Colson Montgomery to AZ Complex

Recommended Posts

This is a guy who completely lost his confidence. He's got it back right now, but i'm

not sure if facing quality MLB pitching so soon is the right call. Stay healthy for a month.

Continue to hit. Maybe a mid August call up if all goes well.

That's my thought. It's not like he has a finite number of hits to his name, and he's using them all up in the minor leagues. It's good for him to play out of the spotlight of the bigs and learn the game. Hell, every player comes up, boots a couple of balls, and suddenly he has "poor baseball IQ", or "development didn't prepare him for the majors". It's 2 weeks to the All-Star Game/draft, then 2 more weeks to the trade deadline. I'd be good with him coming up Aug 1 or Sept 1. Preserve his rookie status so he can win AL ROY, AL MVP and World Series MVP next year.

I’m curious what he’s hitting, not just that he’s hitting. What adjustments did he make to the pitchers

Not sure how deep you want to dig in, but this is from today. An easier way to go game by game is here though, can click on the individual games and see what you're looking for.

I'm impressed, Harold.

If  they bring Colson up soon, what should the infield look like, Meidroth is doing a great job at Shortstop so do they put Montgomery at third or maybe Meidroth moves over to second, Montgomery at SS and Sosa 3B with Vargas the everyday guy at 1B.

I'm surprised Colson hasn't had any real action at third. So, either they want to keep him at short, or they have no plans to bring him up until late Sept. at the earliest.

Ozzie loves Meidroth the player, but I would be interested in where he thinks his best position is SS or 2nd.

Meidroth being an above average shortstop makes him so much more valuable. If Boston knew that about him, I wonder if they include him in the trade for Crochet.

If Colson comes up, I’ll let him start at SS but would play him at 3B, just to give him another position under his belt but the infield will probably look like

1B - Sosa

2B - Meidroth

SS - Colson

3B - Vargas

Its probably its strongest with

1B -Vargas

2B - Sosa

SS - Meidroth

3B - Colson

I don’t want Sosa at first, he botched a few plays there earlier in the year, I like your strongest infield scenario.

I'm not really picking on your post, and I know I'm combining commenters, here, but I just can't reconcile the aversion to having a guy like Sosa "figure it out" at 1B, and the calls for Colson and Baldwin to "figure it out" in the bigs. Rookies make mistakes.

Sosa can't play 3B and he isn't a 1B either. He needs to just stay at 2B for now. We're kinda in a pickle here. I really don't want to give up on Sosa too soon he's got too much upside as a bat to just throw into a trade because of a perceived need to get Colson in the lineup this year.

I really don't have a strong opinion on what to do other than don't force anything.

Exactly. This is what "figuring it out" looks like. Call up Brooks and Colson.

I'm fine with Baldwin.  Colson shouldn't be up before September.  Brooks has nothing to prove at AAA.  Colson needs to prove it for more than 4 games (or four weeks without me being too much of a smartass).

Max-out Vargas' value at 3B. Hes been unexpectedly great there regardless.

Meidroth has been fine at SS but I believe he's publicly said he prefers 2B and thats where his future is anyways. It's good he can play both though.

Baldwin's best value will be to play 6 positions, even if poorly, and spell anyone as needed. Should be plenty of ABs.

Play Colson at SS until its clear he's not that.

Sosa will have to play 1B and spell 2B when he can but his development takes backseat to Varhas, Colson and Chase.

What about Amaya? He's raking.

Yeah if you don’t want to call up Colson, at least call up someone better than Crapa.

Corey Julks is also deserving of a call up and probably will be once they move a couple OFs.
