Sox sign Fedde (2026)

Featured Replies

Fedde better come out of the gate running or he will lose that rotation slot fairly quickly.  Just a fuckton of young arms who will be pushing for starts soon enough.

Probably like a 70s porn star with that mustache.

  • This doesn’t make any sense. One reason why St. Louis is where they are is their lack of pitching development. Brian Bannister fixed Fedde the first time. He’s probably the guy most likely to do it ag

Will be interesting to see the price here.  My guess is it will be for about $1.5M with some incentives.  Anything over $2.5M would be insane to me.

100%

Is this an MLB deal?  Not seeing any clear reporting.  Hoping for an MiLB deal to get him to camp and hold another roster spot.

No risk. What if he's good? I think the Sox are in a spot they think they can flirt with .500 and that means contention so they adding bodies.

I don't hate it. Depends on the dollar amount I guess. I can't imagine it's much. I think it's implied it's a MLB deal.

They’ll be able to use the 60-day when camp opens on … Wednesday?

@Y2Jimmy0 mentioned that they could start placing people on the 60-day tomorrow.

Smith in AA?

Yeah. I don’t think it matters where he pitches

Big league deal. They can clear 3 spots tomorrow with Thorpe, Bush and Berroa.

Are all three expected to go on the 60 day DL?  Based on that last update, feels like Berroa could be ready well before June.

I looked earlier. The earliest they could come back is May 25th (Memorial Day) if put on the 60-day (6 days in March, 30 in April, 24 in May).

Edit: my guess is Bush and Thorpe go on 60-day and they wait on Berroa until they need the spot.

FWIW, Giolito's underlying metrics had some flashing warning signs. FIP about a run higher than ERA and xERA about a run higher than the FIP. He didn't lose velo or anything but he wasn't striking out and generally things weren't trending better as the season went on.

Not a fan of this better be minor league deal only

Yeah, he us done by the end of June at the latest. Either he is pitching well and they trade him when the TJ crew is back. Or he is pitching poorly and they release him.

I have a friend that knows one of the trainers with the Red Sox. Mentioned Giolito’s medicals is so bad. Arm will not last a season. They red flagged him.

And he's already had 2 Tommy John Surgeries.

Sucks. I always liked Gio. Solid dude. Wish he could have had a more successful career. (I know it's not over yet but it feels like he's going to be living on 1 year prove it deals for the rest of his career).

think they've signed enough veteran 5th starter types.  Still have a lot of younger players they need to evaluate and make a decision on.

That’s the idea. Nobody’s getting blocked on this team.

Wouldn't shock me if it happened before the season starts.

you forget it's the White Sox

I like this move. Fedde is an arm that this FO (Bannister) has already had success with, they can probably get him back on track. They only need Fedde to last till the ASB or till when the younger arms are ready to get some starts in Chicago.

Depending on the money, which shouldn't be much, I don't have a problem with this.  His job will be to eat innings while the young guys have an opportunity to work their way up to the MLB club.  If he can be even 60% of what he was with the Sox in 2024, he'll be fine for what he's needed.

It's disappointing to hear about the possible (probable) arm issues with Giolito.  I was surprised at how well he pitched last year coming back from surgery, and I was expecting him to be signed by now.  The concern over his health makes sense now.

Yeah, can't be mad at that number

The exact number I was predicting.  $600k over the league minimum is nothing for a guy with a non zero chance of being a useful starter ( @SoxBlanco) who worst case scenario gives us a warm body to hold down the #5 spot until a young arm is ready for their shot.
