caulfield12
Czech Republic plays about as well as you can expect with pretty much everyone but T.Vavra having full time jobs back home. Manager is a neurologist. Have been to Ostrava. It's just across Polish border/Auschwitz-Buchenwald. This is the guy who got out Ohtani I think three years ago. Struck him out of three pitches. Shades of Shingo Takatsu. Minus the 90-92 fb. Escala got those two giant bags of candy after HBP in 2023...played at both Miami's, FL and OH. caulfield12
Leave it to the Japanese to have an elementary kids' field trip on a school day to come and cheer for Team Australia at Tokyo Dome. Ofc one kid was already dead asleep. Turned into a pitcher's battle. Escala, what the hell are you doing?

Interestingly, his top EVs in spring are all against 95mph+ He actually has the highest recorded EV of any White Sox batted ball so far (111.4), and it was against a 98mph heater

caulfield12
grand salami ohtani was way out on his front foot/off balance and still got enough of it just with arm strength
Autumn Dreamin
Mune started the rally with a walk and keeps it going with an RBI single as Japan bats around in the second. A walk, run scored, hit, and RBI in one inning can't be too common.

Probably throws him out with a clean play at second but not an easy one...guess they will just leave Yamamoto out there and hold him off for quarters/semi finals. "If a team is up by 15 or more runs after five innings or 10 or more runs after seven innings, the game will be called in favor of the leader. This will not carry on past pool play, however, and teams will have a chance to make a comeback." 8-0 now 10-0 craziness!! Ohtani two hits in the inning Taipei and Czechia both 0-2...comes down to Australia/Korea, unless Korea can pull off the biggest upset in WBC history playing without HaSeong Kim and Song (Padres). caulfield12
Ohtani a triple away from the cycle going into the Top of the 4th inning Mune grounded into a FO his last at bat Genda nailed him out with a two run single up the middle Yamamoto pulled after 2 2/3 but threw over fifty pitches so will sit at least four days Ohtani had a shot but leaping snare by 1B denied him for now 7 total bases... Jake
17 hours ago, chitownsportsfan said: Fair enough and I stand corrected. If he had the bone spur in 2024 hopefully that explains the velocity. There were games he wasn't even topping out over 91 iirc. To be fair, low fastball velo has always been part of the scouting report for Thorpe even though some had wondered if he had more in the tank. I don't know how far off his norms he was in terms of velocity. I do think it's reasonable to think that his poor command in MLB might have had to do with his elbow. Of course we'll get to find out more about what he can do before too long.
