It’s a wild thing to say, that’s like telling a beautiful woman her elbows are too pointy. What’s him being slow got to do with ‘hustle’? One probably might prefer 1.300 OPS to, I dunno, Duke Ellis.
It’s also never gonna happen, it’s why I think he won’t last at SS (especially as he gets a bit older), but looks like a perfect third baseman with his arm strength. From Pipeline: Montgomery exhibits below-average speed out of the batter's box but is an average runner once he gets going, albeit not much of a threat to steal. He moves well at shortstop, making plays with a quick first step, good agility for his size, a fine internal clock and solid arm strength.

He lolligags. It’s not his speed, it’s his hustle. Rookie just called up, bust your ass out of the box.

I think this is only in your imagination. He isn’t lolligagging. I’m not sure he’s even had an opportunity to lolligag, ie beating out an infield hit. He does look really fuckin slow though getting started, like a freight train.

he’s busting his ass at short, man. That’s something more to look at, I think. His offense has been pristine so far if you ask me. He’s super impressed me beyond my expectations, and I’m a homer.

decent game tonight. he's playing a very good SS. How come we never really got a scouting report on that at charlotte? sorta odd imo. you'd think someone would have seen him and saw him more than holding his own. maybe the sox decided to walk quietly here which if so not bad -- he's clearly not overwhelmed defensively. If anything he plays up to the speed at the MLB level.

One need for every team at the deadline...

White Sox: Shortstop
This choice seems a bit interesting with Colson Montgomery, the No. 5 White Sox prospect per MLB Pipeline, making his triumphant debut at shortstop this past weekend in Colorado, and with rookie Chase Meidroth already having played 56 Major League games at the spot. There also are talented options such as Caleb Bonemer (No. 9 White Sox prospect) within the system. But general manager Chris Getz has talked about strength up the middle for his developing team and the best athletes often are at the shortstop position. Overall, the White Sox are looking for young talent to continue strengthening their core. -- Scott Merkin

I mean never a bad position to add, but I would have put outfield as I don't see a single long term starter in our org there.

Colson has looked good so far.  His offensive stats will come back to earth after having a great series in Colorado.  He still doesn't look overwhelmed at the plate, which is good.  HIs defense has been better than expected.  The diving stop that saved a hit last night was great, and would have been better if Meidroth could have turned the DP.  I think the Sox should and probably will stick with him at SS for the rest of the season, see what he's got.

👀

(Cags will be fine and Colson won't stay on a 10 WAR pace, it's just funny considering their respective AAA numbers)

Kurtz got off to a REALLY slow start and now he's catching teammate Jacob Wilson for RoY...

Montgomery is such a natural hitter. He's one of those guys who does better in the majors than the minors. Good thing nobody gave up on him for minor league stinkage.

He can flat out hit the baseball where they ain't. Including over the fence. He and Meidroth and Quero should be around a long time.

The good ones hit mistakes. But boy, that was a mistake.

Really wasn't a horrible pitch imo. It was middle in and to a LHB with that release a lot of guys are thinking it's going to hit them out of his hand. Colson really pulled his hands in nicely to keep it fair.
