but these young guys with extensions would have still injured themselves under different managers. Tony sucked the life out of the club and the fan base.

If you mean Roger Clemens that is a good point (assuming you don't mind the steroid accusations). After JR signed Albert Belle the Hendricks brothers, Clemens' agents, reached out to the Sox and said he was interested in signing with them. Then G.M. Ron Schueler was quoted as saying "Roger Clemens is over the hill..." and signed Jamie Navarro instead. Ooops...

And Clemens won the Cy Young award the next two years and Navarro was the worst pitcher in baseball. I mind the steroid accusation but everyone was using then. The Sox signed Canseco and Manny Ramirez for crying out loud.

Not that anybody seems to care about it.

June 25, 2025Jun 25 Hard to get fired up over the possibility of a trade as it seems very unlikely that Sox receive anything noteworthy in return and I have the bold opinion that it likely makes the Sox even harder to watch for the near term.
June 25, 2025Jun 25 My cousin just sent me a text that according to his source (it's a decent one) that Robert is gone and only a matter of time. I would assume it's for a trade. Appears to just be wild coincidental timing on the text and injury. Edited June 25, 2025Jun 25 by JoeCredeYes more info

I don’t see how getting rid of the current version of Robert could make the Sox even harder to watch in the near term. He’s a huge part of the suckage. Although I do agree that the return for him will be…
