I know he's got some struggles coming, and I'm not saying that Colson is going to be as good as the people I'm about to mention, I'm just making a statement about how much a big bat can make a different.

But Colson, the way he's been swinging the bat and driving in runs with power since the all-star game, that must be what it's like to have a Judge or Ontani on your team all year long.

Colson's big bat has made this Sox team so much better in these two weeks. It really shows, again like Judge or Ontani, how just one huge bat in the lineup can completely change a team.

He has freakish bat speed. 82.8 MPH on the lineout. Only 79.7 on the HR. To put that in perspective, only last year one player (Stanton, 80.4) averaged bat speed over 78. Oneil Cruz was 77.7 was 2nd.

So far for his career Colson is over 77 mph after tonight's game. That would have been good enough for 3rd best last year, ahead of guys like Judge, Ohtani and others.

He might not stay healthy, he might not hit for much average, but he has more talent in his body than any prospect we've seen lately. He is the definition of toolsy. Robert is probably the last guy with this sort of athletic profile.

Colson has looked amazing. Absolutely love to see it. Was not at all expecting him to look this comfortable against big league pitching. Sox deserve alot of credit for fixing him with their little AZ vacation earlier this season.

this is very exciting. the young kids are showing promise and I truly believe Venable is getting them to where they need to be. still putrid every 3-4 days...but the rest of the time they look like a legit baseball team. Let's see where Colson keeps taking this!

Really wasn't a horrible pitch imo. It was middle in and to a LHB with that release a lot of guys are thinking it's going to hit them out of his hand. Colson really pulled his hands in nicely to keep it fair.

Colson gets good swings against lefties and that is really telling.

Thank you proving me wrong to doubt you. I did wish that you would so this is awesome haha

Based on his EVs so far he had to have been battling some sort of injury last season and this spring. There's no way he was swinging freely like he is now. You don't go from zero to 100mph like that just based on some instruction week down in AZ imo. If that was the case everybody would be doing it.

Maybe the Sox hired a hypnotist to convince him that he's been traded to the Brewers?

I thought he had/has a problem with back spasms. That would affect everything from his batting to his fielding, Hopefully the issue is resolved now, but back issues have a nasty habit of recurring.

The Fegan article made it sound like the AZ trip/break was largely about a mental reset.

Watching the Sox prospects show, he seems like a kid that is very emotional about things.  This isn’t a bad thing, just that he seems to take failure harder than some might.

I got the impression that Sox management probably had the plan to change some things physically but ultimately decided it wasn't necessary or not the best way forward.

Konerko was that way and had to mature early in his career to not let at bats carry over in a negative fashion.

Sounds a lot like Quentin Konerko Beckham...has Keith Law commented yet or still not a believer?

I received the autographed Colson Montgomery ball I won through the White Sox official Twitter account.  I’m too inept to figure out how to get a picture small enough to put on here.  🤷🤦

Ah. So basically, the light went on for maturity *reasons* which have less to do with special development work or repairs. I just don’t believe teams deserve as much credit or blame that they get. Teams that are good at signing talent get  lauded for their developmental ability. But really they are just signing better ballplayers

Keith Law still hates the White Sox

Aaron C.: I don’t want you to name names because that’s all that anyone will focus on, but in all the years you’ve been doing this, has there ever been the son of an MLB player drafted in, say, the top 5 rounds who might otherwise not even be a top 10 round guy is not for his last name?
Keith Law: Oh yes. Tony Gwynn Jr. comes to mind. Kenny Williams’ son might be the most egregious case.

Guest: What are your thoughts on the recent moves of sending Colson Montgomery and Elijah Green to the complex to work on their swing mechanics? Should more teams be doing this? Seems like every org has guys who would benefit more from a month or so of supervised development instead of trying to stay afloat at an affiliate?
Keith Law: Right move for Montgomery even if it hasn’t helped.
