Well, if Vargas makes a swing change and it works, and Montgomery makes a swing change and it works, then we know the Sox are trying to help players, and they’re seeing some success. Seems likely that either Vaughn has been making changes and they’re not working, or he won’t make them.

Then why is he still with the major league club if he won't listen?

I don’t know. He should be in AAA working things out, with Elko getting a shot to see what he can do. Sox are probably banking on Vaughn still hitting the ball hard, though I feel like we’re past the point of “bad luck” after so many years of this.

the bad luck thing is way overplayed. his wxOBA is now .316. Even if you take that at face value and credit him for it that's still like a 1 WAR player at best. He stinks. He has zero upside. He's one of the worst athletes in MLB and he can't hit.

This is the stuff I am talking about.  No matter what happens, Vaughn starts essentially every day, somewhere in the middle of the line up.  If he was uncoachable and/or lazy, why spend good money to bring him back?  Why keep him on the major league roster after the fact?  Give him a few days off.  Give him a trip to AAA.  Give him a phantom IL trip.  Do something different to get his attention.  But running him out 5 days a week in the middle of the line up at 1B is the same thing we have done with him for years now, with no results.

My patience is running out with Vaughn, I thought maybe this was the year he puts it altogether and becomes the hitter I thought he would be when he was drafted, doesn’t look like it’s going to happen. Realistically, what could we get for him?
